AEW Dynamite 10/12/2022

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/10/aew-dynamite-1052022.html

Renee Paquette comes out. She just signed with AEW this week and used to be Renee Young in the WWE. She's okay at what she does, but I hope they didn't pay much for her as I don't think she's a draw or that special. Renee interviews Christian. Christian says it is great to be back in Toronto. He insults the local sports team and brings out Luchasaurus.

Luchasaurus vs Jungle Boy

JB running shotgun dropkicks Lucha then pounds on him in the corner. JB dropkicks him in the back then JB takes a stiff wheelbarrow german. Lucha chops JB on the top rope and he rolls to the floor. Lucha sets up a table outside and pushes JB's back into the post. Lucha accidentally chops the post then JB pulls his arm around the post. Lucha throws JB's back into the apron and rails. He really throws him into one rail and JB flips into it and lands on his head on the cement. JB is then backdropped on the apron from the floor.

We go to PiP break and Lucha spears the ringpost on accident. JB topes Lucha but is caught and ends up sending Lucha into the post. They fight on the apron and Lucha takes a superkick. JB sunset bombs Lucha through the table from the apron. Christian says this should be a DQ. Christian distracts JB then Lucha pops up in the ring. JB hits superkicks on Lucha then is popped up and thrown down. JB then is flipped on a lariat.

Lucha does a running reverse F-U on JB. They go up top. JB tries to baseball slide him in the tree of woe but Lucha headscissors him. Lucha then buckle bombs him and chokeslams him for 2. JB crucifix bombs Lucha for 2 then poisonrana's him. JB then hits a killswitch only for 2. Lucha flips JB off the top with a chokeslam then does a burning hammer for the win.

They did too much here and it went longer than it needed to. I had a hard time buying JB being able to really hurt Lucha due to the size differences.

The Firm is celebrating in the back. Private Party and Matt Hardy walk in. Stokeley says PP wanted out of their contracts, so he did that for them and now their contracts belong to Stokeley. Matt says they should fight in a match for the contracts tonight to Ethan Page. Page accepts the idea and says Isaiah Kassidy has to beat him to be freed. Page then says if he wins, The Firm then owns Matt Hardy's contract too. I'm not a big fan of this storyline since we've already done the Matt Hardy and Private Party thing. It didn't get over the first time and them with him again a second time won't help much nor will them in The Firm.

Samoa Joe and Wardlow vs The Factory (QT Marshall and Nick Comorto)

They fight to start and Wardlow/Nick go outside. Joe sentons QT then hits a punch combo in the corner. Wardlow beats up on QT then hits a big lariat. Nick hits corner spears on QT then Wardlow spinebusters Nick. Wardlow hits a top rope swanton on Nick then Joe chokes out Nick to win. QT takes Wardlow's powerbombs after.

This was short and I didn't like Nick Comoroto doing the job here or being beaten so easy.

Prince Nana and the Embassy come out. Nana says he is tired of Wardlow and Joe getting into their business. Cage says nobody wants to see Wardlow powerbomb QT. Cage said Wardlow got involved in their business when they were going to beat up FTR last week. FTR then come out.

FTR says there's 3 of the Embassy and they have the perfect partner for them on Rampage. They say Rampage starts at 10, so they bring out Shawn Spears, oh joy. Spears throws Solow in the ring then FTR hit Solow with a big rig.

The JAS is interviewed. Parker calls Danielson a piece of garbage and said he made this personal by trying to poach Garcia. He said he broke up their happy family. Jericho said Danielson forced Jericho to hurt Garcia then says he will outwrestle Danielson tonight.

Billy Gunn vs Swerve Strickland

Billy hits a punch early and bangs his head off the buckles. Billy shoulders him over and teases pulling down his trunks. Swerve comes off the bottom rope with a dropkick to the knee. We go to PiP break and return. Swerve pushes Billy out then goes over the top and drops a knee on him.

Billy tilt-a-whirl slams Swerve then hits lariats. Billy jackhammers Swerve. Swerve cranks the knee from underneath and rolls into a flatliner. Swerve top rope double stomps Billy for 2. Swerve rolls Billy near the ropes and despite both guys having their hands on the ropes, the ref counts for the pin for Swerve.

I didn't think this was anything special. I didn't think the knee work was that great.

The Acclaimed come down and are mad. Mark Sterling comes down with Tony Nese. Mark says he now owns the trademark, "scissor me" and says they can't do it anymore. Mark then scissors Nese. I'm not a fan of that at all as it just seems dumb and Mark Sterling feuds are not doing anything for anyone.

