AEW Dynamite 2/3/2021 Beach Break
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/01/aew-dynamite-1272021.html
Sorry this wasn't up sooner. I try my best, just the five hours of wrestling on Wednesday is too much for one night sometimes.
AEW World Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Battle Royal
Jungle Boy got a big entrance as did The Inner Circle. AEW remembered The Acclaimed existed and let them do a rap before they entered. The Bucks jumped on everyone from the stage during their entrance. Isaiah Kassidy did a dive off the top and everyone moved, making him flop. Marquen jumped off Kassidy's back and dropkicked Dante Martin, who took a big bump out. Hager hairflipped Reynolds onto the apron to take him out. Matt Jackson got back body dropped onto the stage. Luchasaurus chokeslammed one of the Bucks and flipped him onto an opponent. Stu was supposed to be chokeslammed onto Bowens on the outside but Bowens didn't catch him and he took a hard bump out. Marquen went for the silly string and Darius Martin hit Marquen and he was eliminated. Silver was thrown feet first over the top.
The Good Brothers made their way out during this and pulled down the ropes to eliminate Kassidy, then Doc decked him. Jericho and MJF eliminated one of the Bucks then did the Bucks pose. MJF just kind of randomly eliminated Jungle Boy. Caster held MJF and Sammy accidentally superkicked Caster. We then went down to Martin, Jericho and Sammy. Sammy had Martin headscissored hanging out of the ring and Jericho tried to throw Martin over, but took out Sammy. Jericho then hit a judas effect and eliminated Martin to win it.
The battle royale was good. There weren't many dull spots.
They did a video package on Jade Cargill showing her working out.
Thunder Rosa vs Britt Baker with Rebel
Rosa jumped on them before her intro was even done. Britt did a nice rolling armlock. Britt hung Rosa on the middle rope and kicked her in the head, then stretched her off the post and had her foot on her head. Rosa threw Baker into the barricades. The match slowed down and Britt curbstomped her on the ramp, then Rosa got right back up and death valley drivered her on the ramp. Back in and Britt hit a slingblade and a superkick to the face. Rosa went for a piledriver but it got reversed into a schwein for 2. Britt grabbed her glove and went for the lockjaw but couldn't get it.
Britt then did a jumping curbstomp onto Rosa. Rosa came back with a death valley driver but it was still only worth 2. Rebele ran straight into the ring and took off the middle turnbuckle padand Rosa kicked her out. Britt was supposed to put Rosa into the turnbuckle, but she missed and Rosa only hit the ropes and was out. Britt then won with the lockjaw. I thouhgt this went too long and they did too much on top of blowing the finish.
They showed a clip from last week where Matt Hardy, Tony Schiavone and Adam Page were in the back. Page made it clear he wasn't trying to team with him. Hardy said him and Page should team up to beat up Luther and Serpentico for ruining Brodie Jr.'s birthday and Page accepted.
Adam Page and Matt Hardy vs The Chaos Project(Luther and Serpentico)
Excalibur made a dumb comment about how Luther has more experience than Hardy and how it might help him. Page and Hardy picked up on Serpentico early. Luther got a little offense in and Serp missed a top rope swanton. Page did a fallaway slam onto Serp then dove onto Luther. Serp did a big flip off of a Page forearm then Luther missed a running cannonball off the apron onto the floor. Pagethen hit a buckshot lariat and Matt tagged himself in to win. Page didn't like that. This was a total squash.
They talked about an upcoming women's world championship tournament where atleast two of the people in it aren't actually women. Maki Itoh and Aja Kong are in it. The joshi's in AEW haven't been a big success so far and the more AEW relies on them, the longer it will take for the Women's division to get anywhere.
Jericho, MJF and the Inner Circle talked. Sammy questioned if they were all in this together or not and Sammy didn't like that they were called collateral damage. MJF told Ex-LAX and Hager that they needed to talk and kicked out the cameramen. I just don't get why the Inner Circle stays together if they all hate each other and don't trust each other. Just find new people to team with.
