WWE Friday Night Smackdown 6/21/2013 Results and Review

Last week's show is here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/06/wwe-friday-night-smackdown-6142013.html

Daniel Bryan said Monday was the first time his match was ever stopped due to injury. He wasn't happy about it.
DB was mad that Orton didn't try to keep the match going and was mad that Orton patted him on the head.
He led a YES chant and said he'd beat Orton.

Orton called him "Dan" and said it was all wrong.
Orton said he now respected DB more.

DB didn't buy all that and said he'd shove that respect down Orton's throat.
Orton said the match would be stopped tonight and DB would be carried out.

Sheamus vs Cody Rhodes
The Scholars did some type of duel with a stick to choose who would fight.

Sheams won with a cloverleaf in a good match. Cody busted out some new offense here. I liked him catching Sheamus' dive into the ring with an armbar and his hammerlock bounce on the ropes as you can see above, was neat. Cody was aggressive and looked good here. Sheamus had to be a bully though and nail Sandow twice, with the first being unexcused. Sandow then rightfully jumped him after.

Intercontinental Title - Curtis Axel vs Wade Barrett

Axel won with the McGillicutter which is now known as a "spinning neckbreaker". The match wasn't much and didn't really catch my attention. Aside from Wade getting a good boot to the face in, there wasn't much to this.

Miz tried to start something after and Paul pulled out Axel.

AJ Lee vs Natalya

AJ won with the Black Widow. This was quick but decent. I don't think this got more than 3 minutes. Kaitlyn and Layla watched this in the back.
Aksana called Kaitlyn trash. Kaitlyn attacked her with a water bottle and threw trash on her.

Chris Jericho vs Alberto Del Rio

Alberto won by DQ. How? Don't know. Ricardo got up on the apron and Jericho threw him in. The match should have been stopped then but it wasn't. Dolph then jumped ADR and they ended it there. The match was decent before it ended and they really deserved a proper finish. Ricardo also took a nasty Lion Tamer. Ricardo basically turned heel here by interfering.

Dolph argued with Jericho after and Jericho hit him with a codebreaker. Ricardo help Dolph up while ADR kicked him.

Christian vs Drew McIntyre
These two had a good one on Superstars last year - http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2012/12/wwe-superstars-5312012-review.html

Christian won with a Killswitch in a short but awesome match. The highlights were Drew and Heath going splat on the ground and Drew catching Christian with a swinging side slam. This did not disappoint and was about as fun as you can get for a quick match. Rating:***
Christian talked about how good it was to be back and said he wanted one more match with someone who they didn't mention. The Shield then came down.

The Shield beat up and powerbombed Christian.
Renee Young tried to interview Paul Heyman in a very odd segment. She wanted to know about Punk and Brock and Paul started talking about her personal life, so she know how it felt to have dirty laundry aired. I and presumably a ton of others don't have a clue about her personal life, so when they mentioned stuff about her dad and her not getting along and other things, it was weird. It was an uncomfortable segment that I didn't really get since I don't care about Renee Young's life.

Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan won by countout after a tope and refused to accept the victory. This was a good match. DB was fiery as always and the crowd was into it. Orton hit a great fast powerslam and DB's dives looked good. Orton also nailed DB with a suplex onto the outside which was nasty. The finish didn't bother me since they worked it well and DB didn't seem to like it. This could have been better with a stronger finish, but it was fine. Rating:***

Overall thoughts: Good show with 3 good matches and tons of Daniel Bryan!