MJF is interviewed. Stokeley comes in and talks about taking out Wheeler Yuta last week. MJf isn't happy about it and says this is strike #2 for him. He says if he screws up again, he is fired and tells him to take his Carlton Banks looking self out. MJF talks about William Regal. He said he wasn't sure if he would shake Wheeler Yuta's hand and said he learned the hard way that nice guys finish last. MJF says he has no choice but to be the bad guy. He said he doesn't care if people don't like him because he doesn't like him either when he's out there. He says he will become champion and says he is a generational talent.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and brings out Jon Moxley. Mox says being champ isn't easy. He says it's a dirty job and you have to be ruthless. He calls out Adam Page. Page comes out with some goofy looking jeans with tassles and stars. Page says he doesn't like Mox calling him a "nice kid". Mox says he doesn't think Page has the guts to take him out next week. Page says he is left with nothing and angry. Page talks about the things he has been through and says he keeps coming back. Page says he will beat up Mox within an inch of his life to take the title back. Page says he will be the next AEW champ. Page then walks off. There was some good stuff here from Page, but also some weak stuff with him saying he was on medicine and can't sleep at night.

We get a quick video on Jericho vs Danielson.

ROH World Title - Chris Jericho (c) vs Bryan Danielson

Bryan kicks Jericho's hand away on the handshake and rolls him up. They trade chops for euro uppercuts. Jericho is caught on a dropkick and catapulted over the top. Bryan then topes Jericho. Bryan hits corner punches and kicks on Jericho. Jericho then hits corner punches on him. Jericho then top rope hurricanrana's him. We go to PiP break and return to Jericho ddt'ing Danielson. He dropkicks him off the apron then springboard plancha's him on the outside.

They fight up top again and Bryan top rope butterfly suplexes him. Bryan crossfaces him then Jericho boston crabs him. Bryan gets out and hits mounted punches then boston crabs him. Jericho rolls up Bryan then takes a high kick. Bryan hits elbows on Jericho then is F-U'd. Jericho misses a lionsault then takes a top rope knee, twice. Bryan takes a codebreaker and is pushed into the ref. They clothesline each other and go down.

The ROH title is put in the ring by Menard and Daniel Garcia comes out and stops Jericho from using it. Garcia and Jericho push each other and Bryan busaiku knees Jericho. Garcia hits Bryan with the title belt. Jerciho then picks up the win.

Dirty finishes aren't that fun but there was a story involved in it, so that works. It wasn't a classic or anything too special, but it was decent.

The Blackpool Combat Club comes down as the JAS celebrates but nothing happens.

Toni Storm and Hikaru Shida vs Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter

Jamie pushes Shida then Shida pushes her over. Britt and Jamie are wearing matching gear. Shida dropkicks Jamie and Storm clubs on Jamie. Storm running facekicks her and Britt grabs Storm's leg from the outside. Jamie then nails Storm with a big boot and pounds on her.

We go to PiP break and return. Shida and Britt are going at it and Shida hits her with a forearm flurry. Shida jumping knees her then hits rapid corner punches. Jamie tries to stop it and is superplexed in from the 2nd outside rope. Shida suplexes Britt on Jamie then 2nd rope meteora's Britt. Everyone gets a move in and Shida takes double superkicks, then a lariat and a curbstomp for 2. Storm tornado ddt's Britt the Shida sliding forearms Britt. Storm short piledrivers Britt.

Shida walks up the buckles and does a triangle enzugiri on Britt then Jamie is DDT'd on the floor. Britt goes for lockjaw on Shida and they roll each other up. Shida eventually pins her in a surprising finish.

This was fast paced and action packed. It was one of the better efforts the women have put out there.

Butcher and Blade are interviewed. They are mad at CC making Rush look bad by beating up PP last week. They yell at CC and Mox to fight them and they will, on Rampage.

AEW All-Atlantic Title - Pac (c) vs Orange Cassidy

OC rushes at Pac and is kicked then Pac flying boots the side of his head. OC hits forearms and Pac puts OC's hands in his pockets. Pac then does OC's slow kick routine to the legs and OC dropkicks him before he can finish. OC topes him, gets caught and is falcon arrow'd on the floor.

We go to a 3 minute PiP break and Pac apparently tombstoned OC on the ramp during it. OC rolls down the ramp to help get to the ring in a silly moment and Pac brutalizers him. OC hits the ropes. Pac goes outside to argue with the ref after trying to get a hammer then OC topes him then topes him into a ddt on the floor. OC hits a sick looking ddt on Pac and hits an orange punch for 2.

OC hits a beach break on Pac on the apron. Pac puts him in the brutalizer and OC ropebreaks then Pac goes out for the hammer. Danhausen takes off his hoodie out there and is where the hammer is. He tries to curse him and gets hit. Pac gets a hammer and OC running punches him. OC gets the hammer but is rolled up then OC hits an orange punch. OC hits another orange punch and wins it.

They did way too much here with multiple floor bumps and an apron ddt. OC didn't do his usual nonsense here which helped things out. If this means OC goes to Dark and Europe like Pac did when he won this title, I'm all for it.

OC got confetti and Best Friends celebrated with him after.

Overall thoughts: Look, I'm not a big AEW fan. I don't really try to hide that or pretend otherwise. They put out an effort here in their matches but they did do too much in most of them and we had a couple of dirty finishes.
