 AEW Rampage 1/21/2022

Jon Moxley vs Ethan Page

Page mocked Mox early and they traded chops. Mox took a big bump to the outside off a shoulder bump and a table that he was on broke as he got punched on it. Page got Mox hung up on the middle rope and did an unusual backbreaker on it. Mox missed a charge in the corner and speared the post.

Mox hit some germans on Page and they slapped each other, then Mox hit a big lariat. Page hit a nice brainbuster and went over the top where he got tope'd. Page hit a 2nd rope powerslam on Mox which wasn't sold much, then Page took elbows and knees to the face. Mox then won with a choke.

This was a decent one. They were stiff with each other and fought hard though they didn't have a lot of storyline to work with here. Mox hit Page with a DDT after and Bryan Danielson walked up to Mox as he was leaving.

Jurassic Express talked about the Gunn Club. They said they crossed the line when they attacked Christian and said his sons are just as entitled and sour as Billy Gunn is. He said they are not coming to wrestle them but to stomp their heads into the ground.

Trent Beretta vs Nick Jackson

Nick ran up the ropes for an armdrag early. Nick took an overhead throw early from the bearhug position and then he caught Nick with a similar move off of Nick's failed springboard. Trent went for a crossbody but hit the ropes as Nick moved then got a neckbreaker over the ropes. Nick did Randy Savage impersonations after hitting a couple of his moves and barely made it over the top on a dive. Matt Jackson and OC argued outside, and I'm not sure why OC didn't just do a slow motion kick to the shin to him to show he is serious.

Trent hit some hard forearms on the ropes then Nick did an escape into a moonsault outside of the ring before getting speared on the floor. Trent backdropped him hard and tornado ddt'd him for 2. The ref got put in the way then they traded germans. Nick did a slingshot canadian destroyer for a 2 count, naturally. Trent was up trading shots after seconds later. Nick did some kind of SOS kick variation and Trent hit a release half and half suplex that wasn't sold. Trent then hit a piledriver but everyone was up soon after. Nick then did a top rope senton atomico to the ramp on him and a 450 which of course was only good for 2. Trent then won with a beach break.

This was the most indy match you've ever seen and was awful. It is my pick for Worst Match of the Year 2022. These two bozo's decided to do their rendition of Misawa vs Kawada (with flips) in the middle match of a b-show that few watched. There was almost no selling and no common sense involved.

Mercedez Martinez did a promo on Thunder Rosa. she said she enjoyed costing Rosa the title and Rosa cut a promo back in mostly spanish. I have no idea who thought having two people cut promos in spanish against each other was a good idea.

Hook vs Serpentico

Serpentico was wearing a Hayabusa themed mask and robe and got nailed during his pose. Hook hit some judo throws, an STO and a overhead belly to belly. Hook then one with a tazzmission.  It was a short squash as it should have been and Hook looked good, but it really did kind of look like two high schoolers fighting.

QT Marshall came out and ripped him. He called him a deliquent and accused him of sucker punching him. QT then got suplexed by him on the stage. Hook then walked over him and left in a cool exit.

Anna Jay and Jade did side by side promos. Jade called her "Anna Banana". Jay said she has a dark side to her and said TBS stands for "That B*tch Slayer" and Jade told her to bring the barbed wire. I liked this.

TBS Women's Title - Jade Cargill (c) vs Anna Jay

Jade hit a fallaway slam then did a kip-up. Jade went up in John Silver's face and was much bigger than him, then John ducked and Anna lariated her. Jade hit a nice spinebuster and a belly to belly as Jay charged her. Jay hit her spinning high kick from the apron and put her in a sleeper. Jay hit some superkicks and Silver suplexed Mark Sterling on the floor. Jay took a pump kick soon after and rolled through a double chickenwing into a choke. Jay hit a hanging choke in the corner and Jade hit a running one handed powerbomb (with an assist from the buckle). She then hit her double chickenwing bomb and won it.

It was short but fun match. Jade was the big heel and Jay did some underdog stuff before her eventual loss. Jade moves like The Great Khali though and she's still green. They showed Jade's kid cheering her on and they should not be doing that here since she is a monster heel.

Overall thoughts: Aside from the worst match of the year contender in Nick vs Trent, I liked the show. The other matches were good and 2 of the other 3 over-accomplished but the Mercedez/Rosa thing sucked and there were some other issues.
