WWF The Main Event IV 11/23/1990

WWF The Main Event IV 11/23/1990

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Ted Dibiase. Gene talks about some of Ted's bad deeds over the years. Ted says it's all about the bottom line and says his wrestling ability tops his money. He says money isn't everything, it's the only thing and everybody has a price for The Million Dollar Man.

Sean Mooney interviews The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior says all the money in the world can't buy what it takes to be a champ. He says dollars don't buy desire and bankrolls don't buy biceps. He says the power of money doesn't flow through his veins, its the power of his warriors. Warrior says sacrifice is the bottom line and asks what Ted is willing to give up. He asks how much is the WWF Title really worth it to him.

Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper welcome us to the show. Piper is eating turkey and says he will look like Roseanne Barr if he eats any more. Vince says we have special diet tips and an extra helping of WWF action.

WWF Title - The Ultimate Warrior (c) vs Ted Dibiase

Vince says Warrior's like a runaway locomotive when he gets going. They lock up and Ted is shoved hard back into the buckles. Warriors throws him down with the arm. Ted clubs on Warrior and hits chops. Warrior running lariats him then lariats him over the top to the floor. Ted and Virgil's heads are banged together then banged off the apron.

Warrior top rope double axe handles Ted. Warrior hits chops. Ted gets a knee up in the corner and lariats Warrior. Ted 2nd rope double axe handles Warrior then piledrivers him. Warrior back body drops Ted. He shoulders him over. Warrior is tripped by Virgil then Ted lariats Warrior over the top.

We go to break and return. Ted elbows Warrior's neck. Ted snapmares him then fist drops him. Ted headlock takeovers him and headlocks him. Ted lariats Warrior then Warrior badckslides him for 2. Ted eye rakes him then suplexes him. Warrior sunset flips him for 2 then throws him out. Warrior's head is banged off the steps and Ted clubs Warrior's chest.

Ted hits punches on Warrior but Warrior is hulking up. Warrior suplexes him. They run into each other hard with shoulders. Ted comes off the 2nd rope and is hit in the gut on the landing. Ted pounds on Warrior's back. Warrior shakes the ropes then running lariats him. Warrior flying shoulders him then Virgil runs in and beats up Warrior. The Ultimare Warrior wins via DQ.

Warrior lariats him down and gorilla presses him. Macho King Randy Savage comes down, hits Warrior in the gut with his scepter. Virgil lands on Macho. Macho hits Warrior with his scepter off the top then pushes the refs. Macho chokes Warrior and throws a ref. Officials come down and Sherri kicks Warrior several times. Macho goes up top and jumps over officials to land on Warrior.

Thoughts: It was a decent match here with a lame finish as usual from this time period. Macho doing the run-in adds a little to the Warrior/Macho feud which hadn't had the best hook up to this point (Sherri slapped Warrior and they talked trash to each other).

Warrior gets up after and Vince puts him over for showing spirit and getting to his feet.

Mean Gene interviews Macho King and Queen Sherri. He said he accepted the royal payment and said where money lies, honor dies. He says it wasn't a crime of economics though as it felt good to hit Warrior with the scepter and he would have done it for free. He says Warrior's vertebrae understand how Macho is. He said the greatest feeling of all will be when they crown Macho the WWF champ.

Sgt. Slaughter and General Adnan are interviewed by Mean Gene. Sarge says to hell with Volkoff and old glory. He says the Iraqi flag is the only flag he supports. He says what they believe in is what he believes in. He says if you want something, you just take it because nobody has got the guts to stand in your way anyway. He says the country has no guts and says where's there's no guts, there's no glory. Adnan talks in his language and Sarge says that's an order.

Sgt. Slaughter vs Nikolai Volkoff

Sarge nails Nik from behind before it starts and beats him with a riding crop. Sarge camel clutches Nik then beats him with the riding crop more. Sarge chokes Nik. Hacksaw Jim Duggan comes down to help out. Jim chases Sarge with the 2x4 and Sarge gets out of the ring.

Thoughts: The match never started here. It feels like this is the end of the Sarge/Volkoff feud and the start of Sarge/Duggan.

Mean Gene interviews The Big Boss Man. Boss said Heenan did his momma wrong and called her names. He said he will get his revenge and said no Heenan Family member will stop him from getting him. He says justice may be blind, but not when you insult his momma.

Vince tells Piper about the diet plan coming up later in the show. Piper doesn't believe that you can eat all you want and not gain weight.

