WWE Friday Night Smackdown 2/5/2021

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 2/5/2021

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/01/wwe-friday-night-smackdown-january-29th.html

They did a graphic for Butch Reed.
They ran down what happened at the Royal Rumble and Roman came out with Jey Uso and Heyman to talk like usual. There's some piped in you suck chants which raise all kinds of questions in kayfabe. Why is someone playing this? Why is that person allowed to play this? Why is Roman allowing this?

Roman says the future is Edge since he won the Rumble. Roman said he was mad because Edge should be here instead of NXT to ask for a title shot. Roman was also mad that he was out here first and that Edge wasn't here. Roman called out Edge and Paul called for pyro to be played, then they found out Edge isn't here. Roman said he didn't like Edge playing games with him and said the last person who did so is Kevin Owens, who is now gone and history according to him.

Roman said he wants Edge to give him his decision by the end of the night.

Cole and Graves said it has been 33 years since the Hogan/Andre Main Event match.

Dominik Mysterio with Rey Mysterio vs King Corbin

Corbin jumps Dom and Rey during their entrance. Rey takes a ride off the stage into a box. I hate when they do stuff like this because if there is no punishment or problem with nailing people before the bell, why wouldn't everyone do it?

We go to break and the match begins as we return. Corbin mounts and pounds on Dom. Corbin clotheslines him in the corner and has control early. Corbin puts him in an armlock and ends up chasing Dom only to fall over the top. Dom then springboard splashes him to the outside. Back from break and Corbin catches a crossbody then hits a deep six off the ropes for 2.

Dom gets sat on the ropes, Corbin tries to clothesline him and both go over. Dom then topes him and Rey goes under the ring. Corbin tries to go in but Rey holds his leg and Dom hits a 619. Dom then frogsplashes him and wins it. It wasn't anything too special. Dom's still a very basic wrestler and we all know he is here for his last name only.

Big E was interviewed. He said he has had to fight all of his life. He said Sami and Apollo Crews aren't ready for him in their match tonight.

Daniel Bryan vs Cesaro

They exchange euro uppercuts early and Cesaro is back body dropped over the top. Then DB dives on him from the top. DB hits a top rope missile dropkick. Cesaro goes for a pop-up uppercut but DB turns it into a backslide. Shinsuke Nakamura is shown watching on in the back.

Cesaro hits some awful euro uppercuts, is bleeding from his head and DB fails to put on the yes lock. Cesaro flips out of a back body drop and DB stomps on him. Cesaro does a gorilla press into a backbreaker then giant swings him. Cesaro then sharpshooters him and wins kind of out of nowhere. It wasn't bad as the backbreaker led into the sharpshooter but it was short and they probably have better matches in them. Cesaro fist bumps DB after.

Bianca Belair is interviewed. They showed an instagram video with her parents being all happy about the win. Bianca's dad put the couch in recline and fell over. Bianca said her family has been there and said will be there at WM even if they aren't with her. She said she isn't picking her WM opponent yet.

Bayley vs Ruby Riott with Liv Morgan

Billie Kay is on commentary. She had photos of herself with her and said she was "allegedly" eliminated form the Rumble. Bayley put Ruby on her shoulder then threw her head on the top turnbuckle which looked ugly. Ruby caught Bayley with her legs in the corner and rammed her head into the middle buckle. Ruby armdragged Bayley while she sat on the 3rd rope and Ruby was thrown neck first onto the bottom rope where she bounced.

Bayley put Ruby in a hammerlock and Billie tried to get involved. This allowed Ruby to get out of it, but then Ruby was driven face first into the mat with a unique move and lost. Ruby took some rough looking moves here and this was for Billie Kay more than anyone else. Billie was asked about teaming with Bayley and tried to give her own photos to Bayley as Bayley left.

Edge was seen in the back so he is here.

Bianca Belair comes out to talk. She said everyone was calling her after she won the Rumble. She talked about who she could challenge for the Rumble then Reginald came out. He said he thought she could beat Asuka but he didn't think she could beat Sasha. He then said she couldn't even beat Carmella. Carmella than came out and said she has beaten Sasha twice and can beat Bianca twice.

Sasha Banks then came out. She said she's not going to be focusing on her rear view of Carmella. She laughed at the idea of Bianca being the best and said Bianca has it all, except for the title. Bianca went to talk but Reginald interrupted, saying Sasha will beat her. Bianca whipped Reginald with her hair and he fell out of the ring.

The Sasha/Reginald thing is kind of interesting but I don't know if Carmella putting up with it makes any sense.

Roman was in the back with Jey and Heyman. Heyman said Edge is here.

Sami was interviewed in the back with his cameramen. He said he will reclaim the IC title tonight.

Otis and Chad Gable vs Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode

On an inset, Chad and Otis said they did hot yoga after the Rumble. They said they see eye to eye and Roode would get these hips. The Street Profits did their own commentary on an inset. Gable flipped out of a wristlock and took down Ziggler.

Dolph hit a nice dropkick on Gable. Roode suplexed Gable. Gable rolled out of a clothesline to hot tag Otis. Otis did an exploder on Roode then a spinning clothesline on Dolph. Then he splashed Roode. Otis then did the worm an elbow but was run into the post on the apron. Gable rolled up Ziggler into a german suplex but Roode hit a spinning lift up DDT for the win. The Street Profits on commentary pretty much took this one over and made it hard to pay attention.

They showed clips of Andre and Hulk from February 5th, 1988 since it was 33 years ago. They usually don't do stuff like this.

Hulk Hogan then did a promo with Jimmy Hart. He said the match made him think of Edge's Wrestlemania opponent decision. Hogan said both Reigns and Drew are in a heap of trouble. He put over Edge as his partner and friend since they held the tag titles together at one point. This would have been more effective if Hogan didn't do the same thing a few weeks ago with Drew, but it was good.

Edge met up with Nakamura in the back but we couldn't hear any of it.

Intercontinental Title - Big E vs Sami Zayn vs Apollo Crews

E leapfrogs and back elbows Crews. Crews triple germans Big E and hits a nice short arm lariat on Zayn. Crews splashes both in the corners. E bangs Sami's head off the apron and Crews does a flip dive on him. Crews then moonsaults on him from the apron while E lays on the ground. Crews hits a hard missile dropkick on Sami then E overhead belly to belly throws him. E does his running splash to both opponents and Crews gets back body dropped onto the apron hitting his rear hard.  E does his apron splash onto Sami then Crews does a very high frogsplash from the top onto Sami. Apollo capture suplexes Sami but E gets under him and german suplexes him while he does it.

Sami hits a helluva kick on E but Crews pulls out Sami to keep the match going. Crews gorilla presses Sami hard into a barricade and almost takes out a cameraman. Crews goes in and takes a big ending and E wins the match. This was all action from to start to finish and was pretty good.

Seth Rollins returns next Friday.

Edge comes out. He said he dreamed of winning the RR and main eventing Wrestlemania and that's why he returned. He said he never lost the title and feels it is still his. He talked about who he might choose. He said he pulled over while driving here and a guy on the corner gave him his take on it.

Roman, Jey Uso and Heyman came out. Roman said without his blessing, Paul won't make a move on Edge. Roman kicked out Jey and Paul. Roman told Edge to acknowledge him and said to say his name. Kevin Owens then popped up behind Roman and stunnered him to end the show as Edge smirked. It's not that I don't like the Owens/Roman matches, but Owens has had a million shots it seems like and somehow keeps getting more.

Overall thoughts: It was alright. Not great or anything special and certainly nothing I would really rewatch, though the main was pretty good.
