Ring of Honor TV 9/28/2013

Ring of Honor TV 9/28/2013

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/09/ring-of-honor-tv-9212013-results-and.html

Nigel McGuinness says the war on SCUM is over and ROH prevailed. Nigel McGuinness says the ROH Title is vacant due to Jay Briscoe being injured. Nigel says a new champ will be decided via a tournament. Adam Cole, Kevin Steen and Michael Elgin make their cases for why they will win the title.

Adam Cole says the stakes don't get any higher tonight as it's him and Ciampa in the semifinals of the ROH Title Tournament. He says Ciampa deserves to be in here after recovering from injury but he is not going through rehab (after being injured), he's facing him.

ROH Title Tournament Semifinals - Adam Cole vs Tomasso Ciampa

They shake hands. TC charges him with a boot and stomps on him in the corner. Cole pump kicks him then topes him outside. TC spears him into the rails. TC running knees him outside against the rails. TC powerbombs Cole on an unfolded chair outside then running knees him against the rail.

TC pulls the ring mats up then suplexes Cole on the hard floor. We go to break and return. TC of course only gets a 2 count after all of that. Cole dropkicks him in the knee and shining wizards him for 2.

Come ushigoroshi's him for 2. TC knees him from the apron then Cole slingshot ddt's him onto the apron. TC knees him in the face then hits a sitout burning hammer for 2. TC running knees him in the corner. TC hits a 2nd rope air raid crash for 2.

TC is on the 2nd rope and is superkicked in the knee. TC's leg is banged off the post then Cole figure fours his leg around the post. Cole goes for the figure four and is cradled. Cole then figure fours him.

They trade forearms and Cole running knees him for 2. Cole running facekicks him then pump kicks him. TC spinning lariats him then powerbombs him on the knees for 2. Cole hits oblivion for 2 then figure fours him. They slap each other and Cole kicks him in the head from the figure four position. TC is knocked out and Cole wins.

Thoughts:
This was awful. The mighty Adam Cole was just so strong here that suplexes on the floor and 2nd rope air raid crashes weren't enough to put him down. Then they had a dumb finish with Ciampa being knocked out from boots to the head while in the figure four.

We get a promo for the 10/5/13 show. Red Dragon does a promo. Fish says Elgin and Lethal are top stars but not the well oiled machine they are. Kyle says they are not the cohesive squat-thrusting unit they are. Kyle looked 16 here.

Michael Elgin says a lot has changed in the last year between him and Kevin Steen. He said he knows how good he is and says it's time for him to be serious. He says this match brings him one step closer to the ROH Title.

We see clips of the Steen/Elgin feud. Steen says Elgin won't beat him in the tournament. Elgin says Steen beat him 10 months ago and it won't happen again.

Kevin Steen does a promo. He says it's a big night. He's wearing some stupid shirt with a tuxedo drawn on it. He says he's one step closer to getting his title back. He says he's not a rebel or angry anymore, he's just nice and will be the champ we deserve.

Veda Scott walks in and complains to Larry Mercer. She said this TV time should be hers so she can talk about the oppression her and Marshall are suffering.

ROH Title Tournament Semifinals - Michael Elgin vs Kevin Steen

They lock up and Mike backs him up in the corner. Steen rolls him down and front facelocks him. Mike wristlocks him then Steen headlocks him. They shoulder battle. Steen monkey flips him and curb stomps him.

Steen hits headbutts and chokes him with the knee. Mike forearms him down then 2nd rope moonsaults him for 2. Mike hits forearms then black hole slams him.

We go to break and return and Mike is ddt'd over the 2nd rope for 2. Steen top rope crossbodies him for 2. Mike flying shoulders him and does a corkscrew off of it. Mike enzugiri's him then hits a big lariat for 2.

Mike hits lariats on the ropes. Steen is sent into the post shoulder first then Mike crossfaces him. Steen tope rope swantons him for 2. Mike corner uranages him then Steen gets his knees up on a top rope corkscrew senton. Steen then does an F-5 for 2.

We go to break and return. Steen misses a cannonball then Mike deadlift germans him. Mike then crossfaces him. They trade forearms. Mike hits a pump kick and uraken then is pop-up powerbombed. Mike deadlift powerbombs him then buckle bombs him. Steen sharpshooters him.

Mike crossfaces him and gets 2 counts on him. Mike forearms him in the back of the head then takes a short arm lariat. Steen sleeper suplexes him for 2. Steen does two more sleeper suplexes and
Mike lariats him. Mike does a cool crossface out of a package piledriver attempt and taps him out. Mike wins.

Thoughts:
The selling could have been better as they were throwing each other around pretty good. The last match was so bad though selling wise that it made this seem a lot better on that front. I was okay with the finish as Mike went for it a few times and the actual finish was pretty cool. They went for a classic here and while it wasn't, I still think enough of the idea was there to make this somewhat good.

Overall thoughts: There were only two long matches here with almost nothing else happening. I really thought Cole/Ciampa was awful indy garbage and Steen/Elgin just barely scraped by to get a good rating from me. The audio was not good on this one and the arena looked dark. I wouldn't recommend this.

Mid-States Wrestling 6/28/2024 Season 2, Episode 15

 Mid-States Wrestling 6/28/2024 Season 2, Episode 15

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/06/mid-states-wrestling-6212024-season-2.html

Stephen E welcomes us to the show. Ateu vs Johnny Lightning and Jason Jones and Iron Mountain vs The Fraternity and Wrex Amadeus are our matches tonight.

Ateu vs Johnny Lightning

Ateu misses a splash and takes chops early. JL top rope double axe handles him. We go to break and return. JL hits corner punches then step up enzugiri's him. JL boots him out of the corner. Ateu catches a 2nd rope crossbody and swinging side slams him down.

