Southern States Wrestling 3/2/2024 Legacy Episode 58

Southern States Wrestling 3/2/2024 Legacy Episode 58

Note - Episode 57 didn't have any new matches so I skipped it.

Joe Wheeler interviews CJ Knight who is facing Lawrence tonight. CJ says it's the opportunity of a lifetime. He says he's ready to prove that he can hang with Lawrence and the best.

Lawrence is interviewed. He stares down the interviewer, Jonathan Darwin. He grabs him, Darwin gets nervous and Lawrence leaves without saying anything.

SSW Legacy Title - "The Fixer" Lawrence (c) vs CJ Knight

L = Lawrence

They lock up and L side headlocks him. CJ gets out and wristlocks him. L throws him off and misses a corner splash. CJ hits forearms and is pushed hard back. CJ hits leg kicks then is lariated. L hits the garvin stomp then foot chokes him.

L slams CJ then elbow drops him. L leg chokes him over the ropes then leg lariats him there. L airplane spins him then slams him off of it for 2. L hits a stiff elbow to the head then twists his head. L pounds on him and hits stiff chops on the ropes.

L hip attacks him in the corner. CJ is put on the buckles and has his 2nd rope crossbody caught. L swinging side slams him for 2. CJ gets a clothesline and flying forearm in. CJ step up enzugiri's him for 2. CJ flying knees him for 2.

CJ 2nd rope crossbodies him for 2. CJ misses a dropkick. L hits a big splash and wins it.

Thoughts:
I liked this one. Lawrence was real good here as the powerhouse and worked over CJ well.

Joe Wheeler interviews Lawrence, Lord Murphy, Jeff Murphy and Mike Mann. Murphy says the king is dead and said he did what he said he would do against Beau James. He said Beau tried to impose his will on him and make it as difficult as possible. He said we will never have to worry about him again. Murphy says to be careful if you want to take a shot at him as he has deep pockets. Joe says this whole situation will be looked at by the board of directors and said there will be some surprises.

We see some clips of Marty Clay in action vs various opponents including Lawrence.

Jonathan Darwin interviews PD Hogg. He's facing Alex Adkins and Trey Chaos. He says they are two young guys and will show them what a real man is like in the ring.

Joe Wheeler interviews Alex Adkins. Alex is returning tonight. He said he's been out for a year and is here to prove why he belongs in SSW.

Jonathan Darwin interviews Trey Chaos and Serenity. Serenity says they took a vacation. They trained and strategized and Trey finally learned how to listen. He says it'll be the Trey way tonight and says he's going all the way to the top.

PD Hogg vs Alex Adkins vs Trey Chaos

Trey is huge and just dwarfs everyone. Alex is the son of a wrestler named Wayne Adkins. Alex is double teamed to start. He shoves both guys then PD splashes him in the corner. Trey running back elbows him in the corner. PD charges at Alex but Trey turns on him with a lariat. Alex hits punches on Trey. Trey neckbreakers him then PD lariats Trey.

PD chops Trey down then steps on his chest. Alex suplexes PD for 2. Alex hits a big chop on PD then takes a knee from Trey. Trey running euros PD. Alex forearms Trey then flying shoulders him. PD slams Alex then hits a legdrop for 2. Trey kicks Alex in the head for 2.

PD hits shots on Trey then clubs him. PD lariats Trey then Alex superkicks PD. Alex is caught up top. Trey snapmares PD then 2nd rope dropkicks him. Alex breaks up the pin attempt with a 2nd rope swanton bomb. Serenity gets on the apron as PD spinebusters Alex. PD argues with Serenity. Trey barely hits his big boot and pins him. Trey things he has it won and the announcer thinks so too then Alex rolls up Trey and wins it.

Thoughts:
Things were going okay until the finish. I don't know what happened here as Trey was announced as the winner then Alex pinned him.. Trey also missed his big boot finisher and PD had to sell it anyway which made it worse.

