WWF Wrestling Challenge 2/9/1992

WWF Wrestling Challenge 2/9/1992

NOTE - There is a weird situation here that needs explained. In the 2/16/1992 episode of Wrestling Challenge, they show the segment where Sid Justice destroyed The Barber Shop. They say it happened last Sunday, which would be this episode. I have two versions of this show. That segment does not air on either version of it. Other people listed it as happening on this episode. The only clips I can find it of it are from the 2/16/92 episode. Normally, it wouldn't be much of a problem or something to worry about. However, that ends up being the final segment of The Barber Shop plus one of the key parts of Sid's heel turn, so it's important. I will review the next episode of Wrestling Challenge which will have it.

We are in Fort Myers, Florida.

Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon are our hosts. Gorilla says if Flair loses to Hulk at Mania VIII, it'll be one of the shortest reigns. Heenan says the sun will shine on Flair as long as he wants good weather.

The Big Boss Man vs Jim Cooper

They lock up. Jim hits him off the break and takes a flurry of punches. Boss sends him hard into the buckles then wind up punches him. Boss hits another punch then chokes him. Boss drops him with a punch then hits a big boot. Boss boots him around and clubs on him.

Boss rakes his face and backbreakers him. Boss then hits a sidewalk slam to win.

Thoughts:
This went long. Boss was a terrible face here as he pulled on Jim's face and did other dirty tactics.

Boss handcuffs Jim to the ropes after.

WWF Special Report

Lord Alfred Hayes says this is brought to us by the WWF Merchandise Catalog.

Al talks about this week's SNME and says Bret Hart will challenge the winner of Piper/Mountie at SNME. He also announces Flair/Taker vs Sid/Hulk. We see clips from the WM7 press conference where Sid starts his heel turn. Sid does a promo after. He says his words were taken the wrong way and he sincerely apologizes to Hulk Hogan. Al then tells us not to miss SNME this week.

Skinner vs Kevin Katlin

Skin offers a handshake with tobacco spit in his hands. Kev shakes his hand, realizes his mistake and is punched. Skin pumphandle slams him then throws him out. Skin does an inset promo. He says nobody knows what to expect what to get when they face him in the ring. He says he's from the Everglades and shows two gators who he says are friends.

Skin pulls Kev's throat down over the top rope then he hits a reverse ddt to get the win.

Thoughts:
I enjoyed the tobacco handshake spot. Other than that, it was a quick squash with Skin winning.

We see clips from old Mania's.

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney shills the 2/29/92 Boston Garden show. Ric Flair, Perfect, Paul Bearer and The Undertaker do a promo. Flair says Roddy Piper will be in his in their upcoming house show match and says Hulk has to meet Taker straight up. Taker says Hulk won't make it to Mania.

Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper do a promo. Hulk says everything is subject to change. He says you can always depend on Roddy Piper though. He says they gotta find something out. Piper says they have been going to war for a long time. Piper says they need guys who can drag people like Taker on the mat and pull his lungs out.

The Repo Man vs Mickey Jay

Repo punches Jay twice while still wearing his entrance coat. Jay is near the ropes, Repo sneaks around and punches him there. Virgil does an inset promo. He says Repo won't repossess his career as if his right hand doesn't get him, the left one will. Repo chokes Jay on the ropes then lariats him. Repo legdrops him.

Repo punches him and says that's what happens when you don't make a payment. Jay's head is banged off the buckles and he's punched more. Repo chops him then submits him with his leglock.

Thoughts:
It was the usual not so interesting Repo squash. Repo didn't do much but punches here.

Repo chokes Jay with his rope after and drags him around the ring with it. Heenan cheers Repo on and says Jay must have missed some payments.

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney says tonight's SNMME could lay the framework for Mania. Sean hypes up the 2/24/92 Worcester Centrum show.

The Nasty Boys and Jimmy Hart do a promo on The Legion of Doom. Saggs says they are coming out with the tag titles around their waists in their match. Knobbs says The LOD thought they were done with them but they popped back up in their face. Knobbs says they are going down.

The Legion of Doom do a promo. Animal says The Nasty's have one last shot at them. Animal says they will wrestle anyone at any time and says to get ready to get your butts kicked. Hawk says he remembers the smell in The Nasty's trunks and says to take care of that business. Hawk says they are done.

The Texas Tornado vs Pat Tanaka

Pat nails Kerry from behind before he gets his robe off. Pat hits headbutts and punches and Heenan mocks Kerry not being able to get his robe off.

Kerry hits punches and hits a running shot to drop him. Kerry lariats Pat then puts the iron claw on him. Kerry keeps the claw on for a while then discus punches him. Kerry then gets the pin.

Thoughts: It went longer than it needed to and Kerry didn't do much but punches and the claw here. Kerry didn't seem 100% in this one.

The Funeral Parlor

Sensational Sherri comes out in a dress. She spins around and Paul's eyes shoot wide open in a funny moment. Sherri talks about the man of her dreams. She says he has long blonde flowing locks and has a body sculptured in a way the Greek gods would envy. She says this man has great wrestling ability and has an animal magnetism that makes her blood run hot. She says she's in love with Shawn Michaels.

She says Shawn has never needed Marty Jannetty and has all the time to accept the love Sherri can give him. Paul asks what about Ted Dibiase? She says he's a loving and caring man. She says Ted left the door for her to return anytime. She says Ted has given her gifts any woman in the world would dream of having. She says Ted only wants what makes her happy. Sherri says what makes her happy is giving and sharing all her wealth with Shawn Michaels.

The Legion of Doom (Animal and Hawk) vs Bob Avery and Bob Morgan

The LOD attack before the bell. Animal dropkicks BM then slams him. Animal then hits an elbow drop. Hawk chops BM over then slams him. Hawk knees BA in the gut and gutwrench suplexes him. Hawk running forearms BA and chops him.

Hawk running facekicks BA. Animal powerslams BA. Heenan says Bret's new nickname is "Sniffles" after he had a fever. Animal corner lariats BA. BA takes a doomsday device and is pinned.

Thoughts:
It was the usual LOD squash with their opponents getting nothing in and being run over.

Papa Shango vs Brian Costello

Papa boots BC in the gut and clubs his back. Papa corner splashes him and slams him. Papa hits a legdrop. Papa knees BC in the back. Papa chokes him on the ropes then does like a flying forearm/head twist. Papa shoulderbreakers him and pins him.

Thoughts: Papa can move okay for a bigger guy. The squash wasn't anything too impressive though.

WWF Event Center

Sean hypes up the next Boston Garden show on 2/29/1992

Ted Dibiase talks about his upcoming no time limit match with El Matador. Ted says time is money and he can't afford to waste time with him. He says he beat him within an inch of his life last time and says he won't need much time this time.

The Big Boss Man does a promo on The Repo Man. He says Repo stole from him and is trash. He says he's on his most wanted list. He says he has to face Boss' eyes and find out what hard time is all about.

The announcers talk about next week's show and SNME to close the show.

Overall thoughts: There wasn't much of note here. As usual, there were a lot of replays from Superstars from the last week and there were just squashes otherwise. I wouldn't recommend this one.
