WWE NXT UK 3/25/2021
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/03/wwe-nxt-uk-3182021.html
We got off to a weird start with this one. Some WWE pages were saying this was happening at 3PM, but I could not find it on Peacock until 4PM. I know for some people saw this at 3PM, but maybe they were British?
We start off with Supernova Sessions with Trent Sevens. Noam Dar calls him a failure multiple times and Trent has bruises on his face. Dar said he is a legend but hasn't had a title shot and didn't like Sevens getting one. Dar calls him an outsider which gets Sevens mad. Sha Samuels then comes in. He said you have a problem with Dar, you have a problem with him. Trent challenged them to a tag match in two weeks with Tyler Bate as his partner. They agree and Dar asks to play his music, but Sevens takes over and says to play his music instead.
They announce Sam Gradwell vs Ilja Dragunov in a no dq match tonight which should be good.
The sub-GM Sid Scala speaks with Jinny and Joseph Conners. He said Jinny and Piper will be banned from ringside for tonight's match. Jinny isn't happy and calls him a little boy.
They talk about Walter vs Rampage Brown in two weeks. There's a problem with that. Walter vs Ciampa for the UK Title is the day before that show. They either are spoiling that Ciampa doesn't win or are being lazy and not updating the graphic. Walter defending twice in two days is also a little unfair to him.
Fit Finlay, Robbie Brookside, Dave Taylor and William Regal put over Rampage Brown vs Walter in a package. Don't like Brown's odds on that one.
Jack Starz vs Joseph Conners
This is happening after the mixed tag match two weeks ago that had a bogus finish also when Piper should have been DQ'd but wasn't. They do some basic stuff early and Conners misses an elbow. Jack comes back with some forearms and dropkicks Conners out before hitting a plancha on him.
Starz hits a crossbody for 2 from the top. Starz has JC in the corner but JC double stomps him down. JC then hits a backbreaker. Starz lays down on his stomach and JC rolls over top of him and pulls his neck back. We go to a break and return. JC nails him with a lariat. Starz hits a suplex and comes back with strikes. Starz does something like an exploder or a fallaway slam for 2. Starz goes for a backslide but JC rolls back to turn it into a ddt. JC then nails him with a straightjacket neckbreaker to win.
I liked this one. JC did some nice trash talking, Starz is a really likeable underdog and their work had a little touch of hatred in it.
Pretty Deadly does a promo in the back. They said next week is the first of their many successful title defenses and this is the era of Pretty Deadly. They said Jordan and Williams are not them and they show off their side plates on their title. This was a fine little promo giving them a chance to show some personality.
Starz runs into Piper in the back. He apologizes. Piper says don't apologize and says she has lost many matches. Piper said lets get back to training tomorrow and he'll be back on track soon. She said they would figure this out and they hug. This was a sweet little vignette.
Josh Morrell and Danny Jones vs The Hunt (Primate and T-Bone) with Eddie Dennis
I like this team. Jones and Morrell are two of the younger and more underrated guys on the roster. This is the debut of the new Hunt with Primate and T-Bone. Wild Boar was removed from the team for costing them the match against Andrews and Webster. In actuality, Boar is injured. I hope we see the original Hunt back together as they are one of my favorite teams.
Josh gets beaten up by T-Bone to start and is thrown by his head. Primate picks up Josh and throws him overhead. We go to a break and return without missing anything. T-Bone then does a great throw on Josh. T-Bone backdrops Jones.
Jones takes a big back body drop from Primate. Jones takes a double body slam and he counters a Primate suplex into a backcracker. Josh comes in and flips out of a powerbomb, then does a 450 flip over Primate off the 2nd rope. He hits a dropkick then a standing corkscrew moonsault for 2. Primate hits a stiff back elbow for 2. T-Bone fallaway slams Josh for 2. Josh gets thrown over the top and ends up spinning during the throw and takes a hard fall. I've never seen that bump done before.
Jones gets tagged in and hits a nicedropkick on Primate on the apron. T-Bone hits a big knee to the face on him and a running powerslam. Primate then hits a diving headbutt and wins it. This was good. Not exactly the squash it should have been with a new team debuting, but it was a nice showing for Jones and Morrell.
Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams are practicing in the ring. They said Pretty Deadly will face a new Jordan and Willaims and they will dance all over the studio when they win.
Aleah James vs Isla Dawn
James hits a nice dropkick early and takes a high kick. Dawn hits a pump knee to a downed James the mounts and pounds her. Dawn hits a hard backdrop/Saito suplex. James gets whipped into the ropes and springboards off with a nice dropkick. James then does a springboard crossbody. Dawn grabs her in a wheelbarrow position and dumps her throat first on the top rope. She then hits a nice punch combo.
Dawn hits another Saito suplex and a great dragon suplex for the win. Good squash here with both girls getting a chance to show off a little.
Nina Samuels is in the back. She said her time is up for being a servant. Nina thinks it is up but Xia says a few minutes are left. Xia asks her to clean the men's bathroom. Nina gets a pepr towel stuck in her hair somehow.
Isla Dawn is doing weird stuff in the back. Kay Lee Ray walks past her and said if she had been so aggressive like this in the beginning, maybe she would be in her position. The video then changes colors and spins and we see an image of Dawn playing with her tarot cards. I don't know how any of that can possibly be explained and it was sci-fi garbage.
No Disqualification - Sam Gradwell vs Ilja Dragunov
Sam throws his jacket on Ilja during his entrance and pounds on him while he is blinded. Sam then hits a nasty sto on Ilja's head. Ilja hits a great flying forward kick. Sam tries to grab chairs outside and takes a running forearm smash.
Drag gets whipped into the ropes, does a tiger feint and then a nice spinning clothesline. Ilja hits a coast to coast dropkick. He runs outside to charge at Sam and takes a hard shot with the ring bell. Sam whips him with a cable, choke him with it then whiplashes him down to the floor while it's in his mouth.
Sam hits some chair shots to the gut and suplexes him on the chair. Sam takes off the turnbuckle pad. They go up top and Sam gets dropped body first. Sam throws a turnbuckle pad at Ilja's face while he is up top then hits a spinning forearm that Ilja takes a major bump into the barricades for. Ilja then hits a big lariat on Sam against the apron.
Ilja grabs the steps and Sam begs for mercy. Sam says he is sorry then grabs a chair. Ilja limbos out of a chair shot and enzugiri's him then german suplexes him on the floor. Ilja chops Sam in the back of the neck and Sam begs for mercy again. He then kicks him in the shin and hits an F-U to him on the steps. Ilja does some awesome screaming in pain for that.
Sam sets up a pile of chairs. Ilja hits a nice knee lift to the face and Sam goes into the exposed turnbuckle. Ilja goes for a top rope senton and misses, landing onto the chairs. Sam chops away at Ilja and makes him spaz out. Ilja then takes him down ont othe chairs. Ilja hits a nasty soccer kick to the head and hits some hard chair shots to the back. Drag then does weird suplex on the chairs on Sam and pounds away on him until the ref stops it.
This was a very good match. Both guys did exactly what you would expect them to here and this was vicious. Drag's bump onto the barricades was great, Sam's begging off was great and Drag's selling was very good here.
Overall thoughts: Another good edition of NXT UK. The main was great, Starz/Conners was good and even the squashes were fun.