Ateu hits punches and Garvin stomps him. JL hits some punches and is pulled down by the hair. Ateu chokes him on the ropes then step up knees him in the corner. Ateu splashes him. Ateu ducks a superkick and JL pounces on him. Ateu lariats him then misses one and gets a neckbreaker for it.

JL hits some lariats then slams him. JL top rope elbow drops him. JL nearly superkicks the ref and is low blowed. Ateu spears him and wins.

Thoughts: It was just a match. I thought Ateu should have been more of a heel in the beginning here to get more heat and to explain JL seemingly being more aggressive with him than usual.

Jason Jones and Iron Mountain (Handsome Jack and Diamond Duke) vs The Fraternity (Alan Jefferson and Cannonball Matthews) and Wrex Amadeus

NOTE - The name of Diamond Duke's partner has been a mystery for a while. They said his name was Hotbody Jack Hickory here. If you look online, it says his name is Handsome Jack.

CM = Cannonball Matthews

Duke has the tassles on and Jack has the gold and black shorts on. Jones hits elbows on Wrex's arm then back elbows him. Wrex's head is banged off the buckles and Jones chops him. Jones hiptosses him then Wrex takes a double lariat. Wrex takes a double hiptoss and Iron Mountain do push-ups.

Duke wristlocks Wrex. Alan gets in and is spinning slammed by Duke. Duke gorilla press drops Alan. Alan 2nd rope diving codebreakers him then chokes him on the ropes. CM and Wrex then help out.

Duke is double clubbed on. CM low lariats him. Duke is triple team backbreakered with Wrex putting up his knees for Duke to land on. Wrex russian legsweeps Duke then elbow drops him. Alan is catapulted into Duke in the corner then Alan legdrops him.

CM hits shots on Duke. We go to break and return. Jack is tagged in and hits shots on all 3 opponents. The ref isn't looking and Jack gets hit with a cookie sheet or briefcase. "Mr. Saturday Night" Michael Barry then comes in and hits The Fraternity with a chair. Jones and Iron Mountain are disqualified.

Thoughts: This is a follow up from the 6/14/24 episode where The Fraternity tried to jump Barry and Iron Mountain came to his aide. The match was fine but the finish wasn't that good as the face used the chair on heels and got the other faces disqualified. The better way to do this would have been to have the heels cheat and have Barry come out to even things up. Then Barry could have stopped them from cheating somehow and got busted.

Michael Barry apologizes after and said he got carried away. He says that felt really good.  Barry runs the ropes and says he's feeling good. He said he has never held the MSW Tag Title and says he doesn't know if he can ride off into the sunset until he holds it. Barry says he will return next week and wants to challenge for the tag titles with Jones. Jones asks how they will be able to take the Fraternity with Wrex in their corner when they don't have anyone in their corner. Jones says he'll call Jimmy Hart and have him manage them.

Overall thoughts: There were only two new matches as usual here. There were mic issues and it was hard to hear the commentators at times in both matches. We actually did get a follow up from an angle here and they built something for a future show which was appreciated. It was just an average show and I wouldn't really recommend it.

Ring of Honor on HonorClub 6/27/2024 Episode #70

Ring of Honor on HonorClub 6/27/2024 Episode #70

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/06/ring-of-honor-on-honorclub-6202024.html

Athena, Billie Starkz and Lexy Nair talk. Athena says she doesn't feel safe at work anymore. She says she's safe for 8-12 months. She says she now has two people being their private security from now on. Lexy says these hussies really need to learn who runs ROH. Athena says they need to get Lexy a championship.

Thoughts: I was hoping we'd find out what's going on with the Women's Title here, but there were no updates.

Alex Reynolds vs Lee Johnson

Lee rolls out of a wristlock, kips up and down and reverses it. Alex snapmares him and Lee hammerlocks him. Alex headscissors him and Lee kips up and stares him down. Lee sweeps him then is rolled up. Lee goes for the backslide then hits armdrags. Lee dropkicks him for 1.

They shove each other and Alex says he's sorry. Alex is lariated over the top then Lee tope con hilos him. Alex throws him into the steps outside. They go back in and Lee is thrown out again. Evil Uno throws Lee into the steps. Alex cravateplexes him.

Alex misses a top rope moonsault then is popped up into the buckles. Lee hits clotheslines then neckbreakers him. Lee kips up and standing moonsaults him for 2. Alex pop-up knees him then Lee hits a hurricanrana off a tiger driver. Alex facekicks him and is superkicked. Alex spinning forearms him in the face and the neck for 2.

Alex tiger drivers him then piledrivers him for 2. They trade cradles. Lee lawn darts him into the buckles and superkicks Uno off the apron. Lee lifts him with a reverse ddt and wins.

Thoughts: It was a decent match here with no real issues. The Dark Order switch between face and heel on this show constantly. Nobody watches it so people cheer them when they aren't supposed to. It makes things confusing and I just don't get what they are doing here. I also don't understand the logic behind having Lee lose last week and going back to pushing him in singles here.

Marina Shafir vs Erica Leigh

They shake hands and MS takes her down off of it. MS  wristlocks her then takes her down by the arm. MS hits mounted palm strikes then chokes her. Erica rolls her over and hits some shots. MS hits big face kick then hits strikes in the corner.

MS drops her with a kick then does an interesting 619 variation. MS Takes her down and submits her with a reverse choke.

Thoughts: As usual, MS had a decent squash here. She came off like a threat and this went about as well as it could have. I'd like to see more of what
Leigh can do.

The Undisputed Kingdom are interviewed. Taven doesn't believe the interviewers name is what it is. Mike gets down on his knees and prays for competition. Mike says when you get in the ring with them, you are stepping in the ring with the best in the world. He tells teams to come talk to them.

