Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 2/11/2024

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/southern-illinois-championship.html

Drew and Lucky P. Larson are our hosts today. Larson said the last two times the St. Louis Cardinals faced the Boston Red Sox in the World Series, the Red Sox won. They run down the card.

Sean Vincent vs Bryce Cawvey

Larson sings "O Canada" for Sean but says Bryce doesn't get one like Sean does. Drew asks what the Dupo city national anthem would be (that's where Bryce is from) and Larson asks if he'd want to be from a city called Dupo? Sean hits chops on Bryce then Bryce hiptosses him. Bryce does a grounded submission on him then sleepers him.

Sean blue thunders him out for 2. Sean facewash kicks him in the corner they trade wristlocks. Bryce dropkicks him while having him in the wristlock. Sean jumps on Bryce's neck over the 2nd rope and "Big Nasty" Glenn Williams gets a cheap shot on Bryce. Sean flying lariats Bryce.

Sean grounds Bryce and chops him. Sean puts him in a hammerlock then Bryce does a triangle. Grenn puts Sean's leg on the ropes to break it. The ref and Glenn argue and Bryce grabs Glenn on the ropes. Bryce nails Glenn then Sean boots Bryce in the gut to win it.

It was a basic opener. Nothing wrong with it. Larson was really funny on commentary here.

Volatile Curtis Wylde is interviewed by Destiny. Curtis asks if she feels wild because he says the people feel wild. He said now that Kowalski is back, maybe he'll reach out to his friends including Big Joe Helms. He said the LA Hustlers are always in his crosshairs. He says anyone who associates with Stephen E or Larson are. He said maybe he has his eyes on more gold in SICW and said the people's champ is the gold he always has his eyes on.

Johnnie Jo Black vs Kowalski

Kowalski backs up Black then misses a splash. Black corner lariats him then is lariated. Larson calls Kowalski a "500lb brick wall". Kowalski stands on Black's back and Larson calls out Joe Helms, saying he beat the crap out of him. Kowalski headbutts him and foot chokes him.

Kowalski hits a world's strongest slam then walks on his chest. Kowalski vader bombs him (called the k-bomb") and gets the win.

It was a quick squash here that put over Kowalski.

Austin Mulitalo and Shawn Douglas vs The Top Guns (Brandon Beretta and Joe Vinetti)

Austin and Brandon start us off. Brandon wristlocks him then Austin counters with the headlock takeover. Austin bounces out of it and front face locks him. Brandon suplexes him then Austin takes a double back elbow. Brandon sentons him and Joe legdrops him for 2.

Larson says Joe has to put his name on his tights in case he forgets his name. Joe suplexes Shawn then Joe corner lariats Shawn. Brandon lariats Shawn and Larson accuses the ref of being paid off by the faces. Brandon slams Shawn then hits a senton for 2. Shawn arm whips Brandon down then stomps the shoulder. Austin arm whips Brandon down and Shawn comes off the ropes on Brandon's shoulder.

Austin armlocks Brandon and Larson said they are working it "like an Anderson". They mess up a spot and Austin running forearms him. Austin suplexes him and floats over for 2. Shawn comes in and wristlocks Brandon. Brandon's arm is wrapped around the ropes and Austin gets free shots in on Brandon while the ref isn't looking.

Brandon comes back with punches and they forearm each other down at the same time. Joe and Shawn get tagged in. Joe hits lariats then slams Shawn. Brandon drops Joe down on Austin then Brandon spinebusters Austin. Brandon angle slams Shawn then Joe comes off the top with a splash on Shawn. Joe picks up the win for The Top Guns.

It was a longer tag by SICW standards as they had a full length match here. The Top Guns had a better performance here than they did a few weeks ago. They had a hiccup or two but it wasn't a bad effort.

Stephen E. is interviewed by Drew. He said when you have the money, you have the power and when you have the power, you make the rules. Stephen said his pockets are lined with gold and wants to close the deal on buying SICW. He said he's here to take over the company and may have to call the FTC. He said he wants to be the owner of SICW. He wants to take it to the next level and take it international.

Drew says that's what he wants, but doesn't mean it's what he will get. Drew said Herb Simmons (SICW owner) is well off and said SICW is his baby. Stephen E. said he wants to take the show to Saudi Arabia and says he will once he buys it. Stephen E. brings up the FTC again and tells Herb to look it up.

Wrestling at the Chase - Ken Patera vs Kerry Von Erich

Kerry's rocking the pink trunks today with the ruby red knee pads. Ken as usual take his time getting ready. Ken backs him up on the ropes. He chest clubs him and Kerry punches him back. Kerry side headlocks him, Ken picks him up and throws him. Kerry hits a nice dropkick then armdrags him.

Ken headscissors Kerry then Kerry armdrags him. Kerry armlocks him. Patera wristlocks him and Kerry rolls out with a dropkick. Ken then goes out. Ken side headlocks him then pulls him down. Ken knees him in the head and rolls him for 2. Kerry lifts him and puts him on the top then hits a shot to the gut. Ken double axe handles him off the buckles then elbow drops him for 2.

Kerry dropkicks him in the gut and Ken is thrown into the buckles chest first. Ken suplexes him then Kerry ties up his leg. Ken hits mounted punches and throws him out. Ken atomic drops him on the floor and they trade shots outside. Ken stomps him inside then hits a clothesline. Ken misses elbow drops and Kerry sleepers him from the apron.

Kerry goes for the claw with 1 minute remaining in the match. Ken blocks it then misses a corner charge. Kerry sunset flips him for 2 then Ken cradles him for 2. Kerry hits punches and back rolls him as the time limit expires.

It was an action packed match with a real fast pace to it for 1980's standards. Not great or anything but it was fine for what it was.

They fight more after but we quickly cut away.

Payton Ayres and Steve Fender vs Gary Jackson and Big Texan

Steve hits chops on Texan and Texan no sells it, staring him down. Texan hits big chops and Steve crawls over to Payton. Texan chops Payton and bangs his head off the buckles. Payton goes for a suplex but is suplexed himself.

Gary double axe handles Payton's arm then water wheel drops him. Payton hits shots on Gary then hits a nice lariat. Steve boots and elbows Gary. Gary's head is banged off the buckles then Steve's head is banged off the buckles. Gary armdrags Steve then armdrags him. Texan stomps Steve and slams him.

Texan elbow drops Steve for 2 then pulls his arms back. Gary is thrown into the ropes and Payton knees Gary from the apron. Payton slams Gary then bangs his head off the buckles. Payton foot chokes him. Texan tries to come in illegally and Gary takes a double team or it. Gary back elbows Payton then Texan gets in.

Texan hits a stiff lariat on Payton then the heels are whipped into each other. Texan hits a stiff lariat on Payton. Texan goes for a chokeslam on Steve but Atilla Khan comes in. Khan foot chokes Texan. Payton grabs a branding iron but Texan hits him with it. Larson complains about Texan grabbing a weapon and the heels are sent off.

This had a dirty finish as these main events often do. Texan had some nice lariats here and Payton didn't look bad for his experience level.

Overall thoughts:
It was a fun show as usual. Not great or must see. The commentary was fun as always and the Mulitalo/Douglas vs Top Guns match was the best match of the show.
