AEW Rampage 6/17/2022
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/06/aew-rampage-6102022.html
Jon Moxley vs Dante Martin
Dante pushes him early and they both roll out of wristlocks. Mox shoulders him over then headlocks takeovers him. Dante hits a headscissors then uses the bottom rope to do a dropkick on him. Dante tries some chops and gets chopped down. Dante gets thrown int othe buckles hard and takes a nice bump for it.
We go to PiP break and return with Mox putting him in a texas cloverleaf. Mox then regal stretches him and hits some knees to the head. Mox sits on the top rope and Dante flips from the mat to hurricanrana him. Mox then hits a nice butterfly suplex for 2. Mox hits an elbow flurry on his chest and Dante avoid a lariat to headscissor him. Dante then springboards to the outside on him.
Dante then hits a top rope crossbody for 2. They trade forearms and Mox sleepers him. They fight up top and Dante hits a top rope sliced bread #2 for 2. They then trade kicks and forearms and Mox cutters him. Dante sunset flips him for 2 then Mox hits a big lariat for 2. Mox then hits an elbow flurry and finishes him with something like a grounded buffalo sleeper.
This wasn't anything too special. It got off to a slow start and Dante didn't do a lot of his flying that makes him stand out.
Tony Schiavone interviews Swerve and Keith Lee. Keith asks why he shouldn't beat him up for going against him in the battle royale. Swerve says that was singles competition. Starks and Hobbs then walk in and say they call themselves the best tag team but haven't beaten them. Ricky asks them to marinate him in an odd line.
The House of Black and Death Triangle did promos against each other. Penta says thgey are clowns impersonating bad guys. Malakai says their time in this world is up and he will send them to the next world. Pac calls him a strange creep.
Max Caster and The Gunn Club vs Leon Ruffin and Bear Country
The Bears and their opponents brawl outside early. Boulder gets thrown into the steps. Austin chops Leon. Leon takes a unique hiptoss then a top rop elbow by Max to win this.
Leon and Bear Country are so far above this and this was all squash.
Hook is interviewed. He says nothing as usual. Danhausen then comes in. He says he and Hook will beat up the New Japan dojo guys next week. Hook said he has this and then that's it.
TBS Title - Jade Cargill vs Willow Nightingale
Willow has disco/funk type of music which is pretty good. Willow hits an enzugiri and Jade squats with her on her shoulders. Willow misses a pounce and gets pump kicked. Kiera gets some cheaps shots outside as we go to PiP break.
We return with Willow hitting some corner moves including a cannonball. Jade pedigrees her and does a double chickenwing slam to win it.
The break really cut out the majority of this and there wasn't much left to it.
Keira beats up Willow after. Athen's music hits and she attacks Kiera off the top. Jade then pump kicks her. Kris Statlander runs down, slaps Stokeley in the back of the head and Jade walks off.
We get a Satnam Singh, Lethal and Dutt promo. Lethal calls Joe a lazy champion.
They run down some of the upcoming cards and Mox/Tana will fight Jericho/Archer on Dynamite this week.
We get split screen promos with Red Dragon and Darby Allin. Darby says he is taking out Fish as Kyle took out Sting. Fish asks where he is taking him out and asks about various restaurants. Fish tells him to sell his bs elsewhere. Darby promises to break Fish's leg.
Bobby Fish vs Darby Allin
Fish attacks Darby as he enters. Fish dragon screws him then spears him into the apron. Fish goes into the rails then Darby plancha's him and punches him. Fish hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker then misses a moonsault. Darby then topes him into the rails as he goes outside.
Darby is on the apron and Fish kicks out his leg from the floor. Fish then dragon screws him into the rails. We go to PiP and return. Darby reverses a suplex into a reverse ddt. Darby gets put in a sleeper but flips back with the help of the ropes then hits a code red on Fish. Darby then coffin drops him off the top to the outside.
Fish spears Darby out of the ring and to the floor hard. They fight on the apron and Fish hits a nasty german on him on the apron. Fish then super falcon arrows him for 2. Fish goes for some kind of ankle hold then Darby rolls him back and picks up the win.
Fish beats him up after. Kyle O'Reilly comes down with a chair. The lights go out and Sting makes the save. Kyle goes for a chair but gets low blowed with a bat. Darby puts Fish's leg in the chair then coffin drop's it to Pillmanize him. Sting then pulls on Fish's leg with a bat and the heels run off.
You gotta give it to Darby. This wasn't a great looking match, but he took all kinds of wild bumps and it's hard to really knock it. Not the greatest match ever, but it's yet a few more clips to Darby's highlight reel.
Overall thoughts: The main was really the only thing worthwhile on this show and saved a lackluster Rampage.
