WWE NXT 2.0 6/21/2022
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/06/wwe-nxt-20-6142022.html
Solo Sikoa vs Grayson Waller
GW talks on the ramp as he enters. He says he is sick of hearing about him and says we should be talking about Waller instead. He keeps talking and Solo charges him and nails him. Solo bangs his head off the commentator's table and apron.
Back in and Solo hits some headbutts. Solo slams him and headbutt drops him. Waller comes back and bangs his head off the buckles which Solo no sells since he is a samoan. Solo then bangs GW's head off the buckles and backdrops him. GW pulls a turnbuckle pad off when Solo isn't looking. Solo shoulderblocks him then hits a clothesline.
Solo hits corner spears then hits a nice lariat. GW comes back with an sto. He slides out for a clothesline but takes a back elbow on the ramp. We go to PiP break and return with GW hitting a nice leg lariat. GW hits some knees to the head from the cravate position. He tries to walk the 2nd rope and poses, but Solo stops him and punches him to the floor. Solo then running shoulders him outside.
Solo splashes him on the inside then running hip attacks him. Waller slips out of the ring and goes for his roll into a cutter but gets samoan dropped. GW gets superkicked and ducks which makes Solo go into the exposed buckle. GW then slips outside and flips in and rolls to do his cutter for the win.
It wasn't a classic but it was a slightly good match. It went a little longer than these two are used to but they did well. GW continues to look like a future top guy as he just has everything you want. These two matched up well and I loved the samoan drop spot shown above.
We cut to The D'Angelo Family beimng interviewed. Tony says the Legado's can get on his good side by beating Strong/Kemp tonight and he says he will get his first taste of gold by beating Carmelo Hayes tonight. Tony says in any new company, there will be some blowback. Tony says Santos has a chance to prove himself to the family and says there will be hell to pay if he isn't the N-A champ tonight. Escobar assures him it will be fine.
We get a vignette for Jordan Devlin, who is now under a new name and gimmick called JD McDonagh. He is shown rolling in a car and is shown in his penthouse in Dublin. He said NXT will find out that you never bet against an ace.
Kayden Carter and Katana Chance vs Yulisa Leon and Valentina Feroz
Leon dances and takes a shotgun dropkick from Carter for it. Leon dropkicks her and flapjacks her on the buckle. Leon stands on the 2nd and 3rd ropes and sunset flips Carter. The two trade chest chops then Leon is tripped into a combo. Chance holds Leon in the corner with a splash then Carter dropkicks her. Chance then hits a kick combo that ends in a leg sweep.
Feroz gets in and hits some shoulder throws then rolling spears Chance. Chance gets flapjacked into a facebuster. Chance reverses a double suplex into a double neckbreaker. Chance and Carter do another double team sequence then they do the 450 + neckbreaker combo to win it.
Chance and Carter looked pretty good here and have been main roster ready for a while. This was mostly a squash with Chance and Carter doing various double team moves.
Wes Lee comes out to talk. He says he went from the highest of highest to the lowest of lows. He talks about Nash Carter without saying his name and said the world exploded under their feet when they won the tag titles. He said he was trying to prove himself against Xyon and Sanga. He said he wanted to prove he could stand on his own two feet.
Trick Williams comes out. He tells him to shut up and says nobody wants to hear about how lonely he is or how "his brother exploded". He said Wes left his brother behind and said he isn't the friend he pretends to be. Trick said maybe Wes left his friend behind. Wes defends himself and says Trick is second fiddle to Carmelo Hayes. He says Trick hypes up Hayes so much that he is worried that he has no hype for himself. He basically challenges him and Trick says he will fight when he wants to. He said he will do him one better though and do like his friends did - leave.
This wasn't a bad segment and Trick as usual was good.
Tiffany Stratton does a taped vignette on Wendy Choo. She said she feels bad for the people that have to be around her. She says Wendy has never been in a gym and blames her for costing her a match. She calls her a Peter Pan reject and says since she loves sleeping so much, she will put her to sleep for good.
Diamond Mine (Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp) vs The D'Angelo Family (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro)
Strong takes down Wilde early. Toro and Wilde back elbow strong then Toro asai moonsaults Strong. Kemp gets in and wrestles down Toro. Strong gets mad at Kemp and slaps him then Kemp suplexes Toro around. He hits a beautiful belly to belly on Wilde who lands on Toro. Both tag out and Wilde hits a spinning facebuster on Strong then takes a backbreaker into a nice Kemp lariat. Kemp grounds and pounds Wilde then hits a nice swinging slam.
Toro gets the hot tag in and hits some flying moves on Strong. Toro takes a few steps on the top rope and dropkicks Strong then Strong olympic slams him. Wilde planchas Kemp. Two Dimes either intentionally or unintentionally trips Toro, they argue and Strong hits a jumping knee for the win.
This was a fast paced action packed match here. I liked the finish as it continues the LDF/D'Angelo Family story.
Tony's crew says they dropped the ball after.
We get another Apollo Crews vignette. He asks himself if he has what it takes. He runs into a guy who is watching someone get beat up by people in the alley. The guy tells him not to go down there. Crews intervenes and fights off the attackers and helps the guy. Then it's revealed that was a dream. We return to reality and it cuts out before we can see what happened. I don't know what this stuff is about, how it makes sense or where it is going.
