Matt Striker Released
Matt Striker was released from his WWE contract today. He has been serving as a backstage interviewer and as a co-host on Superstars.
My thoughts:
Matt Striker has had an interesting run on commentary in the WWE. He went from being good to being awful then to evening out to be good again. His best stuff was probably when he was on NXT, as I remember really enjoying his commentary then. However, when he moved to the main brands and PPV's, he got really bad. He would routinely make up absolutely stupid and unbelievable stories that really brought down his credibility. He wasn't doing commentary for a while after that but when he got put on WWE Superstars, he wasn't bad. His main faults were ripping on his co-hosts while his strengths were trying to come up with stories for wrestlers and providing unique "smark" wrestling knowledge. I'd probably rank him in the top half of WWE announcers, but it should be mentioned that most of the WWE announcers are not very good.
In summation, I don't think it was huge loss for the WWE but I'd rather listen to him than Tony Dawson, Tom Phillips and others. Hopefully, he saved up his money and has other jobs lined up.
Did you hear Cabana got the tryout two days ago to be a color commentator?
ReplyDeleteJust imagine the team of JBL and Colt on commentary :D
I didn't hear that but it is interesting. Hopefully, it would mean the return of him to the WWE ring as well since he is definitely on level.
