Ring of Honor on HonorClub 3/28/2024 Episode #57

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/03/ring-of-honor-on-honorclub-3212024.html

ROH Women's World Title Proving Ground Match - Athena vs Nikita

Athena charges, misses and is lariated. Nikita sling blades her then bulldogs her. Athena bumps on her head for it. Nikita pedigrees her for 2 then hanging headscissors her on the ropes. Nikita poses then Athena goes to tope her and just jumps off the apron with a forearm, totally blindsiding her in a nasty spot.

Nikita is sent into the rails then her head is swung into the rails. Athena swinging double underhooks her and throws her from it. Athena hits a nasty underhook suplex then taps her out with a head and arm lock while the legs are figure four'd.

This was your usual dangerous Athena match where she roughs around her opponent recklessly. Nikita was attractive at least and got a little in before the beating starting.

Athena shotgun dropkicks her after and pounds on her. Nikita is put in tree of woe and kicked as she hangs. Athena puts the belt in her face then Hikaru Shida comes down. Athena then runs out.

Lee Johnson is interviewed by Renee. He said he's not here to take part, he's here to take over and take titles. He said there's a TV title match tonight between Kyle Fletcher and Blake Christian. He said he is calling his shot at Supercard of Honor and says he's got the winner next.

Griff Garrison and Cole Karter vs Kaz Jordan and Victor Castella

Maria got some implant work done. She was wearing real baggy shirts for a while and now we know why.

Griff shoulders over Kaz. Kaz leapfrogs and dropkicks him. Griff then lariats him. Cole splashes Victor then spinebusters him. Griff spinning forearms Victor then pendulum drops him on his chest. Victor takes a high knee from Cole then a face kick + drop from Cole's shoulders.

This was just a squash here.

Nick Comoroto vs Dalton Castle

Nick got a haircut and new tights. He also didn't shave and looks real dirty with the body hair. Nick backs him up and taunts him. They bang their crotches into each other then Dalton trips him. Dalton hits shots to the back then his head is banged off the buckles.

Nick hits corner spears then is thrown over the top. Nick skins the cat to get in then back elbows him. Dalton boots him then runs into a lariat. Dalton hits forearms then does an impressive german on Nick. Dalton then hits a bangarang and wins it.

This was short and not bad for it was. Nick's new look is terrible.

Taya Valkyrie comes out after. She says how dare you say they are irresponsible. She said they lost The Boys and said she realized how rude and annoying they are. Taya said they are bad boys and is glad they lost them. Dalton gets mad and Taya said he never loved them like mommy and daddy loved them. She said for that, he deserves this. Johnny TV jumps him from behind, hits a spinning neckbreaker then hits mounted shots. Johnny and Taya kiss then stomp Dalton.

Mark Briscoe says Philadelphia is the origin of pro wrestling for them. Mark said he's gotta start over from square one when Jay passed. He said his wings were clipped and he was humbled in the Continental Classic. He talked about the voice inside of him and said Eddie has the same voice. He puts over Eddie and said Eddie said he's going to tap into vicious and ruthless Eddie. He said Eddie may be the champ in ROH, but he will show him he is the top dog. He said it will be 11 years since Jay won the title and he said they are gonna man up.

This was a good video covering up what was otherwise a weak set-up.

Brandon Cutler and Colt Cabana vs Rex Lawless and Bryce Donovan

Rex and Bryce are bigger than their opponents and should not be jobbing here. Colt Cabana put on a bunch of weight. Cutler tries to shoulder Rex and gets knocked back. Cutler hurts his hand chapping him.

Colt and Rex test strength and Colt goes down. Rex takes a double shoulder then Bryce takes a double atomic drop. Colt and Cutler do a dance then elbow drop and splash Bryce. The two dance then Rex face kicks Cutler.

Rex chops Cutler then Bryce corner lariats Cutler. Cutler is slammed then Bryce jumping elbows him. Cutler and Colt goof off. Cutler flips over Rex and tags in Colt. Colt sends Rex into Bryce then backsplashes both. Colt hits punches on both. Colt tries to do a double elbow on his opponents but misses Bryce completely. Cutler airplane spins Rex then falls down with him.

Rex is double clotheslined over the top. Bryce comes off the buckles and is hit then Bryce takes a double team pump handle slam for the loss.

This was awful with Colt and Cutler goofing off the whole time and beating people they shouldn't have beat. Their team doesn't even make sense right now since The Bucks are doing a new version of The Elite.

Action Andretti and Top Flight vs KPK (Abu, Ahmed & Harun)

AA snapmares Abuand goes for a pin attempt. Abu headflips out of a wristlock, armdrags AA but AA wristlocks him. Darius takes down Abu then armdrags him. AA butt drops Abu's arm off the leapfrog then Dante springboard double stomps Abu's arm. Darius dropkicks Abu in the arm.

