Sumo Nagoya Basho 2013 Day 4

Sumo Nagoya Basho 2013 Day 4

I missed it but both Masashikuni and Kyokutaisei got wins today.

J13w    Endo (3-0) vs J10w    Tokushinho (2-1)
Endo couldn't outpower Waka and moved back and stepped out.

Seiro vs Wakakoyu
Close on here but Waka's knee went down near the end and he lost it.

J11w    Takanoyama (1-2) vs J8w     Satoyama (1-2)
They had to have a rematch due to a no decision. Tak reached for an arm, slipped and went down. Tak is at 1-3 and things are not looking good.

J6e     Sotairyu (1-2) vs  J9w     Osunaarashi (2-1)
Big power match here. There was a rough tachi-ai and Osuna did his usual tactic of grabbing the belt, slowing it down and working the sides to get his opponent out.

J3w     Tochinowaka (2-1) vs J1w     Chiyootori (2-1)
Tochino got pushed around everywhere but did a great job of skirting the edge and pulling through with Chiyo putting down himself in the process.

M14w    Tamaasuka (1-2) vs M13w    Jokoryu (2-1)
They went back and forth by Jo got on his tip toes and then went to one leg before being pushed out.

O2e     Kakuryu (2-1) vs  S1e     Myogiryu (2-1)
Kaku slapped Myo around and Myo went for a desperation rush, until Kaku moved out for an easy win.

M3e     Chiyotairyu (3-0) vs  O1w     Kotoshogiku (3-0)
Koto grabbed him and pushed him out very easily.

O1e     Kisenosato (2-1) vs K1e     Shohozan (0-3)
Shohozan pushed, Kisen countered easily and that was it.

M1e     Takekaze (0-3) vs  O2w     Kotooshu (3-0)
Koto grabbed Take and walked him to the edge and got him out easily.

Y1e     Hakuho (3-0) vs  M2e     Tochiozan (2-1)
Hak grabbed Tochio off the tachi-ai on his shoulder and threw him down easily.

M2w     Gagamaru (0-3) vs Y1w     Harumafuji (2-1)
Haruma came at Gaga hard, then backed off and pulled down for an easy win.

  1. Just got caught up on the first four days. I think Hakuho's going 15-0. This is by far the best Kotooshu has been since I've been following closely.

Fun to watch Osunaarashi & Endo against guys good enough to give them a challenge. I fear for Takanoyama's status in Juryo.

    1. Hakuho is definitely looking good. Have to admit that his current streak favors him and it's not unreasonable to think he will extend it. I think he might slip up once but I don't see him losing this one.

Takanoyama is most likely leaving Juryo. There's really nowhere for him left to fall except into the 3rd division. I hope he doesn't go there though. I'm holding tight for Osunaarashi vs Takanoyama! That'll be fun but I think Tak will lose royally.

Endo is really looking good so far. I think he'll be up in the next level in no time. Osuna is still learning on the job and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do against some of the bigger guys.
