Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/06/wwe-evolve-6182025.html
The Vanity Project come out. Smokes says we told you so and says they said they would run Evolve. Brad says they aren't ready for them and says they are Stand and Deliver main eventers.
Drake says Buddy Rogers was the first WWE champ and says Seth was the first NXT champ and he's now the first Evolve champ. He says you can boo all you want but you can't swipe left on the history projects. Brad says they have the best man, woman and tag team in the world. They says it's not bragging, it's just The Vanity Project.
Lince Dorado does a promo where he puts his mask on. He says The Project doesn't know when to shut their mouths. He says he will be the one who shuts it. He says he knows there's only one of him so he will need two amigos.
The High Ryze talk in the back. Wes Lee says he heard how Cappuccino Jones was the best talent and the next Wes Lee. He says he's shutting that down and says we will see the original is always better than the sequence.
Cappuccino Jones and Jack Cartwheel talk in the back. Jones says he's caffeinated and motivated and won't let the cup get cold. He says Wes has gotten too comfortable and has forgotten what it's like to be young and thirsty. He says he's sleeping on him and that's a dangerous thing to do. He says a fresh brew is on tonight.
Zayda Steel and Nikkita Lyons vs Masyn Holiday and Layla Diggs
Mas and LD dance together in the ring during their entrance.
Zay pushes LD down and walks on her back. LD sweeps her then cartwheels out of an arm throw. LD trips her and walks on her. Mas 2nd rope double axe handles Zay's arm. Zay pulls her down by the hair.
Mas wristlocks Lyons. Lyons reverses it then Mas armlocks her. Lyons catches a crossbody but LD dropkicks them over. LD flipping sentons Lyons for 2. Zay snapmares LD then basement dropkicks her. LD is whipped into the ropes but cartwheels to the apron.
LD slingshots in and spinning slams Zay. She then standing moonsaults her for 2. Zay takes a double shoulderblock and a double dancing elbow drop.
Mas shoulders over Zay, gets distracted and is hit from behind. Mas takes a codebreaker over the 2nd rope. Lyons hits leg kicks and forearms on Mas. Lyons then hits corner spears. Zay tags herself in by spanking Lyons for 2.
Zay boots her then tornado ddt's her. Lyons sleepers Mas. Lyons misses a corner spear and goes into the post. Zay misses a charge and LD tags in. LD shoulders over Zay then side kicks her. LD scissors kicks her then does a forward flipping cartwheel spear. LD butterfly suplexes her for 2.
Mas flips KD onto Zay. Mas standing splashes Zay. LD flying knees Lyons from behind. Chantal Monroe comes out. The faces are distraced and Mas is rolled up for 2. Monroe talks to LD on the apron. Lyons high kicks Mas from the outside and Zay pins Mas.
Thoughts: It was a decent match. Lyons showed some fire here and the faces were fine. I'm not sure where the stuff with Monroe is going but it doesn't feel like we saw the end of Zay and Lyons as a team.
We get a video on Troy Yearwood. He says he's the best athlete we will ever see. He said he likes to lift weights, read and write songs and poems. He reads a poem and says he's the most explosive athlete ever in the Performance Center. He says his favorite lift is dropping people on their backs. He promises we haven't seen anything like him. He says he will evolve and says to say goodbye to Troy Yearwood and hello to Jamar Hampton.
Thoughts: The name change is dumb. If they were gonna change his name, why not do it when he was on LFG? Were they not sure they wanted him or didn't want to pay the trademark office twice?
Natalya and Kali Armstrong talk in the back. Kali says she didn't need her help last week and Nat says she did. Kali says she didn't, that's why she's the first Evolve champ. Nat says you need to learn to swallow your pride sometimes as her and Nat have a match vs Zayda and Lyons next week.
It's Gal vs Jamar Hampton
WWE had trademarked a bunch of names recently and Jamar was the last one who we didn't see. I joked that it was going to be Mariah May's new name.
They lock up and JH backs him up in the corner. They lock up and test strength. Gal is losing it and tries to stomp his way out. Gal shoulders him over then side headlock takeovers him. JH slams and waistlock takedowns him. JH then does push-ups and an elbow drop on Gal.
JH atomic drops him and hits a ridiculously high dropkick for 2. JH gets slapped and fires up. JH is stuck on the ropes and Gal sweeps him down. Gal stomps the leg.
Gal wraps the leg around the ropes then hits shots to the gut. Gal spinning lariats him for 2. Gal does a choke + push-up pin then legdrops JH in the gut.
Gal ddt's the leg then single leg crabs him. JH hits shots to the gut and is kicked in the knee. Gal jumps at him and is caught with a german. JH overhead belly to belly suplexes him then hits a back body drop. Gal rolls him up for 2 then chops and forearms him. JH then hits an AA into body press and pins Gal.
Thoughts: I was surprised to see Gal lose here. It was a good Evolve debut for JH here. He's big, he can move and he's strong. He sold well here and he's gonna be one to keep an eye on going forward. I liked this.
Chuey Martinez interviews Marcus Mathers in the back. He says he wanted to be part of Evolve and can adapt to any style. He says he keeps fighting and doesn't give up. He says he's trying to get as many matches as possible. He sees his dream of main eventing Mania and says he wants to make sure he does it.
We get a video on Jordan Oasis. He says he has everything he needs to survive in his backpack. He says he has slept on side walks and now goes to arena's. He says he lives on the bus, Greyhound to Greyhound. He says he goes into fast food restaurants and orders the cheapest thing just so he can shower in the rest room. He says he keeps fighting as it's part of his journey. He says he has everything he needs in the backpack.
Thoughts: Yeah, I wouldn't bring up the showering in restaurants things as it makes him seem like a dirty hobo.
Wes Lee vs Cappuccino Jones
They go to the mat and CJ armlocks him. Wes forearms and side headlocks him. CJ side headlocks him. Wes waistlock him but is tripped and low crossbodied. CJ headscissors him out of the corner.
CJ elbows him in the head. CJ does a blind leapfrog and dropkicks him. Wes is knocked off the apron and CJ tope con hilos him outside. We go to break and return.
CJ boots Wes out of the corner then is swept onto the top buckle. Wes basement dropkicks him then stomps him in the corner.
Wes dropkicks him through the ropes. They fight outside and CJ's head is banged off the apron. Wes hits kicks on him then throws him down backwards. Wes bangs CJ's head off the mat.
They each hit shots and Wes spinning heel kicks him for 2. Wes elbows him in the head. CJ backslides him then rolls him up for 2. Wes hits a step up enzugiri. CJ hits lariats and a half-nelson suplex for 2.
Wes pump kicks him then CJ sitout slams him for 2. Tyson Dupont and Tyriek Igwe distract CJ. Jack Cartwheel topes them. The refs break the fight up outside. Wes hits a tornado ddt on CJ then running meteora's him for 2. Wes misses a 450 then CJ hits a big punch. CJ holds him like a ddt and forward rolls for 2.
CJ misses a top rope elbow drop. Wes rolls him up for 2 and puts his feet on the ropes on the pin attempt. CJ rolls him up for 2. Wes knees him in the gut and superkicks him in the back of the head. Wes hits a caradiac kick and wins.
Thoughts: It wasn't great but it was fine for what it was. It could have used a little less time. CJ didn't get to hit a lot of his offense here. Wes won this one as expected.
Overall thoughts: It was a decent episode of Evolve but nothing that would blow you away. The opening women's tag match was fine and Jamar Hampton looked good against Gal. Wes/Jones was an okay main. We only had three matches here and it would have been nice to get another in. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 overall as everything was fine here.