Dante gets kicked from the apron then is superkicked by Abu. Abu hits mounted punches on AA. Dante is slammed by Ahmed then Abu slingshot swantons him. AA escapes a double team then jumps off of 2 of their backs to tag in Darius. Darius hits a gutbuster on Harun then hits a reverse ddt + ddt combo. Abu is shotgun dropkicked into a german. AA handspring kicks Abu on the ropes.

AA and Darius do plancha's outside. Dante superkicks Ahmed then AA hits a split legged moonsault on him to win it.

The faces did flying and fast paced offense here as you would expect. It probably went longer than it needed to considering the heels had no chance of winning this one. KPK are all smaller guys who could probably use a gimmick to make them stick out more.

Keira Hogan vs Diamante

Dia shoulders Hogan over and they stare down. Hogan shoulders Dia over then Dia hammerlocks her. Dia snapmares Hogan then Hogan hammerlocks her with a bridge. Hogan takes her elbow pads off then Dia forearms her. Hogan high kicks her then steps off her back and legdrops the back of her neck.

Hogan is tripped into the 2nd buckle then Dia stomps on her. Dia corner dropkicks her. Hogan 2nd rope dropkicks her. Hogan hits double axe handles then superkicks her. Hogan hip attacks her and baseball slides her in the corner. Hogan superkicks her then hits a spinning neckbreaker for the win.

It was an average mach for the most part. It wasn't bad or anything but there was nothing too special about it. I was hoping for more aggression here.

Evil Uno vs JD Drake

They both try to get bigger reactions than the other on the ropes. They push each other and Uno gyrates at him. Uno side headlocks him then JD gyrates. They shoulder battle and Uno flying headscissors him. They hit chops on each other outside and Uno punches him. Uno chops the post when JD moves.

JD throws him into the ropes from the outside and lariats him as he bounces. JD chops him then hits a slam. JD slingshot swantons him then shining wizards him. Uno hits chops then is punched. Uno cannonballs him off the apron. Uno running forearms him then hits corner punches.

Uno face kicks him and ddt's him. Uno pounds on him then JD whips Uno with his own shirt. JD shotgun dropkicks him for 2. JD misses a vader bomb then fakes a running face kick. Uno misses a top rope swanton then JD cannonballs him. JD misses a top rope moonsault then Uno rolls him up and wins it.

It wasn't bad as a heavyweight match with the two trading a lot of strikes and using their size against each other.  I could have done without the gyrations and it could have been a little shorter, but I liked what they were doing here for the most part.

Hikaru Shida does a promo. She said she beat almost everyone and needs stimulation. She said she is excited to beat up the forever champion and said be ready for the new era as Holy Shida has arrived.

They announced that Stardom will be doing a trios match on Supercard of Honor. I'm sure it'll be a good match but I don't think it'll be much more than that.

ROH TV Title - Kyle Fletcher (c) vs Black Christian

Blake wristlocks him then is thrown down. Kyle shoulders him over then Blake dropkicks him. Blake handsprings then rolls him into a splash for 2. Kyle lariats him over the top then Blake 619's him when Kyle tries to get back in the ring. Blake fosbury flops into an elbow slice.

Kyle swinging side slams him. Kyle hits chops, Blake hits some back then takes a flying back elbow. Blake handstand kicks him on the ropes then half-misses a ddt from the handstand position. Blake corkscrew kicks him in the back of the head then spears him on the apron. Blake then topes him.

Blake top rope elbow drops him for 2. Blake goes up top and gets crotched. Kyle flying face kicks him in the corner then brainbusters him for 2. Kyle is laying on the top rope and Blake top rope frogsplashes him. Kyle does a really nasty looking piledriver and wins it.

It was an indy style match where selling wasn't much of a concern. They had some creative stuff here and they did border on doing too much. They did keep it entertaining though.

Lee Johnson comes out after and stares at Kyle from the ramp. Kyle says "try me".

Overall thoughts: It felt like there was a little more direction than usual here and we actually had two champs compete on the show which is an upgrade. The world champ, pure champ, tag champs and trios champs didn't wrestle or even appear though. Athena was her usual reckless self in her match.  Nick Comoroto has an awful new look but had a good one with Dalton. Cutler and Colt were on here doing comedy and beating people they shouldn't have. Top Flight did a random trios match. Hogan and Dia had an average match. Uno/JD was decent and the main bordered on being too much but still had some positives to it. It wasn't great but there some positives here and it was a better effort than the usual ROH offerings.