Tony met up with Miro and Kip about the wedding tonight. Miro said Chuck never had a girlfriend in his life.
They had the Wedding with Kip and Penelope. Sinister Minister was the priest. Miro was handcuffed by Chuck Taylor. Penelope was put into the cake. Orange Cassidy came out of the cake and did a move on Kip and Taylor/OC celebrated.
They cut to a segment last week with Shaq and the Inside the NBA crew. Shaq said he would beat Cody like he almost beat Chuck. Shaq said him and Jade would wrestle Cody and Red Velvet. Shaq said he had a move called the black tornado, which seems like a judas effect. Very cringe move name.Lumberjack Match - Lance Archer vs Eddie Kingston
Yeah, I dunno either, but I thought it was funny |
They went at it before it even started. The lumberjacks beat up on Archer when he went outside. Eddie brawled with the lumberjacks then Archer dove on everyone. Archer got mobbed by the lumberjacks and did a full nelson slam on Eddie. Archer did his ugly 180 vader bomb in the corner then the Bunny jumped on Archer's back. Archer tried to hit her with the blackout but Eddie hit him with a uraken. Jake hit Angelico on the outside and fell over. Butcher hit Archer when he hit the ropes and Eddie hit an exploder on him. Blade set up a table in the corner and Bear Bronson speared him through it. Then Bear Boulder threw out Butcher.
Eddie took a rock bottom from Archer. Eddie went up top and Archer hit a blackout. This probably would have been a good match but there was constant shenanigans that interrupted it.
FTR did a promo. Tully said everyone was scared of FTR. Tully didn't get why they weren't in the battle royale for the tag titles and I'm not sure I get it either. Dax then said they were bad men and they asked what do bad men do. They kidnapped and tied up Marko Stunt.
Joey Janela did a promo on Darby Allin for their match next week. He said they have fought before. Joey said he is back and will be a bad bad boy.
Kenny Omega, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows vs Jon Moxley, PAC and Rey Fenix
Anderson and Pac exchanged elbows and Pac did a running hurricanrana. Pac and Fenix hit standing moonsaults on Anderson. Pac was on the top rope and Doc hit a high kick to his head. Pac bounced Kenny into the ropes then release german suplexed him hard. Mox did a release vertical suplex on Karl, flipping him. Then he dove onto Doc then dove onto both Good Brothers. Mox threw Kenny into the rails and was then thrown into them himself.
Fenix got the hot tag in and hurricanrana'd Kenny then did a kick combo on Doc. He then did a high springboard reverse tope on Karl. Fenix and Pax did moonsaults from the top to the outside. Fenix then came back in and did a moonsault, back roll into a jumping cutter. Fenix was sitting on the top rope and Omega dragon suplexed him and then Doc face kicked Fenix. The Elite did a triple team inverted 3D. Kenny deadlifted Pac into a liger bomb then did a v-trigger to Pac. Kenny took a bunch of stuff including a release german on his head. Mox hit a big lariat on Omega. Fenix did his rebound hook kick then did a flip tope on Anderson. Kenny went to pin Mox then Pac did a 450 on both. Fenix did a double springboard into a moonsault on Anderson. Then he did another double springboard and got a spinebuster from Anderson. Fenix took a magic killer and was pinned.
They did every move they possibly knew. Nobody sold anything and it went 100MPH with them doing way too much. Even the announcers brought up that there was too much action to call. I'm sure the AEW crew will love this one but I didn't like this at all.
Doc, Karl and Kenny beat up Mox after then Archer came out and got the Good Brothers out of the ring. Moxley was then attacked by KENTA of new Japan, with Kenta hitting a bad go to sleep on Moxley. Then Omega posed over Moxley to end this.
Overall thoughts: This was a long show that I didn't really enjoy. The women's match and the wedding segment were pretty long. The lumberjack match would have been good without all the constant interference and the main was just dumb wrestling.
