WWE NXT 6/15/2021

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/06/wwe-nxt-682021.html

Opening segment with Regal, Samoa Joe and Karrion Kross

Kross was being a total heel here. It wasn't exactly clear to me what Samoa Joe is doing after listening to this multiple times. It seems like he is some kind of special enforcer for Regal or bodyguard? I still liked the segment overall though.

Breezango vs Imperium

There was a hilarious spot here where Breeze botched and went splat on the floor after a dive. The announcers then said "Breezango is on a roll" as Breeeze was clearly out of it for a while. Breeze ended up stealing the pin here out of nowhere to win then BZ got beat up after. Aichner hit Breeze with a nice facekick then Breeze's head hit hard after a doomsday device european uppercut. Imperium buried Breeze under their flag after. One would think they will get a whooping from Walter for this like Alexander Wolfe did.

Cole and O'Reilly were fighting in the back and it had to be broken up by security and Regal. Uh, isn't that why Joe is here? Regal said he thought this was settled with the unsanctioned match they had. He said he would let them fight to work out their anger at the Great American Bash. Joe then came in and stopped the fight and choked out Cole. I didn't like this segment at all. Cole looked weak getting choked out by Joe and Joe looked weak by not being there in time.

Santos Escobar does a promo. He complained about Reed putting him through a wall. He said he is coming for Reed one on one to become North American champ. This was an okay promo.

Trey Baxter does a promo. We are told he is turning heads at the performance center. He says he is all heart and the most innovative high flyer. He says his nickname is "all-heart". He has a bad as he is thin and small and kind of looks like Buddy Murphy's cousin. His name isn't very good and it's hard to see him getting past 205 Live.

NXT Cruiserweight Title - Open Challenge - Kushida (c) vs Trey Baxter

Baxter hit a nice phosbury flop here. Kyle O'Reilly came out to watch this. Baxter also hit a standing spanish fly and a handspring into a twisting enzugiri, then a springboard 450. Kushida hammerlock dropped him from the top then won with a hoverboard lock. Trey did a couple of good high flying moves and it wasn't bad but I don't know if that's going to be enough right now. Kushida shook hands with Trey then Kyle came in after clapping for him. I'm not a fan of people losing on their debut.

Kyle challenged Kushida after since they both want to fight the best.

Franky Monet was interviewed. She said next week we will have an encore performance of her world premier. She then talked to Aliyah and Jessi Kamea. They all talked bad about Robert Stone then Stone came in and Mpnet lied about what they were talking about. Kamea and Alliyah played along.

Mercedez Martinez is show watching herself get beaten up by Mae Ying. she says she is the wrong person to next week

Million Dollar Championship Coronation

Ted Dibiase brought out LA Knight. LA talked about how much he liked Ted as a kid and how much this means to him. He said it would be the honor of his life to be officially crowned million dollar champ. Ted gave him the title and they had some fireworks sparklers as they did the Dibiase laugh. Knight then said he had everything that he wanted and now it's time to drop what he doesn't need, and he nailed Dibiase. He told Ted the belt was Ted's but is now his then beat him up more. Cameron Grimes then came out and made the save. This was a great segment that cemented Grimes' face turn and helped put LA Knight over too.

Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai were interviewed. They said they have unfinished business with the women's tag team champs and they want those belts.

Shotzi and Ember were beind held back by Joe, Regal and a ref from Kai and RG as they wanted to attack them.

Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez vs Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro

I have below 0 interest in this. Kai took a stiff double kick early. Kacy did a really nice version of the silly string here and, then a backflip into a headscissors and a twisting plancha. Carter then got help from Kacy to walk up the ropes and dive on the girls. Carter held up Kai for a neckbreaker then Kacy 450'd her and RG did a fallaway slam onto Carter into the boards. Kai ended up winning this with a bad fireman's carry into a double knee that barely hit.

This went too long but Kacy looked really good here and it was a good effort by the faces.

Hit Row destroyed some toy doghouse Ever-Rise had. They complained about it and rebuilt the house into a giant mess. This was just dumb and silly stuff.

Io Shirai came out. she said she is back. Candice LaRae interrupted her. She said Io goes back to the bottom of the line now LaRae is champ. Indi Hartwell then attacked Io from behind. They tried to put Io through a table but Zoey Stark came out and stopped it and Io cleared them off with a springboard dropkick.

Regal and Joe were interviewed as they were leaving and we cut away as Regal went to talk in a bad mess-up.

Ciampa and Thatcher ran into MSK in the back. Thatcher stole the popcorn they were eating.

We got a vignette for the Diamond Mine who they say are coming next week.

Regal and Joe were re-interviewed. Gargano and Theory interrupted. Gagano said Regal lost all control before Joe. Joe then told Gargano to get out. Pete Dunne came in and he went face to face with Joe.

Tornado Tag Team Match - The Grizzled Young Vets vs Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher

The Vets went to talk and were attacked as they tried.

This was a fun match. They did too much but it was a frenzy and they were aggressive all throughout. One of the Vets took a air raid crash on the announcer's table, Thatcher took a powerbomb/backcracker combo and Ciampa took a tope + doomsday device combo on the floor. The crowd was hot for this.

Regal and Joe were out in the parking lot again. Regal was asked about Joe's performance tonight. Regal said things would be a bit different here and both seemed pleased even though there was a bunch of chaos as usual.

Overall thoughts: In-ring it was a good show but there were a lot of issues outside of the ring. Chaos continued backstage yet Joe and Regal acted like things had changed. The Knight/Grimes/Dibiase segment was very good. I'm still not a fan of debuts where people lose though and the Ever-Rise segment was dumb.