The Undisputed Kingdom vs Metalik and Komander in a Proving Ground Match is made for next week.

The Righteous and Lance Archer vs Victor Benjamin, Duke Davis and Ganon Jones Jr.

Lance and Duke trade forearms. Duke may even be taller than he is. Lance forearm flurries him down then Duke corner splashes him. Duke hits headbutts to the gut. Jones is sent over the top and Lance crossbodies Duke.

VB hits shots on Lance then Vincent running back elbows him. VB jumping knees him, legsweeps him and corkscrew kicks him. Vincent throws VB into the steps outside. Vincent does a backdrop variation to him and Dutch legdrops VB.

Duch uppercuts VB. Dutch lariats him then hits a mean running forearm. Jones hits shots on Dutch then dropkicks him. Jones catches Vincent's top rope crossbody then Lance facekicks Jones over. Vincent hits a top rope swanton on Jones for 2. Dutch black hole slams Duke and Vincent hits orange sunshine on Jones to win.

Thoughts:
It was a squash but the jobbers did get some offense in here. The jobbers all had a good showing and it was nice to see a little heavyweight action here for a change.

Lance hits blackout on VB after.

Taya Valkyrie vs Trish Adora

Trish yells 'hoo rah" and Taya tells her to shut up. Taya forearms her off the handshake and hits chops. Trish throws her down by the arm and hits chops. Trish pulls Taya's arms back and splits on her. Taya slides out and is dropkicked through the ropes. Trish bangs Taya's head off the apron then Taya returns the favor. Trish gets her head banged off the steps.

Taya hits high kicks on Trish then meteora's her in the corner. Taya pulls Trish's arms back. Trish armdrags her and Taya lariats her for 2. Trish hits forearms then crossbodies her. Trish corner splashes her then suplexes her for 2.

Taya gets on her back and chinlocks her. Taya armdrags her and curbstomps her to win.

Thoughts: The finish didn't work at all and it was just not a real interesting match. The pace was slow and it was submission focused.

Leyla Hirsch is interviewed. She said Diamante has pushed her to her limit every time but she beat her. every time. She says Dia can't beat her. Dia comes in. She says no one remembers her beating her. Dia says she was beaten in a wrestling match and not a fight. Leyla challenges her to a no holds barred match.

ROH Women's TV Title Proving Ground Match - Billie Starkz (c) vs Angelica Risk

BS pretends she can't see her since she's so much shorter. They shake hands and pieface each other. BS chokes her with both hands then running facekicks her. BS corner forearms her then hits facewash kicks.

BS slaps her and hits boots in the corner. BS drops her onto the apron. Risk hits punches and is thrown into the rails. BS basement dropkicks her against the rails.

BS slaps her around and does Red Velvet's stirring taunt. BS misses on the ropes, Risk slaps her around and meteora's her on the ropes. BS spinning high kicks her then taps her out with a hammerlock + fish hook.

Thoughts:
It was basically a squash. Risk didn't get a lot in as usual but made what she did get in count.

ROH World Title - Mark Briscoe (c) vs Kyle Fletcher

This is Mark's first ROH TV match in a while.

They argue over a handshake and Kyle boots his hand away.  Mark gets his crane kick blocked and he armdrags him. Mark side headlocks him. Mark shoulders and chops him then is shouldered over. The ytrade shots and Kyle superkicks him. Kyle takes a palm strike on the buckles then Mark tope con hilos him through the ropes. Mark then puts a fan's hat on outside.

Mark is kicked off the apron then Kyle backdrops him on the apron. Kyle PK's him. Mark is thrown over the rails. Kyle suplexes him on the floor. Kyle running back elbows him.

Mark starts to hulk up and they trade forearms. Mark uppercuts him and flying forearms him. Mark corner lariats him then fisherman busters him for 2. Mark pele kicks him and is kicked while on the buckles. Mark fisherman superplexes him.

Kyle superkicks him on the apron and Mark big boots him. Mark elbow drops him onto the floor. Kyle gets his knees up on a top rope elbow drop. Kyle spinning tombstones him for 2. Kyle leg lariats him on the ropes and superkicks him. Mark rolling death valley drivers him then hits a top rope elbow drop for 2.

Mark forearms him then Kyle flying knees him. Kyle hits superkicks then is lariated. Mark hits a jay driller and wins it.

Thoughts: It had the usual Kyle Fletcher big match issues with too many kickouts and limited selling. I really though the top rope elbow drop would have been enough to end this one but it kept going. I'm really not sure what the point of this was. Kyle just got a big main event win over Lee Johnson and follows it up with a loss to Mark.

Overall thoughts: It was your usual flawed ROH show. There were no real storylines going on here and nothing was really built for the future. We still have no idea what Athena's health status is and nobody really seems to care that the Women's Title may not be defended for a year. ROH/AEW still hasn't figured out whether The Dark Order are heels or faces either. The main had the usual issues Kyle Fletcher has in longer matches with him doing too much and not selling much. I wouldn't recommend this one.

TNA Impact 6/27/2024

TNA Impact 6/27/2024

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/06/tna-impact-6202024.html

Gia Miller interviews Jordynne Grace in the ring. She says Ash by Elegance has been watching her since she got here, trying to get her attention. Grace says she signed a contract for a title match with Ash tonight.

George Iceman comes out and says to hold on. George says there will be a match and it won't take place tonight. It'll take place at Slammiversary. He says Ash will take a vacation until then. George says they brought security to bring her out of there because she's violent and unpredictable. Ash tells security to go get her. Grace beats up and throws out security.

Masha Slamovich vs Xia Brookside

Masha stares down Grace as she enters. Masha side headlocks her then Xia side headlocks her. Masha wristlocks her. Xia kips up out of it and side headlock takeovers her. Xia headscissoers her out of the corner and dropkicks her. Xia monkey flips her.

