WWF Superstars of Wrestling 9/21/1991
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/01/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-9141991.html
We are in Rochester, NY. Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper are our hosts. Vince says Jack Tunney denied reinstating Macho Man. Vince says Macho destroyed Jack's office for it. Piper defends it and asks what would Vince have done if Jake ruined his wedding? Piper says he would have done the same thing and said Macho won't quit until the gets the job done.
Sid Justice vs Kato
Kato hits shots on Sid in the corner. Sid hits some punches. Sid flying shoulders Kato in the corner then hits a nice chokeslam. Jake Roberts, Paul Bearer and The Undertaker do an inset promo. Jake says Sid is big but dumb and behaving like a tourist - he doesn't know which way to go or where to turn. He says that's not a good thing to do when you are around people like them.
Sid kicks Kato in the ribs then drops him throat first on the rails. Sid hits boots to the gut. Sid then hits a powerbomb and wins.
Thoughts: This wasn't exactly a face-style squash. He beat the crap out of Kato en route to an easy victory. Sid's chokeslam was nice.
WWF Update
Gene talks about Macho Man Randy Savage destroying Jack Tunney's office after not being reinstated. Gene then interviews Macho outside on a bench. Macho says he's thankful for the support from the fans. He says Miss Elizabeth is feeling better each day. He asks Liz if she needs help with something but she says she's fine.
Macho says Tunney stonewalled him. He says he owes him an apology but asks Gene what would anyone else do if they were in the same predicament? He says Liz is emotionally scarred and asks when that goes away. He says it was supposed to be the greatest day of their lives. He says he's thankful Sid Justice was there to stop Jake and Taker. He says he's frustrated he can't do anything about this. He says maybe he can't do anything about it but maybe Sid Justice can. He says that's all he can hope for.
Big Bully Busick vs Phil Apollo
Bully takes popcorn from a fan and then dumps it on her. Harvey Wippleman then laughs about it.
Bully boots and clubs on Phil. Bully and Harvey do an inset promo. Harvey says he's afraid of no man and can back up what he says. Bully bangs Phil's head off the buckles. Bully clubs on him then knees him in the gut.
Bully stomps on Phil then does like a slingshot atomic drop variation. Bully sits on Phil's neck, pulls his legs up and submits him.
Thoughts: It was a quick one and wasn't that impressive. I did pop for Bully pouring popcorn on the kid's head though. Harvey's a good heel manager too that is unlikable in every way.
We see Virgil with kids. He said he had a dream and worked hard for it. He tells the kids to work hard and says their dreams will come true. He tells the kids to rub the million dollar belt.
Jimmy Snuka vs Mike Willliams
They lock up and Mike backs up Snuka on the ropes. Mike side headlocks him. They run into each other. Snuka lariats Mike over and hits a shot. Mike's head is banged off the buckles and Snuka punches him. Snuka hits a headbutt. Snuka goes up and over in the corner on a missed charge from Mike and rolls him up. Snuka gets the win.
Thoughts: It was short and not good. Mike and Snuka weren't really on the same page here and neither impressed. Mike looked like Owen Hart.
WWF Event Center
Sean Mooney talks about Snuka and the Savage meeting with Tunney. The Natural Disasters and Jimmy Hart do a promo. Hart says it's beginning of the end for LOD. Typhoon says there's nowhere to hide or to prevent the inevitable. Quake says LOD fulfilled their dream of winning the tag titles. He says they face their end now in The Disasters.
Bret Hart does a promo. He says two lions are facing off in the serengeti and says only one is left - him. He says things will only get tougher and he says the animals in the jungle. He says you won't get passed the excellence of execution.
Ted Dibiase vs Mike Durham
Ted nails Mike from behind and pounds on him. Mike looks like a smaller Brian Knobbs. He takes a back body drop then takes a hard lariat. Ted says Virgil's days are numbered.
