All Japan Pro Wrestling New Year Wars 2022 Day 2 1/3/2022

All Japan Pro Wrestling New Year Wars 2022 Day 2 1/3/2022

I skipped the first 3 matches.

NEXTREAM (Atsuki Aoyagi & Rising HAYATO) and Yu Iizuka vs. TOTAL ECLIPSE (Hokuto Omori & Yusuke Kodama) and Ryuki Honda

Atsuki was decent here as usual and Honda ended up winning this one with a boss chokeslam on him. He threw him legit halfway across the ring. Unfortunately, this was short and with so many guys involved, it had no chance to hit its potential. Yu, Aoyagi and Rising are a cool little team.

Jun Saito, Rei Saito & Yoshitatsu vs. Ren Ayabe, Shuji Ishikawa & Takao Omori

Jun and Shuji had a nice strike exchange in the corner. Ayabe wore a shirt that said "the tallest" and he really is tall, but he's also quite thin and green. Ren hit a dropkick where his legs little folded in half. Omori won with a lariat here on Rei and this wasn't very good. Nikkan Lee tried to raise the hands of the winners but Shuji and Ren had their arms too high up and she couldn't grab them.

GAORA TV Championship Match: Shigehiro Irie (c) vs. Koji Doi

Irie hit a nice swinging side slam on Doi then hit a nice cannonball in the corner on him. They then started trading some nice lariats and Irie picked up the win I think after a lariat after about 10 minutes. It wasn't bad at all but you could tell they were rushed to get it done with early.

World Junior Heavyweight Championship Match: Super Crazy (c) vs. SUGI

This would have been really good in 2008. I dunno about in 2022. Sugi really hasn't lost much of a step at all here and did a lot of his usual spots. Super Crazy looked gassed out though and looked legit hurt. Crazy did a spot where he yelled at the ref to count in Spanish, so she did. Sugi won this with a run of the top rope dropkick then a springboard 450.

World Tag Team Championship Match: Runaway SUPLEX (Shotaro Ashino & SUWAMA) (c) vs. NEXTREAM (Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi)

Yuma and Aoyagi started going at it early after Yuma threw a kick at Ashino and he started wrestling him. They ended up trading chops outside the ring. Suwama hit a great sleeperhold/choke on Yuma, really jerking his head around. Ashino took Yuma for a hard ride on a Karelin's Lift then Yuma came back with a hard john woo style dropkick into the corner. Ashino then hit a great Karelin's lift on Kento.

Yuma hit a nice crossbody then got 2v1'd later on with a cool spinning euro uppercut from Ashino. Ashino missed a corner rush and dove head first into the buckles. Suwama nailed Kento hard with a lariat. Yuma made a surprise comeback and nailed Ashino hard with three germans in a row then Ashino ducked a high spin kick for an ankle lock and a release german.

Suwama hit Yuma with a big backdrop then a stick dropkick on Kento, then him and Ashino hit a combo powerbomb/german. Yuma got nuked with a sweat flying lariat from Ashino but kicked out at 2. Ashino then won with his exploder suplex into a slam.

The match wasn't that great storyline or logic wise but the action was good with tons of stiff shots and some nice nearfalls leading to the finish.

Overall thoughts: The main was good and the Irie/Doi match was fine for what it was. Not a must see show by any means.