Alisha Edwards is with Masha and trips Xia. Masha lariats Xia against the ropes. Masha snapmares Xia then PK's her for 2. Alisha pulls on Xia's hair then Masha suplexes Xia. Masha hits short arm lariats for 2.

Xia hits lariats then flying headscissors her. Xia meteora's her from behind in the corner and neckbreakers her. Xia step up knees her. Alisha gets on the apron and gets hit then Masha northern lights bombs her for the win.

Thoughts: It was just average. There was nothing too special or noteworthy here.

First Class talk in the back with DJ Whoo Kid. AJ says he's the TNA Digital Media champ now. AJ says he bought the International Heavyweight Title from Gino Brito. AJ says he's declaring himself the International Heavyweight champ as he owns and bought the title.

Thoughts: This was a dumb angle here. Few people know that belt or Gino and buying it doesn't exactly lead to legitimacy.

Jody Threat, Dani Luna and Lars talk in the back. Lars says the work doesn't stop here since they won, now they double down. Lars says this is where they play the mind games and overcome. Lars says they will face each other in a final test. He says to bring the violence to each other.

Champagne Singh brings out Mustafa Ali. Ali says a video appeared at Against All Odds with rumors, slander and propaganda. He said it was made to smear his good name. Hes says the video was fake news and AI generated. He says Chicago is #1 and says a lot of those things are crime related, but we are #1. He talks about new challengers for the X-Division.

The crowd chants "We Want Speedball" and Ali says no we do not. He says a group of fans here are trolls and tells security to get them out. Security grabs them and one of them throws a drink at ali. Ali then goes after the planted fan, pulling him over the rails and hitting him. Ali pounds on the planted fan then Mike Bailey comes out and beats up on Ali.

Security tries to separate them and does for a bit then Ali goes after Mike. Mike grabs the title and holds it up at him. Ali said Mike ruined his homecoming and he will ruin his. He then challenges him to a title match at Slammiversary.

Mike Bailey says Ali's campaign is falling apart and we are seeing the real Ali. He said letting him hold the title and giving him a title match at home were mistakes.

ABC vs Jake Something and Cody Deaner vs The Rascalz

Deaner says Santino is excited him and Jake are back in the tag division. Deaner says he was told if they win, it puts them in line for a tag title shot. Deaner says it's not their choice though, it's the people's choice. Wentz gets on the mic and says Chicago sucks. Trey asks why would they deserve a #1 contendership since they lost the last time they were together. Trey says they have another choice and that's for the ref to raise The Rascalz' hands. Bey says there's another choice - they shut up and ABC starts the match right now. Bey then tope con hilos The Rascalz.

We go to PiP break and return. Trey knees Deaner in the back and rakes his eyes with his boots. Deaner hits shots on The Rascalz then takes an indian deathlock + baseball slide. Ace lariats Bey then 2nd rope diving bulldogs Wentz. Wentz russian legsweeps and legdrops Trey.

Bey spinning forearms Wentz. The Rascalz hit corner attacks and Wentz is thrown into leg lariats in the corner. Wentz lays on Trey's knees and takes a double stomp. Jake chops Trey and somehow it counts as a tag. Jake running shoulderblocks everyone over. Jake sitout powerbombs Ace for 2. Wentz crossbodies Jake over the top. Jake lands on his feet. Jake catches a tiger feint from Trey and throws him at Wentz. Ace handstands on the apron and is thrown at The Rascalz.

Bey is thrown into a cutter on Deaner and Ace hits the fold on Deaner to win.

Thoughts: The pre-match build-up for this didn't make much sense. The match was wild though with Jake throwing everyone around and the action being fast paced.

The system and JDC do a promo. Alisha says they will always be the TNA champs. Eddie says The System will always prevail. Brian says their run will never end and they are the most dominant faction. Moose says he's not worried about the Slammiversary match though says the one loose cannon may be a problem. He says JDC will take care of that person and says they will show the world why you always trust The System.

Sami Callihan talks about what Slammiversary means. He says he's at his best there. Steve Maclin says the most eyes are on TNA at Slammiversary. Sami says Steve's one of the best wrestlers but he ain't him. He says it won't be a wrestling match, it will be a fight. Steve says Sami's not the same Sami's he used to be.

Road to Slammiversary Qualifier - Sami Callihan vs Steve Maclin

Steve busaiku knees him then misses a splash. Sami hits a piledriver for 2. Steve hits forearms then lariats him. Steve is side-stepped on a tope. Steve busaiku knees him then 2nd rope headbutts him for 2.

Sami is sent into the post then Steve elbow drops him off the apron. Steve is explodered on the floor. Steve uranage backbreakers him inside. Sami rolls on him on a backdrop attempt then Sami corner exploders him. They fight on the buckles and Sami 2nd rope death valley drivers him. Sami short piledrivers him for 2. They fight on the apron and Sami hits headbutts. Steve busaiku knees him and double underhook ddt's him on the ropes to win.

Thoughts: It went long, was a little slow and I thought they did way too much here with Steve surviving a 2nd rope death valley driver.

Alan Angels vs KUSHIDA

Kushida jumps off the top when AA goes after him. Kus flying crossbodies him then throws him out. Kush is still wearing his jacket and kicks him in the arm. Kush is stunnered over the top rope and AA dropkicks him off the ropes.

AA neckbreakers him then back elbows him. Kush hits kicks then is dropkicked on a handspring attempt. AA plancha's outside and is caught in an armbar. Kush bulldogs him down by the arm outside. AA springboards and is caught with a punch for 2. Kush kimura's him and AA taps out.

Thoughts: It was a decent match here with Kush focusing on the arm and eventually submitting him with a kimura.

Jonathan Gresham attacks Kush after. JG tries to put ink in Kush's mouth and security backs him off.

