WWE NXT UK 2/24/2022
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/02/wwe-nxt-uk-2172022.html
Xia Brookside vs Amale
Amale does a nice throw early on her while having her arm and takes her down to the mat. Amale headscissors her and Xia headstands out of it and dances. Amle catches an Xis crossbody and slams her. She then rolls on her and dropkicks her in the back.
Xia gets some offense in and stomps on her back while she holds onto the top rope. Xia kicks her in the back and stretches her. Xia grabs her arm and Amale picks her up and dumps her. They trade forearms and Amale hits some clotheslines and a pumping knee. She then sentons her for 2.
Xia hits a high kick then is tripped into the 2nd rope and takes a pump kick facewash. Xia get spinebustered for the win.
Amale is still green and limited but it was alright.
Carter and Smith are warming up for the tag title match tonight. They got a video package on them.
Gallus, Dar and Samuels were talking with Sid Scala. Dar and Scala wanted them suspended for taking over Supernova Sessions and stealing the Heritage Cup trophy. Scala said Joe Coffey was getting a Heritage Cup shot in 2 weeks. They started arguing and Sid told Mark Coffey and Sha to settle things in the ring.
Starz and Mastiff argued with Pretty Deadly in the back and Pretty Deadly backed off.
Danny Jones vs Rohan Raja
Die Familie is out with Raja and that means problems for Danny. Danny armdrags Raja but Raja hlolds on, then he rolls him up into a pin for 2. Danny hits a knee to the gut then he takes a forearm to the face. Danny comes back with a big boot to the face.
Raja goes out and Danny goes after him, then is swept onto the apron and then rammed into it. Raja hits a dropkick to the back of the neck. He then slaps him around and tells him to get up. They trade forearms and Jones hits a step up enzugiri, then a backdrop. He hits a nice exploder for 2.
Raja forearms him and backcrackers him. He then hits a jumping flatliner for the win.
It was short and more competitive than I expected. I fail to see how Raja is more of an interesting propsoect than Jones is, as Jones continues to look good. It wasn't special or that great though.
Die Familie kick around Jones after and stomp him.
Mustache Mountain talks in the back.
We get a vignette on Eddie Dennis and the Hunt. The Hunt said things aren't how they are supposed to be and said they told themselves they would start winning. Eddie tells them to keep calm and focused.
We get a video of a trucker driving and eating. He hits something with his truck and picks up fur. Someone is then running around in the woods and the segment cuts out.
Die Familie runs into A-Kid in the back. He grabs Charlie Dempsey and says he thought Charlie was better than beating up Jones. Charlie says "maybe" and both leave.
We get the Meiko Satomura appreciation ceremony. They give her flowers. She says thanks and the lights cut out. Isla Dawn says she is mad she wasn't invited and comes to the ring. She says thanks to Meiko for giving her something to strive for and says she needs the women's title, her final trophy. Meiko says she is a strong competitor and tells her to ask if she wants a hsot. Isla says she doesn't ask for things, she takes them. She then high kicks her and drops her. She then takes the flowers.
Sam Gradwell is in the back and doesn't like his new mohawk-less haircut that he was given last week. He tries to talk himself over this. He said everyone is asking about what happened to his hair and says he can't stop seeing Kenny Williams when he sees his hair. He says he can get over it but Kenny won't get over what he's gonna do to him.
We are reminded that Nathan Frazer challenged Ilja Dragunov last week. Ilja then said he accepted the challenge. He says he is good but not ready and will be the first step of Frazer's journey. This was a tiny bit of a heelish promo. The match is set for next week along with Coffey/Samuels and Pretty Deadly vs Jack Starz and Dave Mastiff.
WWE NXT UK Tag Titles - Mustache Mountain (c) vs Ashton Smith and Oliver Carter
Bate tries to counter an armlock early and hits a nice dropkick. Mustache Mountain hit a double shoulder then Trent is given a lift up for a corkscrew splash. Smith tries to jump over Carter's back for an attack on Trent but Carter moves and he ends up piggybacking him. Trent then hits a hiptoss on Smith.
Trent comes off the top then off of Sevens' shoulders for a senton atomico on Smith. Smith and Bate trade euro uppercuts and Bate does a big corkscrew bump for a Bate shoulder. Carter slingshots in but Bate catches him on his shoulders and takes out Smith with Carter's legs. Carter then gets an airplane spin.
Bate his Carter's leg and swings it down then Carter uses it to koppo kick him. Bate is sitting on the top rope then Carter jumps and hurricanrana's him then hits a big axe kick. Bate hits a big exploder on Carter then running SSP's him for 2. Trent was knocked off the apron and can't be tagged in. Bate does a nice rebound off the top rope for a lariat on Carter.
Carter does a silly string over Smith's back and then tornado ddt's Seven. He then asai moonsaults him for 2. Seven hits a nice lariat on Smith then emerald flowsion's him for 2. Trent hits Smith with a backhand then Smith hits a great spinning blue thunder bomb on Bate. Carter punts Bate then flips off of Smith for a moonsault on Bate for 2.
Carter tries another silly string but gets blocked then Seven gets urange'd on the floor. Smith hits a top rope leg lariat on Bate then Carter hits a doomsday device cutter on Bate, but Trent saves it. Seven dragon suplexes Smith then he hiptosses Carter over the top and goes with him.
Bate and Smith go at it. Bate hits some punches and a great straight jab. Smith has his feet on the ropes and the ref doesn't see it then Sevens runs by the ropes and slaps the foot off the ropes. The ref keeps counting and Mustache Mountain wins.
That was an interesting ending. I think it creates an interesting discussion on the rules of wrestling. My take is that since the foot was on the ropes, the pin shouldn't have taken place, so even if it was just knocked off, it shouldn't have counted. If the foot was knocked off the ropes, a new count would have to begin. I have a feeling we didn't hear the last of this one.
This was a good one. Bate is just such on another level and really is Bryan Danielson Jr. Carter and Smith looked the best they ever looked here and Mustache Mountain was good as always. A very good main event that made the show worthwhile.
Overall thoughts: We had 2 shorter matches and a strong main event. The 2 short matches weren't bad, just not great but the main was so it gets a thumbs up from me.
