MLW Fusion #116 Kings of Colosseum 1/6/2021

MLW Fusion #116 Kings of Colosseum 1/6/2021

NOTE - There was no show last week due to the holidays.

World Tag Team Championship - Bunkhouse Match: Ross & Marshall Von Erich (c) vs. Colonel Parker’s Dirty Blondes (managed by Aria Blake)

They all brawl to start and The VE's hit dropkicks. The match then went outside the building and Patrick got thrown across a table. Brien took a cowbell to the head. Blake the Blondes' manager low-blowed one of the VE's. Brien got backdropped on the stage and the VE's won with a claw/backdrop combo on Patrick. This was only 3:53 long and a shame since what we got was really good.

The VE's said they have an open contract for anyone and said this would be a big year for them.

We were told Simon Gotch is missing even though he has a match with Jordan Oliver.

Tom Lawlor did a promo:

He said the Opera Cup goes everywhere with him and he's very proud. He said "We're going to Flithy Island, and it's gonna knock your socks off".

Lio Rush said there is no one hotter than him

Reed says he's gonna beat him and sometimes you have to beat your idols.

World Middleweight Championship: Myron Reed (c) vs. Lio Rush

Reed catches Rush in a backdrop position, then bounces him off the top rope and drops him. Reed does a legdrop over the top. Rush runs all four ropes as Reed waits him with a punch then topes him when he goes outside. Back in and Rush grounds Reed. They trade forearms and Reed hits a jawbreaker. Rush rolls up Reed then does a tornado kick from the mat.

Reed hits a snapmare and some shots including a clothesline. Rush goes up and over and then back in and hits a codebreaker. Then Reed does a crossbody over the top. Reed hit a springboard european uppercut for 2. Reed did a release half nelson suplex and superkick to the face but only got 2.

Rush rolled outside when Reed was on a roll, rolled back in and caught him with a shot, then moonsaulted to him on the outside. Rush then got a nearfall with a spinning facebuster.

Reed got picked up for a suplex but turned it into a cutter. He hit a face kick and kipped-down and kipped-up into an enzugiri. Rush went to the apron and Reed jumped over the top into a cutter on the floor. That no doubt hurt Reed more than Rush.

Reed followed with a springboard 450 but Rush moved, then Reed did bounce back stunner off the bottom rope. Rush then got the win with a nice frogsplash off the top. Not a bad match with Reed looking pretty good here. Not much story, but they gave it enough time and Reed got to show off his stuff. It's an example of how sometimes even if you lose, you can still get the rub.

Rush did a promo after:

He asked us what we expected and said he is the moneyweight champ, while Reed is the paperweight champ.  He said he is the champ and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Alexander Hammerstone went to cut a promo but Contra Unit interrupted. He said Mads would take Hammer's title and career.

Selina de la Renta got on the screen and said next week she is running the show. She said L.A. Park would join with her if she got him a tag title shot, which she said she did for next week vs The Von Erich's. She also said Tom Lawlor would be the special ref.

Reed said Rush was the better man tonight, but he's the Young GOAT and he will do whatever it takes to get his Middleweight Title back.

Contra Unit then jumped Reed and Oliver and Daivari of WWE joined in, so he's a member now. The announcers basically said this was a set-up by Contra and is why there was no Oliver vs Gotch match.

National Openweight Championship: Alexander Hammerstone(c) vs. Mads Krügger

We are just starting the entrances with less than 8 minutes to go in the show.

Hammer and Mads start fighting as he enters and Mads takes a belt shot to the head. Mads throws him off the top but it isn't sold much. Hammer hits a lariat but to no effect. They fight outside and Hammer gets his face dropped on the apron. Back in and Hammer hits some chops but it doesn't help him much.

Hammer does a belly to belly to him and hits a flying clothesline. Hammer hits a step kick then does a pumphandle suplex for 1. Mads hits some punches and Contra seemingly cuts off the feed for a second, though they blamed it on production running from someone. Mads throws Hammer into the post and they trade punches on the stage and the match gets thrown out as they run out of time.

Well, while I would have liked to have seen a different ending on what we were told was a big show. But, I know they didn't want Mads losing and Hammerstone losing wasn't much better. No one loses here but it is a let down. Mads is limited and not that great and this wasn't that great.

Overall thoughts: 2 of the 3 matches were good and the main had a lame ending. The main and opener needed more time here and it was weird that Reed/Rush got double and triple the time they did.