Reby, Matt and Jeff Hardy do a promo. Matt says it'll be him and Reby vs Alisha and Eddie Edwards at the PPV. Reby says Alisha will learn that this b!tch is back.

Rich Swann and Nic Nemeth talk about Slammiversary. Nic talks about how big it is. Rich says the importance of the qualifiers can't be put into words. Rich says Nic is spreading himself too thin. Rich says he's first class and will be on dat @ss. Nic says Rich is a former world champ and knows what it takes to be there. Nic says he's somewhat new to TNA but not new to being a champ. Rich says he's taking the first class flight and will be treated as first class. Nic says it'll be one of the best matches we have ever seen. Nic says he came to TNA to become world champ.

Road to Slammiversary Qualifier - Rich Swann vs Nic Nemeth

Nick pulls on the arm and chin then hammerlocks him. Rich kips up and down then dropkicks him. Rich then gyrates. Nic takes down Rich then chinlocks him. Nic hits armdrags and a dropkick then gyrates.

They take each other down and Rich wristlocks him. Nic hits a russian legsweep for 2 and Swann gets gin and juice from DJ Whoo Kid. AJ trips Nic then slams a drink can off of his head. AJ goes to punch Nic and is caught then ejected by the ref.

We go to break and return. Nic headbutts him and is eye raked. Rich buzzsaw kicks him. Nic hits flying clotheslines and a flying splash. Nic neckbreakers him then hits elbow drops.

Rich flying lariats him for 2. Rich buckle bombs Nic then takes a fameasser after a missed spear. Nic grounded sleepers him. Rich flying kicks him for 2. Nic gets his knees up on a splash from the buckles. Rich handspring cutters him for 2.

They trade shots. Nic headbutts him and Swann high kicks him. They trade superkicks and Nic hits a jumping ddt. Nic then hits a danger zone off of it and wins.

Thoughts: I didn't think it was that good. They didn't sell much by the end of it and there was no major story or anything here.

Overall thoughts: It was a wrestling heavy show and I wasn't that interested in it. I thought they did too much in Sami/Maclin match and the match wasn't that great. The 3-way tag was maybe the best thing on here and Kushida's match was okay. It was just an average show overall like TNA shows tend to be.

WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/16/1991

WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/16/1991

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/06/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-291991.html

Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/07/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-2231991.html

Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper welcome us to the show and push tonight's tag team battle royale. Piper says it'll be tutti fruity, they'll be slipping and sliding and he'll hear them knocking but they can't come in.

Tito Santana vs Ted Oates

They trade wristlocks and they say Tito could be one of the only people to be all of the Wrestlemania's so far. Ted shoulders him over then Tito hiptosses him. Tito slams and dropkicks him.

Tito does an inset promo. He says he's ready for Wrestlemania and has wrestled in every one. He says he's ready to compete. Ted hits some shots in the corner then lariats Tito over. Ted back elbows Tito then snapmares him. Piper says he will be in Virgil's corner at Wrestlemania VII. Tito hits shots and back body drops Ted. Tito hits a flying forearm and wins.

Thoughts: It was a short but mostly even here. Ted had real basic offense but all of it looked good. I liked this one.

We see clips from Wrestling Challenge. Piper and Virgil are interviewed by Mean Gene on the stage. Piper says the P in his name stood for poverty and other things. He says there's a difference between being a friend and a fool. He says he hates bullies. They do an example and show Piper shining Virgil's shoes after he asked nicely. Piper says it's a pleasure to do it because he's his friend.

Piper makes him say to kiss his feet. Piper says to stick it in your nose. Piper tells him to slap him and he does. Piper then tells him to wipe his feet in mean fashion and Virgil says no. Piper then slaps him and tells him to do it again. Virgil says no again. Piper goes off on race and says he is a pure man. Virgil says he won't wipe his boots and Piper says now he gets the idea. Piper has him spell "man" and has him to talk to Ted. Virgil says you spell man, "V-I-R-G-I-L". Piper says guess who is coming to dinner to Ted.

Thoughts:
Kind of juvenile and Sesame Street esque here but it was the 90's and it was marketed to kids. The point got across well enough.

The Mountie vs Sonny Blaze

Vince calls Mountie "Dudley Do-Right" and Piper says Mounties are used for "passive crowd control". Mountie dropkicks him to start then bangs SB's head off the buckles. Jimmy Hart and The Mountie do a promo. Mountie says when there's a problem that can't be solved, they call him. Hart says he always gets his man on the inset then says it live right after.

Mountie puts him in an iron claw. Mounted throws him down with a double chokeslam. Mountie trap holds him and taps him out.

Thoughts: It wasn't good. Mountie's offense looked weak and SB giving up to a trap hold was lame.

Mountie handcuffs SB after and shocks him with the shockstick.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

Sean hypes up Wrestlemania VII and runs down the card. The British Bulldog does a promo. He says him and Warlord will be part of Mania. He says if Warlord thinks he can get a full-nelson his shoulders, then take your best shot. He says he will get the victory through the powerslam.

Rick Martel talks about the blindfold match with Jake Roberts. He says he doesn't like the match but he doesn't have fear. He says he has never been in blindness like Jake but says Jake will fear another night of it, like a kid who is afraid to touch fire after getting burned.

#1 Contenders Battle Royale

No intros here for any of the teams. This starts off before Fink can say their names. If one member of the team is eliminated, the entire team is eliminated. There's no real organization going on early with everyone splitting off.

The Rockers take double gorilla presses form Demolition and grab onto each other to escape. Crush takes a double superkick then Smash takes a double dropkick out. Demolition is eliminated but fights with Marty before he leaves. Bushwhacker Luke takes a kick from Tanaka and is sent out by Kato. The Bushwhackers are eliminated.