Overall thoughts: I liked the first match but the second match had a double botched finish that ruined the match. It wasn't a bad half-hour of wrestling but I wouldn't quite recommend it.

Southern States Wrestling 2/19/2024 Legacy Episode 56

Southern States Wrestling 2/19/2024 Legacy Episode 56

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/southern-states-wrestling-2102024.html

Wild Bill vs Mike Mann

They say Bill is popular with the fans and they can relate to him. Mann is from Charlotte and was trained by George South. They shoulder battle and Mike misses a flying shoulder. Bill hits him in the corner then Mike slaps him. Mike hits knees to the gut and Bill lariats him. Bill hits a nice legdrop and bangs his butt into his gut from the waistlock.

Bill legdrops Mike's arm then Mike lariats him out of the corner. Bill legdrops Mike and steps on him. Mike armlocks him and tries to headbutt him but hurts himself off of it. Bill headbutts him back and hits punches. Mike eye rakes him then bulldogs him. Mike armlocks him again and Bill rope breaks.

Bill double axe handles him then corner splashes him. Lawrence gets on the apron and Mike clips Bill. Mike then pins Bill with his feet on the ropes to win it.

It wasn't too bad but obviously the dirty finish wasn't the most exciting. Bill did an okay job here.

Wayne Adkins is interviewed about Mike Mann. Wayne said Mike cost him the title at the last show and said they go a long way back. Wayne said he showed up at the wrong time but said he will make it the right time at the next show.

We get a music video for Handsome Beau James set to "I Like To Hurt People".

Beau James is interviewed and asked about his non-sanctioned, lights out match with Lord Murphy Costigan at the 33rd Anniversary Show. He said the lights out, non-sanctioned match means we had to sign papers and means no one will be held accountable for the injuries in this one. Beau says it goes until no one can get up and it's a fight to the finish. He said we celebrate him and his family, those that aren't with us and the Hall of Fame class at the 33rd Anniversary Show. Beau said he's a kid from a small town in Tennessee who was fighting people like The Mongolian Stomper and Ivan Koloff at age 15. He said he got stretched and humiliated but could knock them down at age 20.

He tells Lord Murphy Costigan he's not always been the nicest guy. He says Murphy is stronger, younger and faster but said his eyes have looked across the ring at greatness. He said when he hit him with his fist, they all went down. He said he put Robert Fuller with ether and even set Murphy on fire. He said Murphy is the SSW champ and said he's not proud how Murphy has kept the belt. He said Murphy has always gotten help. He said he told the refs to stick their thumbs in the eyes of anyone trying to get in the during their match. He said he will prove his point or Murphy will kill him trying. He said he will find out why he is called The Terror from Tennessee and The King. He said if it takes hurting him and taking out of the sport, that's will he will do. He says Lord forgive him for what he's about to do to him.

This was a strong promo that you want to see that match.

Lord Murphy Costigan is interviewed. LMC said Beau James has been after him since Day 1. He said he has dominated the SSW scene and is a two-time champ. He said Beau talks about legends he beat but he's forgetting that his heart punch almost stopped Beau's heart. LMC said he looked up the angels for help and they won't help him at the 33rd Anniversary Show. LMC said Beau will find out why he's called The Royal Rogue and The Bruiser from Glasglow. He said Beau's dream is to go out in a blaze of glory. LMC said his end won't come in glory, he will be laying on his back in the ring. He said he will be on his own without a soul to help him. LMC then says he will say "The King is dead". This was also a good promo.

The Faction (Jeff Conley and Jeff Baker) are interviewed about the tag team tournament. Baker says to bring all the challengers. He said he's ready to take his fanny pack off and put a title here. Conley says The Faction is here to dominate SSW.

Drake Chaos and his girlfriend are interviewed. Drake's girlfriend said if he had shut his mouth and opened his ears, he wouldn't have been pinned. Drake said he did listen and his girlfriend said obviously not. Drake asks "What do I do next?".

