AEW Tournament of Champions 2nd Round - Jon Moxley vs Sammy Guevara

Sammy stalls to start and Mox headlock takeovers him. Tay is not out there with Sammy. Sammy pounds on Mox in the corner then celebrates and is lariated for it. They trade chops and Mox lays down and does Sammy's pose during it. Mox is pushed out of the ring then Sammy flip topes him and hits a tornillo over the top on him. Sammy then puts him into the steps and kicks him against the steps. Sammy then curbstomps him into the steps and we go to PiP break.

We return and they are on the apron. Mox hits a headlock driver on the apron on Sammy. Sammy somehow beats the count in and Mox hits corner clotheslines. Mox rakes his back and bites him up top then hits a single butterfly suplex from the top. Sammy crabs him and has half his butt showing then does a double springboard cutter. Mox gets him in a bulldog choke then elbow flurries him. Sammy standing spanish flies him off a lariat attempt. Sammy goes up top and takes a top rope release german then Anna Jay and Tay Conti come out.

Anna gets on the apron then Tay sneaks in and kicks Mox in the crotch. Sammy rolls up Mox for 2 then misses a swanton from the top. Mox rolls him up for 2 and Sammy hits forearms. Mox slaps him and forearms him and takes a jumping knee and superkick. Mox gets out of the GTH then beats Sammy with the paradigm shift.

They did way too much here with top rope germans and apron moves and I was not a fan of this.

We are told MJF is making a scene in the back but we go to break instead of finding out what's going on.

We return from break and MJF comes out with a mic. He said he hadn't slept all week and said Mox had the look of a guy with no fear which got him mad. MJF said he was "not playing a character" and said Mox was for walking around all tough. MJF called the fans "White trash", which I find offensive since he isn't White. MJF said he was still a scared little boy but now is old enough to drown his sorrows in alcohol. MJF said bad things happen when people get in his way and told him to skip the Arthur Ashe stadium show. He said it was his title. MJF said he is a demon Mox can't slay.

MJF brings out Stokeley Hathaway and the new stable. He says Stokeley is his best friend. Stokeley said the new stable is on retainer and said they are MJF's support system. He said they will go their seperate ways when MJF doesn't need them. Stokeley said he isn't a manager, assistant or publisher, just a friend of MJF. Stokeley said everything he has done so far was fake and talked about his love of blackmail.

He said he loves W. Morrissey. He said it's time Lee Moriarty becomes a star and brings honor to the ROH Pure title. He said the Gunns are not boys but men. He said they want to become tag champs, want to be taken seriously and want to be out of their dad's shadow. He said Ethan Page wants to represent Canada and win the All-Atlantic title. He said they are "The Firm" and said you have two options - run with us or run from us.

I wasn't a fan of this one. They didn't explain well why these people want to be MJF's lackeys and its a weird group of different types of people.

We see Jungle Boy talking from earlier. He said he signed an open contract for a match on Dynamite. We then see Dutt, Lethal and Singh talking. Dutt mocks them and said JB needs to pick better best friends than Luchasaurus. Dutt calls him a stupid boy and this was pretty weak.

Jungle Boy vs Jay Lethal

They trade forearms early and JB walks up the buckles, flips off the ropes and armdrags Jay. He then dropkicks him. Jay is rolled up off a figure four attempt and JB blocks a dragon screw. Jay is knocked off the apron then Singh gets in the way of JB's dive attempt. JB goes up top and takes a side slam over the top rope.

We go to PiP break and return. JB is thrown hard into the buckles then flips Jay with a hard lariat. They fight on their knees and JB gets the advantage. Jay goes for lethal injection and is flipped with another lariat then takes a brainbuster for 2. Jay 2nd rope russian legsweeps him for 2. Jay hits a lethal combination then topes him. Jay top rope elbows him for 2. JB puts him in the snare trap and Dutt gets on the apron. He is knocked off and Jay rolls up JB for 2. JB puts him in another snare trap and wins it.

They did too much here again and it wasn't anything too special.

We see clips of Action Bronson and Hook training. Action says this is New York City right here and says no more games.

Luigi Primo, a pizza maker wrestler gimmick, is interviewed and facekicked by Ethan Page. Danhausen walks in and I think Page challenges him, calling him a jester. Another comedy guy is totally what AEW needs.

We see clips of Darby Allin at the Nitro Circus. He drives a bike up a ramp into a wall then flips over it on the 2nd try onto a ramp. Look, if Darby was my wrestler, he would not be doing that dangerous stuff.

Matt Hardy does a promo after saying Darby continues to raise the bar doing extreme things. Matt said he is on his way back up to the top so he is challenging Darby.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs Matt DiMartino

Hobbs gets the advantage early and spinebusters him to win in seconds in a total squash.

Hobbs gets the mic after. His mouth is bleeding. He said he beat Ricky Starks at the PPV and says he is tough. He said it only took 4:35 for him to beat him and said the chapter is closed on Starks. He said it is time to open a new chapter in the Book of Hobbs and said it starts tonight. Starks is seen walking down the steps in the crowd then goes after him with punches. Starks hit him with a microphone and Hobs goes out of the ring.

Death Triangle does a promo. Pac says the time is now and then the Lucha Bros say they will be double champions tonight.

