Mid-States Wrestling 2/16/2024 Season 1, Episode 16
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/mid-states-wrestling-292024-season-1.html

They said this is the season finale of this show. I don't know what that means going forward as they have more shows coming up and there's just not a lot that would suggest this is the end of the show. Maybe they are out of footage and will need a few weeks to get it all together?
Akbar Ala Hadid vs Jason Jones
Stephen E. is with Akbar. Akbar jumps Jason from behind. Jason fights back and hits a lariat. Jason back elbows him then splashes him. Akbar gets both his feet up on Jason's charge. Akbar stomps Jason then Stephen E. chokes Jason with the flag.
Akbar chinlocks him as the crowd chants "deport Akbar". Akbar eye rakes Jason then Stephen E. hits Jason with the flag from the outside. Akbar does a camel clutch variation. Jason ends up hitting a stunner and Akbar rolls out.
The ref checks on Akbar outside. Stephen E gets in the ring to hit Jason but is grabbed. Akbar nails Jason from behind. They go out and Akbar's head is banged off the rails. Jason hits punches on Akbar outside and Jason basically watches this go to a double countout. Jason chases Stephen E. out after then throws the Syrian flag down.
It was basic heel and face stuff here that could have been executed a little better. Jason really could have gotten in before the countout. Stephen E's interference could have been done better as there's no way the ref couldn't have seen it. And Jason could have used a bit more speed and fire in comeback. It wasn't awful though and did make sense.
MSW Tag Title Tournament Finals - The Fraternity (Alan Jefferson and Cannonball Matthews) vs Toxic Masculinity (Johnny Dynamite and Johnny Lightning)
Alan and Lightning start us off. Alan slaps him and spits on him. Lightning misses a corner charge and then locks up with Cannonball. Cannonball throws him then takes a backslide. Lightning rolls him up then is flipped with a lariat. Alan stomps and leg ddt's Dynamite.
Alan is spinned into a side slam then Lightning delay vertical suplexes him. Alan takes a spinebuster for 2 then Lightning chops him. Alan takes a double wheelbarrow suplex then is slammed by Dynamite. Lightning hurricanrana's Cannonball out then is pushed off the apron. Cannonball catches him and drives his back into the post. Lightning is then send into the steps.
Cannonball chinlocks Lightning then Lightning takes a double backbreaker. Alan chokes Lightning over the middle orpe with his knee then Cannonball pulls Lightning's throat over the 2nd rope. Lightning takes a punch from Cannonball then is lifted for an Alan codebreaker off the 2nd rope.
Alan does a nice single leg dropkick to Lightning. Lighting comes off the top on Alan and takes a codebreaker for it.
We go to break and return. Dynamite is tagged in and hits punches on Alan. Lightning gets in and Alan low blows Lightning. Cannonball snapmares Lightning then side headlocks him. Lightning fights out and step up enzugiri's him. Dynamite hits chops on both opponents and slams Cannonball. Alan hits Cannonball with his clipboard on accident. The clipboard ends up getting superkicked in Alan's face. Alan takes a german and is pinned.
It was your basic match for the most part with the heels working over the faces. I thought they could have done a better job with the hot tag section here as that should have lead to the pin instead of having more action go on after it. The clipboard stuff didn't go as clean as planned. Additionally, I'm pretty sure the announcers confused Dynamite and Lightning at times.
Overall thoughts: The two matches shown were acceptable but could have been better. I didn't like how the countout finish was done in the Jones/Hadid match. I thought the finish could have been a little cleaner in the tag match. Since this was the season finale for MSW, I don't know what is next or when for Mid-States Wrestling. They have another show in March, so maybe we will get new footage then. I hope it's not the end as it's a nice weekly show that I have enjoyed.