Knobbs is double teamed by The Rockers. Shawn tries to dropkicks Knobbs but gets Marty instead and eliminates him. The Rockers are eliminated. Hawk 2nd rope elbows Saggs. Hawk is pounded on by Roma and Tanaka then Roma nails Tanaka.

Piper calls Knobbs "Nags" and Kato eye rakes Hawk. Hawk back body drops Kato over the top to eliminate him then Animal gorilla presses Tanaka out onto Kato. The Orient Express are eliminated. Roma goes under the bottom rope, Animal follows and throws him back in.

The LOD are both double teamed. Herc rocket launchers Roma onto Animal. Animal catches him and throws him over the top to eliminate him. Hawk double clotheslines The Nasty Boys. Hawk goes up top for a doomsday device. Roma trips Hawk on the top and sends him out of the ring. The LOD are eliminated and The Nasty Boys win.

Thoughts: It was a shorter one here. We really only had two or three high spots in this one. They didn't make the most they could out of it but at least they set up a Power and Glory vs Legion of Doom feud here.

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney says The Nasty Boys will get a shot at the tag titles at Wrestlemania VII. Mr. Perfect and Bobby Heenan do a promo. Heenan dares Boss to take care of Perfect. Perfect asks if Boss' plan is to wipe out The Family 1v1. Perfect says the dead end street starts here. He says they've had it with him and says he will be Perfect against him.

The Big Boss Man talks. He says Heenan is just another man and says the way to destroy him is to destroy every man in his family. He says the next man on his list is Mr. Perfect. He says it will come down to him and Perfect. He says he will always deal out hard times.

The Texas Tornado vs Darryl Woodworth

Kerry slaps and pushes him. Kerry knocks him out of the ring. DW hits some knees to the gut. Kerry hits punches and discus punches him. Kerry then picks up the win.

Thoughts:
It wasn't good. Kerry looked off-balance here and it was over before it really got going.

The Brother Love Show

The Undertaker is the guest and is already on stage. Love says Taker requires love 24 hours a day. Love says he's a little too busy to give him the love he deserves. He then introduces "Brother Bearer", who will guide the career of The Undertaker.

Love asks Bearer what his first name is and he says, "Paul". Love says what better name to guide the career of The Undertaker with than Paul Bearer. Love says he has a vision. He says he sees Savage beating Warrior and ending his career. He says as the casket goes into the ground, Paul says may Warrior rest in peace.

Thoughts: Brother Love and The Undertaker weren't exactly the most natural combo and Taker making the switch wasn't that surprising. Love sure struck at the plate on that deal though, giving away one of the best wrestlers ever. Paul didn't wear white powder make-up here and looked really different but he fit Taker a lot better.

The Wrestlemania Report

Gene says we are five weeks away from Mania. They officially announce Virgil vs Ted Dibiase and The Hart Foundation vs The Nasty Boys for the tag titles.

Sgt. Slaughter said he proved to Hulk that he does what he wants to do. He says he's the new leader here. He says if Hulk doesn't have it all in the ring, he will become Sarge's POW. He says they may call him "The Immortal Slime" when he is done with him. Adnan talks in his language. Sarge says they will destroy The Hulkster and that's an order.

Hulk Hogan does a promo. Hulk says the only thing more dangerous than nerve gas going up in your sinuses is the power of Hulkamania. He says Sarge didn't realize the mission he was on when he hit him with a chair. He said the chair shot from Sarge affected him as much as a scud missile in the sea. Hulk says men and women are putting their lives on the line in the Persian Gulf. He says his Hulkster's don't understand that Sarge is being protected by the same people who are fighting against Saddam. He says Sarge will fall victim to the rule book when he plays by no rules.

We see rare clips from Madison Square Garden. Jimmy Hart nails Greg Valentine with a guitar on accident and this sets up Greg Valentine vs Earthquake at Wrestlemania VII (Greg already had basically turned face by Royal Rumble 1991 though). Texas Tornado fights Dino Bravo at Wrestlemania VII.

The Macho King Randy Savage and Sensational Sherri do a promo. Sherri has no make-up on and just normal clothes and Macho does not have his crown on. Macho says the big Macho King in the sky is smiling at The Macho King. He says he's too hot to handle and too cold to hold. He says he will take Warrior's career in Los Angeles and there's nothing Warrior can do about it.

The Ultimate Warrior does a promo. Warrior tells Macho that now is not to the time for Macho to look for the missing pieces of The Kingdom of Madness. Warrior says one of the pieces is missing and that's the piece of crystal in his skull. Warrior said he told the doctors to sew it in. He says the crystal shows the memories of what Macho was and will be. He says Mania is real life and no video game. He says he will pull the plug and end his career.

Thoughts: This was a good promo by Warrior but if Macho is now just Macho Man and not Macho King, they didn't explain it anywhere.

Gene says Regis Philbin and George Steinbrenner will be at Mania.

We see Mean Gene at Toys R' Us in front of WWF toys. He says we can great WWF merchandise there and shows off various items. He says will get free autographs with various purchases. The Legion of Doom walk in. Gene says words like Perfect, Sensational, Weasel and Crush and The LOD get up in his face. Hawk then says what a rush and Gene says he will see us at Toys R Us.

Rick Martel vs Tommy Landell

Jake Roberts does an inset promo. Jake says he has dealt with a blindfold and says Rick is looking for sympathy from the devil. Jake says to turn out the lights as the party is over.

Rick backs up Tom in the corner and hits knees and various shots. Rick goes up and over then hiptosses him. Rick slams him and poses. Ric hits Tom in the gut then gutwrench suplexes him. Ric backbreakers him then taps him out with a boston crab.

Thoughts: It was a quick one with Rick having good looking offense. I liked Jake's promo here.