Toxic Attraction comes out. Mandy said Roxanne and friends are losers. Jacy told Cora to go back home on her bus and put up posters of real stars like them on their walls. Mandy said things would get ugly if she sticks around.
Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade came out. Mandy told Roxanne that she didn't want to cash in her contract for a title shot. Roxanne said she feels on top of the world and said she earned the chance ot live her dream. Roxanne hinted that she wants to go for the tag titles with Cora. Carter and Chance then came out. They said they are in front of the line and called Roxanne the flavor of the month. Cora said they are done then they all fought.
Hayes and Trick were interviewed. Hayes interviewed Trick with an invisible mic and Trick said he took care of business tonight. Melo then said he would take care of business tonight.
Indi Hartwell was interviewed. Kiana James then walked in. she said we are wasting valuable TV time on Indi. She said facts and figures don't lie and said Indi gives the women's movement a bad name. She said Indi jumps from friend to friend. Indi said no one cares about her opinion and told her to bring her stats to the ring next week. Kiana said she should get ready to experience another failure and Indi said, "this is NXT 2.0 and no one likes a b*tch".
Cameron Grimes vs Edris Enofe
Enofe rolls out of a wristloc kand armdrags him. Grimes cartwheels out of an armdrag then rolls him up for 2. They then do a stand off. They mess up something and Enofe dropkicks him. Grimes standing hurricanrana's him then kicks him from the apron. Grimes hits a top rope crossbody for 2.
Enofe is on his knees and Grimes hits some kicks. Enofe powers up and tells him to hit more. They trade forearms. Enofe ties him up in the ropes and hit strikes then flip topes him outside. Enofe then goes for a 450 but Grimes moves. Grimes then does a swinging side slam on him and wins it with the M. Bison stomp.
This was a short but good little back and forth match. Enofe got some shine spots in and did a good job here.
Grimes helped him up and showed him respect after.
Thea Hail arrived at Chase U's dorms. She is now Bodhi's roommate and Bodhi was confused by it. Thea threw her stuff everywhere and said they would be best friends. She was super hyped up then Bodhi joined in too. They then decided to get some food and Thea puched him in the gut and knocked the wind out of him.
Von Wagner was warming up in the back and Brooks Jensen was headed to the ring.
We saw clips of Nikkita Lyons working out and trying to recover from her leg injury. She is back next week.
Von Wagner vs Brooks Jensen
Thye get off to a fast pace and brawl. Von hits corner lariats and Jensen hits a spinning heel kick after punches. Jensen slides out to punch him then has his arm dropped over the top rope. Von hits a big boot to the arm and bangs Jensen's arm off the mat. Von then sticks Jensen's hand in the turnbuckle connector and starts banging on it.
Von single arm ddt's him and wraps the arm around the rope. Jensen hits a nice corner lariat and a regular lariat. Jensen hits more strikes and hits a twisting springboard ddt from the 2nd buckle. Jensen goes up top but lands on his arm then Von death valley drivers him for the win.
There wasn't anything wrong with this. It made sense with Von working the injured arm and Jensen trying to fight out of it.
Grimes is in the locker room. Bron comes up to him and said that's the Grimes he is looking forward to facing. Grimes says he isn't looking forward to that as if this Grimes shows up, he is looking at the next NXT champ.
Joe Gacy did a video with The Dyad. Joe said they left everything behind for him and his views. He said they no longer look at themselves the same. He said they came together under his guidance and titles will be more meaningful when they win them because of him.
Alba Fyre vs Lash Legend
Alba hits some shots early and Alba 2nd rope dropkicks her. Alba hits some chest chops then Lash hits a bad spin kick. Lash puts her throat on the ropes and pushes then double underhook suplexes her. Alba holds her arm and superkicks her then tornado ddt's her off the ropes. Lash then spinning sideslams her for 2.
Lash misses a move then takes a gori bomb. Lash then take's Alba's bat and drives it into her throat for the DQ.
This wasn't anything special and the finish was lame.
Tony and his crew and Melo/Trick are headed to the ring.
Next week is Cora/Perez vs Chance/Carter for #1 Contenders to the NXT Tag Titles and Sanga vs Xyon Quinn.
WWE NXT North American Title - Carmelo Hayes vs Tony D'Angelo
Tony does Melo's basketball shooting taunt and shoulders him. Melo flips out of a hiptoss then does the shooting tautn. Trick and the D'Angelo Family both get on the apron and Trick backs off as he is outnumbered. Melo hits some punches on Tony then Tony pops him up and lets him fall down.
They fight on the apron and Tony gets legswept on it. Tony then throws him into the steps. We go to PiP break and return. Tony stretches him. Melo gets out and hits a springboard twisting lariat and pounds on him. Melo then hits la mistica on him for 2. Tony hits an exploder on him for 2 then talks trash. Tony slaps him. Melo hits a codebreaker after flipping out of a backdrop.
Tony does a great rolling spear takedown into a throw. Tony tells Santos to throw him a weapon then Santos throws it to Melo. Melo then hits Tony with it and wins it.
The finish made sense for the story but we just had a dirty finish in the last match. This wasn't anything too special.
Overall thoughts: There wasn't anything great on this. We had 3 dirty finishes and maybe Enofe/Grimes was the best thing here.