AEW Tag Titles - Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee vs The Lucha Brothers

 

Swerve does a handstand and is kicked. Penta step up enzugiri's him then Fenix rolls in and kicks Swerve. The Lucha Bros do a double team into a splash on Swerve. Fenix and Swerve are both on the 2nd rope and Swerve hurricanrana's him off of it. Lee and Fenix trade chops for forearms and Lee double chops him. We then go to PiP break.

We return and Swerve was armdragged and hook kicked by Fenix. Penta sling blades Swerve then up and over backcrackers him. He sling blades Lee. Lee catches Fenix's tope and Lee throws Fenix into Penta's pin attempt. Swerve hits a nice punch on Penta then Lee shoulders him over. Lee catches Fenix off the top and backbreakers him. Lee headbutts Penta. Fenix top rope spanish fly's Swerve then Penta hits a canadian destroyer on Lee off of Fenix's back...of course for only 2. Fenix is pushed off the top then Lee hits Penta with a death valley driver into a splash for the win.

They did too much here but they matched up better than I had expected.

The Acclaimed came out after. Max says he will beat Lee if he ever interrupts his rap again. Max tells Swerve to roll Lee to NYC so The Acclaimed can become tag champs. Bowens says they look like Drake and Josh.

They try to interview Death Triangle. Pac takes offense to their loss being called "a bump in the road". Pac says they are the trios champs and Pac says he is the first ever double champion. Pac tells him to mind his own business then Orange Cassidy knocks out Pac with a punch for some reason. OC says Pac will not be champion for long. Why is OC knocking out Pac?

Toni Storm and Athena do a promo. Toni says Britt took out Shida. Athena says they will do this for Shida tonight. Toni says Jaymie Hayter has seen that Britt is useless and says Britt won't enjoy the match tonight.

Serena Deeb and Britt Baker vs Toni Storm and Athena

Deeb takes Toni down by the arm. They trade headscissors and do a faceoff. Debb hits chops on her in the corner then Toni does it back to her. Toni bangs Deeb's head off the buckles then Athena slingshot splashes Deeb. Athena shotgun dropkicks Deeb then forward cartwheels into a punch. Athen gets clipped in the knee and we go to PiP break.

We return and both girls tag out. Toni gets a hot tag and shotgun dropkicks Britt. Britt is pulled out and Toni tornado ddt's him off the apron. Britt slingblades Toni. Athena and Deeb trade shots. Athena springboards but is caught with an armbar. Athena meteora's Deeb then Deeb rolls through Toni's stop rope crossbody. Deeb single leg crabs Toni. Athena tries to break it up and is superkicked by Britt. Athena is thrown into the steps. Toni gets thrown into a chair Britt was holding and Deeb picks up the win over toni.

This wasn't the worst thing the girls ever did, but it had a messy and botched finish and was no classic.

Athena attacks after and Britt superkicks her. Britt curbstomps Athena. Britt goes for a chair shot after. Jaymie Hayter comes down, takes the chair and chairs Toni. Jaymie and Britt still end up arguing though and Jaymie leaves.

Woods, Nese and Sterling do a promo. Nese accuses Wardlow of using a cheapshot headlock and Sterling is mad that Wardlow tried to powerbomb him. Sterling said he is happy about Woods vs Joe for the ROH TV title on Rampage and said finally they can get the TV representation that ROH needs.

AEW Tournament of Champions 2nd Round - Bryan Danielson vs Chris Jericho

Bryan hits chops and kicks to start then flying dropkicks him in the corner. They trade chops and Bryan flying dropkicks him again. Bryan throws Jericho over the top then dropkicks him through the ropes. Bryan then running knees him off the apron. Jericho has his shoulder put into the post then Bryan top rope dropkicks him. Bryan top rope headbutts him for 2 then drops knees on Jericho's shoulder.

Bryan fujiwara armbars him then hits kicks as he is on his knees. Bryan is german suplexed off a missed buzzsaw kick then Jericho springboard dropkicks him off the apron. Jericho then comes off the 2nd side rope and dives on Bryan outside. Jericho slaps Bryan and is slapped back then they trade chops.  They collide in mid-air with crossbodies and we go to PiP break.

We return and Bryan gets stuck on the top rope. Jericho hits punches on him up there then top rope hurricanrana's him. Bryan germans him off a missed judas effect. Danielson elbow flurries him. Jericho then does it to him. They trade chops and Jericho codebreakers him. Bryan comes back with a busaiku knee. They trade more chops and Bryan is suplexed off the apron and lands hard on his feet on the floor. The dcoctor checks on Bryan and Jericho pushes him aside. He bangs his foot off the floor and pulls off his boot. Bryan then has his leg banged off the post.

Jericho figure fours Bryan around the post then works the knee more. Jericho puts him in a boston crab. Jericho turns it into a single leg crab. Jericho figure fours him and they punch each other in the figure four. Bryan puts him in the yes lock and gets the win.

The shoulder work was emphasized early then forgotten about until the end of the match. Jericho worked the knee for most of the match in-between chops and forearms. It was a good match but had Danielson worked just a little more on the shoulder, it would have been better.

Mox comes down after. They stare down then shake hands.

Overall thoughts: The main was good but the rest of this had people doing way too much in almost every match.
