Ring of Honor on HonorClub 4/18/2024 Episode #60
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/04/ring-of-honor-on-honorclub-4112024.html
We get a promo from Collision with Mark Briscoe. He said he's starting to understand how House of Black operates. He said they are trying to intimidate but he feels no man. He said him, Adam and Eddie are violent men and they are bringing the violence at Dynasty. He says House of Black needs to be afraid.
Aaron Solo vs Bryan Keith
Solo gives him an over the top handshake. BK pushes him, Solo slaps him then BK pounds on him. BK shoulders him over and slams him. BK suplexes him then Solo sends BK into the steps outside. Solo stomps and pounds on him when he gets in the ring.
BK hits chops and forearms. Solo back elbows him then knees him in the back. Solo stomps him in the corner and foot chokes him. BK hits forearms back then running face kicks him. Solo superkicks him. BK no sells it and exploders him. BK ushigoroshi's him.
Solo blocks a sunset flip then double stomps him. Solo exploders him then top rope double stomps him for 2. BK enzugiri's him then takes a corkscrew kick. Solo goes up top and BK headbutts him. BK diamond dust's him and gets the win.
I thought it was a solid match here with BK being a good underdog face before getting the win.
BK then mocks him with the over the top handshake after.
Lance Archer and The Righteous vs Damian Chambers, Jon Cruz & Savion Truitt
Vincent drops Chambers in the corner. Chambers tries to dropkick him but it's no sold then Vincent flying back elbows him. Lance and Savion go at it. Lance shoulders him over then chops him in the corner. Dutch short arm lariats Savion then exploders him. Vincent side effects Savion then Dutch legdrops him.
Jon gets in and hits shots on Vincent. Vincent counters a double team and throws Jon into Chambers. Vincent hits the orange sunshine on Chambers then Lance hits a black out on Savion onto Chambers. Vincent gets the pin.
It was a quick squash as expected here with the jobbers getting nothing in.
Smart Mark Sterling does a video hyping up Tony Nese.
Smart Mark Sterling then does a promo with The Premier Athletes (including Ari Daivari). He said the last time he was on camera, he said he had a plan. He took his crew off the road and sent them to fight camp. He says his crew are the most underappreciated athletes in the company. He said they look and walk like stars and will be champions by the end of the year. He said Supercard of Honor was phase one of his plan and phase two starts tonight.
Lee Johnson vs JD Drake
JD is wearing pants here with a singlet. JD hiptosses him then poses. JD armdrags Lee then slams him. Lee blocks a hiptoss and armdrags him. Lee armdrags him again then hits a forearm. Lee dropkicks him and chops him. JD gets mad and tells him to do it again. JD stun guns him near the top buckle.
JD hits a nice punch then Lee sunset flips him. JD misses a butt drop and Lee tries to pin him. JD spinebusters him. JD then slams him. JD chinlocks him and Lee superkicks him out. Lee tope con hilos him then top rope crossbodies him. JD throws him into the ropes outside and forearms him on the rebound.
JD misses a cannonball and they fight on the buckles. Lee sunset bombs him off the buckles then Lee top rope splashes him. Lee then picks up the win.
It was longer and slower than it should have been with real basic work. I was pretty bored by this.
Abadon vs Allysin Kay
They shake hands and Ab bites the arm. Ab headbutts her in the gut and hits boots. Ab then basement dropkicks her. Kay hits mounted shots then samoan drops her. Kay hits shots in the corner then throws her hard into the buckles. Kay corner splashes her.
Ab boots her out of the corner then facebusters her. Ab 2nd rope crossbodies Kay then running knees her. Ab puts her leg around Kay's head then drives it into the mat to win.
It was just a short squash.
Taya Valkyrie is interviewed by Lexy. Taya is asked where Johnny TV is. She said he's recovering from Supercard of Honor and rehabbing his abs. She says they will carry the burden of the TV Family on her back in trios action. She tells Lexy to go and Lexy says this is her interview. Taya then hits her with her hip and leaves.