Ted suplexes Mike then fist drops him. Ted throws Mike out and tells Virgil to pay attention. Mike's head is banged off the steps. Ted 2nd rope double axe handles him. Ted powerslams him then puts him to sleep with the million dollar dream.
Thoughts: I liked this one. Ted was aggressive here and his offense looked like it hurt.
Ted puts money in Mike's mouth after.
WWF Event Center
Ricky Steamboat does a promo. He says his fans stand behind him and his fire he breathes is for real. He says as the smoke clears, Skinner emerges. He says Skinner wants one more reptile skin to add to his trophy case and it's his. Ricky says to beware of his fire.
IRS does a promo. He says he told everyone he was here to clean the WWF up. He says he found The Big Boss Man is one of the biggest tax cheats in the WWF. He says Boss doesn't claim his jail bribes. He says if you don't claim your fair share, you go down to IRS.
The British Bulldog vs Chris Duffy
Davey shoves Chris over. Chris side headlocks him and they shoulder battle. Davey backbreakers him then armdrags him. Davey slingshots Chris out of the ring. Davey does an inset promo. He says he's looking forward to The European Rampage Tour but will be back.
Chris clubs on Davey. Chris takes a nice back body drop. Davey suplexes Chris then chinlocks him. Davey hits a nice running powerslam and gets the win.
Thoughts: Chris is one of the better jobbers and did a good job here as he bumped big for Davey. Davey let him get a little in like he usually does.
The Funeral Parlor
Paul Bearer brings out Ric Flair and Bobby Heenan. This is Ric's first appearance on Superstars. Heenan tells Piper the real world champ Ric Flair is here. Ric says Piper has to deal with the real world champ like everyone else. Ric says it's light out when he sees Piper.
Ric says he has called Hogan's name for years. He says if you have the money, he has the time. He calls Hulk Thunderlips and says he was winning world titles while he was in Hollywood. He said he paid the price to be the real world champ. Ric says there's a thousand women that love him and says he's the real world champ.
The Big Boss Man vs Dwayne Evans
Evans has an unusual haricut and is knocked down with a punch. Boss facekicks him. Boss headbutts Evans down then hits a sidewalk slam. Boss then wins.
Thoughts: It was a short squash with Evans getting nothing in before being beaten.
Boss then handcuffs Evans to the ropes like a good face (not).
The Beverly Brothers (Beau and Blake Beverly) vs Scott Keller and Sonny Blaze
The Genius does a poem saying his team is unable to be beat and says the brothers are coming to vanquish your dreams.
Blake takes down Blaze then bangs his head off the mat. Blake hits a belly to belly suplex. Macho Man returns to commentary next week. Blaze is bridged on the ropes and Beau comes off the top with a double axe handle. Blake throws in Scott and tells him not to mess with the family. Blake hits a double underhook suplex.
Scott is dropped on the ropes throat first. Scott then takes a shaker heights spike and is pinned.
Thoughts: The Bev's looked good as usual with some high and effortless suplexes. Thankfully their finish was safer than usual.
WWF Event Center
Jimmy Hart and The Mountie do a promo. Hart says Summerslam was a travesty of justice but they don't get mad, they get even. Mountie talks about the effects of being handcuffed. He says he's being and says we are about to see the bad side of The Mountie.
The Legion of Doom do a promo. They said the beat Demolition and Power and Glory. They say they the told The Nasty's they would beat them and they did. Hawk says they fear no evil as the evil ran quick. He says The Nasty's will run from them to save themselves.
Vince and Piper talk about next week's show which will have Ric Flair in action and Macho on commentary.
Overall thoughts: It was hyped up to be a little more than it was. I liked The Bulldog squash and the Dibiase squash. As usual, this was all squash matches with no star vs star matches and that was only so exciting. Ric Flair appeared and talked live for the first time and Sid had his first match on Superstars. It was the usual Superstars show for the most part and nothing must see.