Rick Martel goes to spray Tom with Arrogance and someone in a mask and a vest beats up Martel. This was Brutus Beefcake and he'll do this for a few more weeks before it stops.

We get a video of someone blowing fire with dragon sounds and red smoke. That's Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney talks about Mania. Jimmy Hart and Dino Bravo do a promo. Dino says when the pressure is on, he's at his best. He tells Texas Tornado to fight for his life and come prepared as the winds will blow in his favor. Greg Valentine does a promo. He says this is the 7th Mania for him. He says he faces Earthquake. He says he's in the greatest shape of his career and will take out Earthquake.

Vince runs down next week's card with Virgil vs Haku. Vince says we could get insight as to what happens at Mania. Piper says his buddy Virgil will fight Haku and says he will be in his corner. He says "Guess whose coming to dinner?" to Ted.

Overall thoughts:
This was one of the better shows lately as we got a tag team battle royale, a short but decent Tito match and 3 new characters in Paul Bearer, Ricky Steamboat and Brutus Beefcake's Man with No Name gimmick. Brother Love also officially relinquished his managerial duties of The Undertaker over to Paul Bearer. It wasn't great or anything but I liked it and Paul Bearer's entrance in the WWF would end up being an important part of WWF lore.

WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/9/1991

WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/9/1991

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/06/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-221991.html

Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/06/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-2161991.html

Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper are our hosts. We're six weeks away from Wrestlemania VII. They talk about the Savage vs Warrior career vs career match. Piper says it's for Americans by Americans. Tugboat faces Earthquake tonight and we see them warming up.

Tugboat vs Earthquake

We know Tugboat will become Typhoon at some point. I'm thinking this is it. No, I don't want to know if it's not. Tug boots and side headlocks him. They shoulder battle and Quake poses. Quake side headlocks him and they ram shoulders. Quake running lariats him.

Quake footchokes him and headbutts him in the chest. Quake jumping kicks him and clubs his back. Quake running lariats him. Quake hits headbutts and takes a corner splash. Tug running lariats him, getting him caught in the ropes.

Jimmy Hart gets on the apron and Tug grabs him. Quake hits Tug with the megaphone right in front of the ref and is DQ'd.

Quake hits elbow drops and a butt drop after.

Thoughts: What we got made sense but it wasn't super exciting. The finish was lame here but that's early 1990's WWF.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect talk. Heenan says there's a lot of trouble in The Heenan Family. He says they parked the car and girls jumped in then girls came in through the back door at a hotel. Perfect says he's a champ and says everyone in the WWF wants to be one. He says he has the ability, knowledge and looks to be champ. He says he is Perfect.

Rick Martel talks in French and says we aren't as intelligent as he is to speak two languages. He tells Jake Roberts to stay away from him as he had a taste of what he could do. Rick says it could be more dangerous and says 1991 could be a dark year for him.

The Nasty Boys vs Mike Williams and Reno Riggins

Jimmy is in Nasty Boys attire with a motorcycle helmet and The Nasties no longer have the rapping over their song. Piper calls The Nasties "Scaggs and Norbert".

Knobbs hits forearms on Reno then clubs on him. Saggs kicks Reno in the arm and hammerlocks him. The Nasties do a promo. They say they are here and say to get ready to be nastizisized. Jimmy says they are nasty as they want to be and they want to be real nasty.

Knobbs hits a running jumping single-arm ddt on Reno. Knobbs stomps Reno. Saggs pump handle slams Reno for 2. Knobbs elbow drops Mike. Mike's head is banged off the buckles then Knobbs hits a nice corner splash. Knobbs powerlsmas Mike then Saggs top rope elbow drops Mike to win.

Thoughts: The Nasty's dominated this one as expected. They were fine with their rough style and moved well here.

Knobbs says they want to be tag champs after and Jimmy says, "as nasty as they wanna be".

WWF Update with Mean Gene Okerlund

Gene talks about the rumors of Macho vs Warrior career vs career. Gene calls it a bizarre clash.

Macho King and Sherri do a promo. Macho says Warrior made a big mistake and must accept hte consequences. Macho says Warrior lives in his shadow. He says Warrior was a champ but isn't anymore. He says he's the champ forever and the greatest champ. Macho says it's a bumpy, bumpy road to LA. He says he won't be denied and says Warrior lives in his shadow. He says Warrior's career is little compared to his. He says he's the Macho King.

The Ultimate Warrior does a promo. He says Macho knew the plan all along that he had created. Warrior says there lies a piece of both of them in the WWF Title. He said he asked him to find the madness he once controlled. He says Macho found the madness and he's the wildness. He says he's the one who will end his career.

Thoughts: Warrior was really toned down here and a lot easier to understand than usual.

The Warlord vs Tom King

War clubs Tom's back then flying shoulders him. War gutwrench suplexes him. Slick tells him to go in for the kill. War backbreakers him then hits a hard lariat. War then full-nelsons hi mfor the win.

Thoughts:
It was the usual squash with Warlord's opponent getting nothing in.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

Kerry Von Erich says he's gunning for Ted Dibiase and Mr. Perfect. He says Perfect isn't so perfect as he pinned him. He says Dibiase cost him the title so he's coming for him first. He says he will give him something money can't buy - a good ol' fashioned Texas butt kicking.

Mr. Fuji and Demolition do a promo. Fuji says his men train hard. Smash says they started out hating Fuji's workouts, but they did it because of The Legion of Doom and The Rockers. He says the only way you can win is to hurt people and that's their objective.

Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs Tony Burton

Tony wristlocks him and shoulders him over. Jake hiptosses him and knee lifts him. Tony hiptosses him then Jake hits a nice punch. Jake hits a nice short arm clothesline. Jake then hits the ddt and wins.

Jake puts Damien on Tony after.