The Iron Savages vs The Infantry
Trish Adora is not with The Infantry here. CB and Boulder start us off. Boulder throws him back then CB wristlocks him. Boulder arm throws him down then CB dropkicks him. Boulder takes a double dropkick then Bronson takes a double hiptoss. Bronson gets his legs split then Dean elbow drops Boulder.
Jacked Jameson distracts Dean on the apron then Bronson suplexes Dean. Dean takes a shoulder block + suplex combo. Boulder headbutts Dean in the chest. Bronson tries to send Dean's face into Boulder's chest, but Dean sends Boulder in instead.
Boulder is sent over the top then CB gets the hot tag in. He drops Bronson with forearms then does his fakeout crossover punch on Bronson. CB legdrops Boulder over the middle rope then does a side falcon arrow. Jameson gets on the apron again for a distraction. CB superkicks him, making him spit his drink. Dean then plancha's outside.
Bronson is pushed into a CB superkick then Bronson takes bootcamp (face kick + russian legsweep) and is pinned.
It was a fun tag match here with The Savages showing a lot of personality and The Infantry being decent faces against them. These guys are so above doing these shows and it's a shame they don't get to do anything.
The Premier Athletes come out after and head down. The Athletes beat up The Infantry then Dalton Castle comes out. Mark Briscoe then also comes out with Bryan Keith and Lee Johnson.
It wasn't some amazing angle or anything but at least it's something and it leads to some kind of match I'm down for it.
Taya Valkyrie, Leila Grey and Diamante vs Trish Adora, Kiera Hogan and Leyla Hirsch
Taya mockingly shakes Hogan's hand. Taya boots her in the corner and snapmares her. Taya is tripped into the 2nd rope and Hogan hip attacks her on the ropes. Hogan does a step up legdrop on her for 2. Dia dropkicks Hogan in the corner.
Leyla karelin's lifts Dia then Trish armwringers Dia down. Dia russian legsweeps Trish then hits mounted shots. Grey pulls Trish's head forward and pounds on her. Trish is double teamed in the corner and Taya meteora's her. Taya kicks Trish in the gut then Trish kneeling germans her.
Hogan flying back elbows Dia when they get in then she neckbreakers her. Hogan 2nd rope dropkicks her then shotgun dropkicks Grey. Hogan baseball slides Grey in the corner for 2.
Taya hits knees on Hogan then picks her up and drops her for 2. Leyla backdrops Dia then Hogan superkicks Taya. Trish bubba bombs Taya for 2. Grey slingblades Trish for 2. Grey is pump kicked into a german suplex. Taya trips Hogan from the outside then Leyla topes Taya. Dia cannonballs Leyla outside then Trish lariats Dia outside. Hogan high kicks Grey then swinging fisherman's neckbreakers her for 2.
It was a decent trios match. They kept it moving and nobody embarrassed themselves. I didn't even know Grey was still with the company to be honest since we hadn't seen her for months.
Griff Garrison, Cole Karter (in a Seprentico mask) and Maria are interviewed. Lexy said they have unfinished business with Serp's mask. Griff says he doesn't care about the mask and says it's a stepping stone. He said Serp doesn't have to trick them into a match to get it, they will beat him up anywhere. Maria says Griff is fighting Mark Briscoe in a proving ground match tonight.
Nick Comoroto vs The Beast Mortos
Mortos is the former Black Taurus. He left AAA and they kept the name. I would have just gone with Black Bull, Black Tauro or Black Beast, but it doesn't matter that much.
Nick looks down and bothered here. Nick shoves him back and piefaces him. They shoulder battle and Mort hurricanrana's him. Mort codebreakers Nick's arm then Nick hits a big lariat. Nick pounds on him then steps on his face. Nick slams him then hits a big jumping elbow for 2.
Mort jawbreakers him and hits some spinning strikes. Mort 619's him on the 2nd rope then top rope dropkicks him for 2. Nick misses a corner charge then Mort corkscrew splashes him off the top to win.
