AWA 12/18/1986 - Leon White, Earthquake Ferris and Greg Gagne vs Boris Zhukov, Alexis Smirnoff, and Yuri Gordienko

The finish

The Russians got the pin on Earthquake Ferris when they tripped Ferris during his Ferris Wheel airplane spin. The first few minutes weren't that good with Gagne putting shoulderlocks on everyone and just some general confusion between the two teams. The Russians proceeded to mostly work over Gagne throughout the match with Gordienko bumping big. Leon White came in during the latter half of the match, playing the fiery babyface and looking pretty good doing so. He had some charisma even as a face and looked really legit. The crowd loved him and so did I. Near the end Ferris came in on a hot tag and set one of the Russians up for an airplane spin and was then tripped and pinned. I think even though it had some issues, I'd still be willing to give this 3 stars as the faces were good, the crowd was into it and Gordienko was bumping big. One thing I also liked here is that they really put over how the faces needed to stay away from the Russians corner and how they could end up taking a 3v1 if they ended up there. Overall, this was fun 80's wrestling. Rating:***
