IN PROGRESS
Today's Card:
Tomohiro Ishii vs Satoshi Kojima
Satoshi Kojima beat Tomohiro Ishii with a lariat. Good match here but not as good as their previous matches. This was all about forems, lariats and brainbusters and it worked out well. They stiffed each other hard and Ishii took two hard DDT's and a really nice final lariat bump. Rating:***1/4
Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Toru Yano
Hiroyoshi Tenzan won with a moonsault. This wasn't good. It was Tenzan throwing bad Mongolian Chops while Yano cheated. They even brought a chair in and did a ref bump.
Katsuyori Shibata vs. Lance Archer
Shibata won with a PK. This was extremely short and disappointing. They barely went seven minutes here and didn't make the best use of their time at all. Not sure what the idea was here as this should have been good.
Tetsuya Naito vs. Shelton Benjamin
Naito won with the Stardust Press. Naito tried but it is Shelton Benjamin and there's only so much you can do. I liked his superkick bump but the bought a german near the finish and a long with a silent crowd, this wasn't good.
Karl Anderson vs. Minoru Suzuki
Minoru Suzuki won with a Gotch-Style Piledriver. Suzuki worked the arm for most of this match and took the win. Anderson didn't get much in and didn't bring much here.
Yuji Nagata vs. Kota Ibushi
Yuji Nagata won with a backdrop. Decent match. They matched up okay but it could have been better. There was very little heat so no matter what they did, it had a limit to it and that hurt it most. This was a decent effort by Nagata though and it was good to see Kota slowed down. Rating:***
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Yujiro Takahashi
Nakamura got the win with the Boma-Ye. Yujiro looked better here but his matches are just totally lifeless. They are just collections of moves and really have no flow to them at all. I liked his lariat and his tope is always good, but he needs some some passion and story telling to do more. The crowd wasn't into it and Nak didn't have a lot to work with here.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Okada won with the Rainmaker. The match was good but like everything, the crowd killed it. They didn't bring their best stuff but all of Smith's offense looked good with a nasty head bouncing powerbomb and a great suplex and I also liked his selling on The Rainmaker. Rating:***
Hirooki Goto vs. Prince Devitt
Hirooki Goto won with a shouten. This was lousy. They both said screw it went to the Devitt interference right away with Goto getting little in until the finish. This was incredibly mailed in and a total sham.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Togi Makabe
Hiroshi Tanahashi won with the High Fly Flow. Hiroshi put in a good effort but there's nothing you can do with this crowd. They were dead and there just wasn't any way this was going to be more than a house show main event. They get points for trying but it just wasn't happening tonight.
Rankings:
Overall thoughts: This was a G1 house show, no doubt about it. Some people were incredibly lazy tonight including the fans, the cameramen and all who were involved in the Devitt match. This show just wasn't fun to watch and had no real chance of being great due to the crowd. Some people tried harder than others and there were 2 good matches, but that was it.

I "need" to see a match between Ishii and Antonio Cesaro ! I NEED THAT !
ReplyDeleteI wanna know why you hate shelton benjamen that much, since I don't watch NJPW.
ReplyDeletewho would you compare him to from WWE or TNA ?
He basically just does spots. No real storylines in his matches and he seems to just want to get his moves in and get out. I thought he had a lot of potential in 2004.
DeleteI'd compare him to a lesser version of Davey Richards.
can you compare him to someone from wwe or tna ? I know richards but I haven't seen him wrestle really (maybe just one time in the past against daniel bryan and it was great).