This didn't work. They didn't seem to communicate well and I think Mortos wasn't used to facing someone who was so much bigger than him. I'm really surprised Jacoby Watts wasn't involved here.
Lady Frost vs Marti Belle
MB wristlocks her. Lady cartwheels out and armdrags her. Lady offers a handshake and MB says no. Lady wristlocks her. MB shoulders her over and poses. MB throws Lady backwards then corner splashes her. MB corner chops her then Lady hits corner chops.Lady cartwheels over MB's back then dropkicks her in the back. MB foot chokes her then lariats her. MB piefaces her then Lady hits punches and knees. Lady lariats her then back elbows her. Lady step up kicks her in the corner then forward cartwheel cannonballs her in the corner for 2.
MB hits a stiff forearm for 2. Lady spinning high kicks her then hits a corkscrew moonsault for the win.
I thought it was a pretty good effort and they definitely did everything they needed to do here. Belle was good heel, talking trash constantly here and Lady got to show off her flying. I think it would have been better in front of a better crowd.
Nick Comoroto is interviewed and looks flustered. Jacoby Watts walks in and tells him to turn the page and enter a new chapter. He says nothing changes if nothing changes. He says it's a harsh reality but he's his answer. He says follow him and he will lead him to the light.
Like last week, Jacoby Watts was really good here. I don't know where he practiced this gimmick at but he is nailing this gimmick.
The Dark Order (Evil Uno & John Silver) vs Frank Milano & Zak Patterson
Zak has a really good look and should not be doing jobber duty here. Frank forearms Uno hard to start then side headlocks him. Uno shoulders Frank over. Frank goes for a leapfrog but gets atomic dropped. Uno stomps Frank's hand. Frank takes a double shoulder and The Dark Order pose.
Zak boots Silver then Silver running euros him. Zak gets powerbombed off a hurricanrana attempt. Zak dropkicks Silver then side headlocks him. Silver is held for a slingblade from Frank. Frank splashes Silver for 2.
Zak and Silver trade. Zak hits knees to the back then does a karelin's lift to Silver. Silver fights out of the corner then suplexes Zak. Uno gets in and lariats Frank. He hits corner attacks on both opponents then Uno makes Zak ddt Frank.
Frank takes a facekick then a combo into a german. Uno hits a deep six on Frank and wins it.
I liked the jobbers here and I'm happy they got a little in. The Dark Order were faces this week after not being faces on TV the last time we saw them. They seem to flip back and forth between faces and heels depending on the day. Zak looked too good to be jobbing here.
Proving Ground Match - Mark Briscoe (c) vs Griff Garrison
Griff side headlocks Mark. Mark rolls through a sunset flip and side headlocks him. Mark and Griff trade headlock takeovers and Mark backs him off with kung fu poses. Griff boots Mark then Mark running face kicks Griff. Mark face kicks him out then tope con hilos him through the ropes.
Mark puts a fan's hat on then Griff is slammed on the floor. Mark tries to do his elbow drop off the apron but Maria gets in the way. Cole Karter distracts Mark then Griff running double axe handles Mark. Griff boots Mark in the corner then Cole chokes Mark.
Mark chops Griff. Mark back elbows him then takes a face kick for 2. Mark hits chops then Griff forearms him. Griff torture rack bombs him for 2. Griff is on the buckles and gets hit. Mark plancha's outside onto Griff and Cole. Mark hits 2 lariats on Griff then jay drillers him. Mark then picks up the win.
It was an okay match with the heels cheating and Mark overcoming them to win it. The crowd liked it which really helped things out.
Overall thoughts: It was a decent episode of ROH. We only saw one of the champs this week. I liked the opener, The Savages vs The Infantry and the main was okay. On the negative side, The Dark Order can't decide if they are faces or heels, Mortos and Nick didn't work well together and we didn't see Athena and Billie at all here. I wouldn't recommend it but it wasn't a total waste of time and I got some enjoyment out of it.