The Big Boss Man vs Mr. Perfect

Bobby Heenan is not with Perfect here. Perfect slaps him then goes out. Boss chases him then pulls him down on the floor. Perfect cartwheels and is lariated. Perfect is thrown into the buckles hard. Boss drags Perfect around the ring by his hair then throws him into the post, where he gets crotched. Boss backbreakers him.

Boss misses a top rope splash. Perfect running headhunters Boss while Boss is kneeling. Perfect works Boss's back then cradles him. Boss hits him in the gut and uppercuts him. Perfect butt drops Boss's back. A turnbuckle is pulled off and Perfect's head is banged off of it. Perfect takes a huge bump for it then Boss hits uppercuts. Boss drops him with an uppercut.

Boss is thrown back first into the exposed buckle. Bobby Heenan comes down and Boss cradles Perfect for 2. Perfect hits chops and they trade. Boss hits some great punches then is eye poked. Perfect hits a perfectplex for 2.

Heenan pulls the top rope down to hurt Boss but Perfect ends up going over the top instead. Boss grabs Heenan. Heenan slaps Boss and Heenan runs for it. Boss chases him and we see Heenan slipping in the back after running. Mr. Perfect wins via countout.

Boss goes after Perfect but Perfect slides out.

Thoughts: Mr. Perfect was good as usual here, taking big time bumps. I didn't like his perfectplex being kicked out of though. Boss hit some great punches here.

Mean Gene interviews Bobby Heenan. Heenan says Gene has to help and Boss is trying to take his head off. Gene says he is a marked man. Heenan begs Gene to help him.

We see a Buddy Rose Blow Away Diet commercial. They say all you have to do is put the powder on your body then sit in front of a fan and watch the weight blow away. The number to order it is 1-500-LAR-DASS. I guess it was somewhat apart of his gimmick as he would lie about his weight but I didn't really get it outside of it being comedy.

Rick "The Model" Martel vs Tito Santana

One would think we would get Rick/Jake here since they were feuding, but nope. This is at least the second televised Rick/Tito match this year as they had a match on WWF Hottest Matches

Rick nails Tito from behind and stomps on him. Rick throws him out of the ring. Rick goes into the post after a missed charge on Tito outside. Tito bangs Rick's arm off the apron then 2nd rope double axe handles him. Rick leapfrogs and drops down but Tito just boots him.

Tito wristlocks him and armlocks him. Rick bends over and Tito cradles him for 2. Tito armlocks him. Rick snapmares him and chinlocks him. Tito hammerlocks him then is pulled into the buckles. Rick foot chokes Tito then chokes him. Tito's head is banged off the buckles. Rick side headlocks him and hits punches. Rick bangs Tito's head off the mat.

Tito hits shots to the gut. Rick backbreakers Tito. Rick is crotched up top. Tito hits a stomp and punch flurry on Rick then does a nice dropkick. Tito backbreakers him then 2nd rope lariats him for 2. Rick cradles him for 2. Rick trips Tito and puts him in the boston crab. Rick submits Tito and wins.

Thoughts: Tito was fantastic here and is continuing his run as maybe being the best wrestler in the world in 1990. He had such great fire and really was a good face. The finish was kind out of nowhere here with Rick winning without much build-up. I was surprised Jake didn't run in here.

Mean Gene interviews Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Jake says as one sense is weakened, other senses get more acute. He says Rick Martel is the one that is truly blind. He says Rick has no teammates to help him now that Survivor Series is over. He says he's out in the open for all to see. He says it will be them 1v1. He said Rick rolled the dice and they came up snake eyes.

This was a great promo by Jake and I liked him sneaking in the snake eyes phrase.

Sean Mooney interviews The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior says his title only represents the title to Macho. He says it represents the ligaments, the muscle tissue, the organs and the bong between him and the warriors. He says Macho tried to break the bond. He said he saw tears in the eyes of his Warriors. Warrior said he saw only rage though.

Piper goes wild hyping up Warrior/Macho and Vince says "so long, everybody".

Overall thoughts:
The wrestling was good here and Jake had a good promo. The finishes were mostly all dirty here and Tito was the only person beaten clean. We didn't even get Volkoff/Slaughter. They did follow some of the feuds at the time but as often is the case with these shows, some of the people involved in the main feuds didn't wrestle each other. It was okay overall but not must see.