Overall thoughts: There was only one match this week and it was acceptable. However, there were two really good promos that followed it that hyped up the 33rd Anniversary Show. Those carried the show and made this worth checking out. I think this show accomplished it's goal in hyping up the 33rd Anniversary Show.

Southern States Wrestling 2/10/2024 Legacy Episode 55

Southern States Wrestling 2/10/2024 Legacy Episode 55

Lawrence is given a new Legacy belt by the announcer. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to hear any of it due to acoustics. Lawrence just walks away after.

SSW Legacy Title - Lawrence (c) vs Wild Bill

Both guys are fully dressed here and are over 300lbs. They run at each other and trade shots. Bill rams his back into him in the corner. Lawrence hits some shots then eye rakes him. Lawrence hits corner spears then forearms. Bill hits back with shots to the gut and head.

Bill misses a corner splash then Lawrence does forearms and chops. Bill hits back elbows then shots to the gut. Bill hits a big suplex for 2 then legdrops him. Lawrence jawbreakers him and ddt's him. Lawrence hits downward elbows then elbow drops him.

Lawrence sits on his neck over the 2nd rope then hits a big slam. Lawrence hits a 2nd rope fist drop for 2. Lawrence boots him then does some kind of chin holds on it. Lawrence throws him backwards and clubs his back. Bill hits a belly to belly suplex, basically just rolling to the side for it. Lawrence grabs a weapon out of shirt then punches Bill with it for 2. Bill then clotheslines him with his rope and whips him with it. Bill gets disqualified.

This wasn't good. Both guys are pretty heavy and can't move that well. Their strikes and offense didn't look that good either. They did some decent bumps though.

We see clips of a Wayne Adkins match from last week. Adkins runs into the ref off a leapfrog. Jeff Baker and Mike Mann come down and Mike lariats Wayne. Wayne then gets pinned.

Mike Mann is interviewed. He said he met Wayne Adkins 3 years ago and he's been running from him. He said he had to chase him down during a match to get his hands on him. He says Wayne is one of the worst people in this world. He says he's not a man and will give him the beating he should have given 3 years ago.

The announcer Beau James says Wayne will get even with Mike Mann on 2/24 at the 33rd Anniversary Show. He then says he wants to get even with Lord Murphy Costigan at the event in a lights out, non-sanctioned match. He said he will try to beat some sense into him then. They announce Bam Bam and Danny, The Christian Brothers, will go into the Southern States Wrestling Hall of Fame. We then see clips of The Christian Brothers.

CJ Knight is interviewed. Jeff Baker comes down and interrupts it Jeff Conley. Jeff said it doesn't matter what the fans want. Wayne Adkins then comes down and the 2 parties argue. They set up a match for next time. It was impossible to hear most of this due to sound issues.

Wayne Adkins and CJ Knight vs The Faction (Jeff Baker and Jeff Conley)

Conley is hiptossed by Wayne then Baker is hiptossed and armdragged by Wayne. Baker takes a double back elbow. CJ hits back elbows on Baker but ends up getting knocked over. CJ crossbodies Baker and Baker doesn't budge.

CJ shoulders over Conley. Baker does an atomic drop on CJ then splashes him for 2. Baker backdrops CJ then slams him. Conley dances then elbow drops CJ.

Conley hits a nice lariat on Baker. Baker chops and kicks CJ then splashes him for 2. CJ is pulled back by the hair then CJ takes a double hiptoss. Conley cranks CJ's neck.

Wayne gets the hot tag in and beats up both opponents. Wayne hits corner punches then CJ gets in and hits punches too. Lord Murphy Costigan comes in and beats up CJ and Wayne, causing a disqualification.

The idea was there but the execution always wasn't. CJ's too green right now to really be out there and Wayne had to carry most of the load.

Wayne Adkins is interviewed after. He says him and Mike Mann are going at it one more time. He said it's not about titles, it's about settling scores.

Overall thoughts: It was a rough show with audio issues and less than stellar in-ring work. The booking made sense though. I wouldn't recommend this one.