Thoughts: It was another short squash but at least Tony got a couple of things in.

The Brother Love Show

Love basically says he predicted Sgt. Slaughter would be champ and brings him out. General Adnan talks in his language. Sarge said he made a pledge to all of us and said he would become champ. Sarge says it doesn't matter how he become champ as he is champ. He says some think his ways are too cruel. He says we are playing under new rules now, Sgt. Slaughter's rules. Sarge says Hulk is next on his list to be destroyed. He says he will be champ for a life and says that's an order.

The Wrestlemania Report

Gene says it's his favorite time of year. We see Hulk visiting military bases. Hulk Hogan does a promo. Hulk says he got real serious when he saw how Sarge treated his opponents. Hulk said Sarge's chair shot on him was like a scud missile. He says he will beat him, put him on his harley and bury him under a tank in a bunker. He says the Hulk missile will be shot out by an F-14. He says ashes to ashes, dust to dust, now that Hogan's the champ, it's The Hulkster and God we still trust, brother.

Mean Gene says Rick Martel didn't read the fine print on his Wrestlemania contract as it will be a Blindfold match vs Jake Roberts (this was just announced here). Rick Martel does a promo. He says it's not fair and isn't happy about being in a blindfold match. He says he doesn't like it a bit and will fight back.

The Undertaker vs Jimmy Snuka and The Big Boss Man vs Mr. Perfect are also set.

The Big Boss Man said he beat up every Heenan family member including Heenan. He says he will take the only thing Heenan has left - The Intercontinental Title.

The British Bulldog vs The Warlord is also set. Gene says there will be an instant replay debate at Wrestlemania VII and says Willie Nelson will sing, "America The Beautiful".

"The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase vs Len Wagner

Ted avoids a charge by Len and still has his entrance gear on. Ted lariats Len then back elbows him. Ted hits another lariat then million dollar dream's him for the quick win.

Thoughts: This was so quick that Ted didn't even bother taking off his entrance gear.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

Sean says Ted has no one left to watch his back with Virgil gone. Power and Glory do a promo. Herc says there's not a second you won't find them in a gym somewhere. They say their goal is to be tag champs. Slick says they are not respected but cannot get total respect until they get the tag titles.

The Big Boss Man does a promo. He says he made a vow to stand tall for law and order in justice. He says his handcuffs and stick are instruments of justice. He says Heenan and his family are on top of the most wanted list. He says it's a bottomless line of people who need to be dealt with. He says he's the man who is big and bad enough to do it.

Next week has a rare tag team battle royale.

The Hart Foundation talk. They say the battle royale is because it's the only way that they can figure out who challenges them at Mania. Bret says they are the best there is, ever was and ever will be.

Overall thoughts: I haven't been a big fan of this show so far in 1991. The jobbers haven't been getting much in at all and the squashes have all been super short. There hasn't been a lot of angles either and when you get down to it, there's just not a lot of substance to this show. I really wouldn't recommend this one as the only real things that went down were announcements for Wrestlemania VII.

WWE Main Event 6/26/2024

WWE Main Event 6/26/2024

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/06/wwe-main-event-6192024.html

Akira Tozawa vs Joaquin Wilde

Both are wearing baby blue here. This is their first ever singles match which isn't too shocking since they've rarely ever been in the same promotion or brand. Toz rolls out of a wristlock and side headlocks him. Toz shoulders him over. Wilde rolls and trips him then spinning headscissors him from the mat. Wilde seated springboards off the buckles and armdrags Toz over.

Wilde twisting elbow drops him. Toz 2nd rope diving hurricanrana's him and dropkicks him. Wilde headscissors him over the top rope then springboard dropkicks him. Wilde topes him then snap suplexes him for 2.

Toz rolls him up and Wilde knees him in the gut. Toz is popped up and hurricanrana's him. Toz shining wizards him then top rope dropkicks him for 2. Wilde rolls him into a pin attempt then kicks him in the gut. Wilde facebusters him then flying armbars him. Wilde ddt's him.

Toz spin kicks him then corkscrew kicks him. Toz top rope sentons him and gets the win.

Thoughts: Wow, Tozawa picks up a win for a change. It was an athletic juniors match as expected. There was nothing wrong with this one here and both guys looked good.

The Authors of Pain vs The Creed Brothers

Both of these teams deserve better than this. They fought on 5/20 and 5/27 with both being shorter matches. This may end up being the last Creed's match as faces as they are supposed to team with Gable, but who knows.

JC trades with Akam. Akam hit shots on the ropes then Akam running knees JC. Razar elbows JC in the back of the head then knee chokes him on the ropes. JC holds Razar for a top rope double axe handle from BC. BC hits forearms on Razar then Razar takes knees from both opponents. Razar takes a double gutbuster and is lariated over the top rope by JC. Akam is pulled out as well and JC plancha's both AOP outside.

We go to break and return. Razar hits a high one-arm spinebuster on JC. Razar hits hammerfist shots. Razar punches JC. JC fights out of the corner then takes a side slam + 2nd rope legdrop combo for 2. Akam hammerfists JC.

Akam knee chokes JC on the ropes. Akam back elbows him then Razar grinds his heel into JC's gut. Razar short arm lariats JC. JC step up enzugiri's Akam. BC gets in and hits shots on both AOP. BC does a nice northern lights suplex on Akam. BC standing moonsaults BC.

JC is thrown out then Akam slams him. BC takes a neckbreaker + sitout powerbomb as expected.

Thoughts: Like last time, it was just a short sample of what these guys can do. They sometimes let people do a little more than usual on Main Event, but they haven't been granted that luxury. What we got was okay but it wasn't anything you really need to see.

Overall thoughts: There were only two new matches as usual. Both were fine and something for hardcore fans but neither were must see.
