WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/22/1992

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/04/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-2151992.html

Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-2291992.html

We are in Amarillo, TX. They say it's the helium capital of the world and make some puns about it.

Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect are our hosts. Vince talks about Macho now getting the title shot with Flair over Hogan. Perfect says they know something that will affect Macho's performance at Mania. He then breathes into a balloon, talks funny and says he will be anything but macho.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs Ed Robinson

Bret side headlocks Ed then shoulders him over. Bret lariats him over then headbutts him. Bret hits another back elbow. Bret slams and elbow drops him. Roddy Piper does an inset promo. He says Mania vs Bret Hart is what's important. He says Bret's a nice guy but he's the meanest son of a gun you have seen. Bret hits a backbreaker on Ed then 2nd rope elbow drops him. Bret then sharpshooters Ed for the win.

Thoughts: It was a quick one here with them barely having enough time to do the inset promo. This wasn't much of note and Bret got nothing in.

WWF Update

Mean Gene Okerlund says The WWF 1992 Royal Rumble VHS is available Thursday. Gene talks about the new line-up for Mania with Flair/Macho and Sid/Hulk. We then see clips of the recent SNME with Sid walking out on Hulk.

Gene asks what could be going through Sid's mind. We then see clips from The Barber Shop of Sid destroying it with a chair and threatening Brutus Beefcake. Gene says Sid/Hulk will blow the roof off The Hoosier Dome.

Tatanka vs B.A. Dalton

Tat runs to the ring and does his yell. Vince says Tat is the most impressive athlete since Jim Thorpe. Tat drops down on BA then slams him. Tat hits another slam then dropkicks him. Tatanka does an inset promo. He says he vows to take the Indian nation wisdom to get to the top of the WWF. Tat had some extra facepaint on during that.

Tat lariats over BA. Tat hits chops then 2nd rope chops him. Tat hits a samoan drop for the win.

Thoughts: It was all squash here with BA getting nothing in. Tat mostly did some chops in this one. I was surprised they had him do a samoan drop for his finisher as IRS is doing that as his finisher. Maybe they will make a feud out of it.

Vince shills the most recent WBF Magazine.

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney hypes up the 2/29/1992 Boston Garden show. He says it will be Flair/Sid vs Piper/Hulk. Mr. Perfect, Ric Flair and Sid Justice do a promo. Perfect says this is the perfect team. Ric says he's assured of 2 things - he has the biggest and baddest man in the WWF and they will have the power, the finesse, the brains and there will be no place for Piper to run and hide. Sid says they will find out why he's the man that rules the world.

Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan talk. Piper says Flair got himself a goof to team with. Piper says Sid is a big goofball with no guts who is trying to ride off on someone's rep. Hulk says on his best day, he couldn't lace their boots. Hulk says he thought he would wrestle Piper for the title. He says if you thought Hulkamania was something, wait until you see Piper. Piper says "nothing" to Hulk's "whatcha gonna do?" line.

Vince shills Suburban Commando.

Irwin R. Schyster and Ted Dibiase vs Larry Williams and Jimmy James

This is the Superstars debut of IRS and Ted Dibiase as a team though they aren't called Money Inc. yet. IRS says it's true that things are bigger in Texas. He says some of the biggest tax cheats are found here in Texas.

IRS takes James down then hits a punch off the headlock. IRS bangs James head off the buckles and James takes a double back elbow. Ted suplexes James and Perfect says IRS and Ted compliment each other nice. James is thrown into the corner and tags out.

Larry gets in and is knee'd then clubbed on. Ted lariats Larry then bangs his head off of IRS' boot. Larry is thrown into the corner. IRS butterfly suplexes him and hits elbow drops. Ted 2nd rope double axe handles Larry then fist drops him. Ted then backbrekers him and pulls him up on the pin attempt.

IRS 2nd rope punches Larry then legdrops him in the crotch. Ted powerslams Larry. He puts him in the million dollar dream but lets go of it. IRS then hits a samoan drop on Larry and wins.

Thoughts: Perfect really put over what a good team these two are. It was all squash here with the jobbers getting nothing in.

Ted puts money in Larry's mouth but then takes it out.

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney hypes up the next Worchester Centrum show with British Bulldog vs The Undertaker and Ric Flair vs Roddy Piper in a champion vs champion match in a cage.

The Legion of Doom do a promo on The Nasty Boys. Animal says The Nasty's need to get ready. He says they want to win the tag titles but no one has beaten them yet. Hawk says they beat them before but they keep coming back for more beatin'.

The Undertaker and Paul Bearer do a promo. Paul says he's been studying English burial customs and can't wait for Bulldog's body to get shipped back to England. Taker says Bulldog uses the name of the beast and says it's kill or be killed with the nature of the beast. He tells him to rest in peace.

The hosts talk about past Mania moments.

Wrestlemania VIII Report

Mean Gene Okerlund says tickets have been bought in 29 countries. He talks about the card. Sid Justice does a promo. He says Hulk took the easy way out at The Rumble and says Hulk went to Tunney to get out of facing him at SNME. Sid says Hulk proved he's nothing but a coward. He says he will prove it at Mania. He tells Hulk to go to Brutus and see how it feels to be at his feet. He says he will twist Hulk's face into a million pieces. He says the fans will then see that he rules the world.

Hulk Hogan does a promo. He says his mind is starting to think different he's more aggressive than before. He says Sid's in the hot seat and has been in deeper trouble than anyone else. He says it makes him shake when he thinks of what Sid could have done to Brutus. Hulk says Sid left him for dead. He says Sid will feel the power of Hulkamania like no one else has before.

Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair do a promo. Perfect asks what makes Macho so macho and what makes him a man and a savage. He says when you put those words together, Macho comes up a loser against Flair. Flair says Macho came up with his name himself as no fans or women call him that.  Flair says they know something Flair doesn't know.

Macho Man Randy Savage does a promo. He says when the bell rings, he will take it for Flair. He says he has been there before. He asks if Flair knows what he's all about and says he will at Mania. Macho says he's been given a golden opportunity to take back what is his. He says he will take it all the way and become champ. He says it'll be the challenge of Flair's life.

We then see clips of Macho Man Randy Savage vs Jake Roberts at Saturday Night's Main Event. We see footage after the show. Jake is waiting for Macho and Miss Elizabeth in the curtain in the back. Jake says one of them will get hit with a chair and he doesn't care which one.

Jake winds up to hit them but The Undertaker grabs the chair. Macho Man then nails Jake with the chair and they get their fight broken up. Vince says "what a son of a b-tch" that of course is bleeped out. We see The Undertaker and Paul Bearer looking down as Jake yells in pain.

Thoughts: Well this one was a surprise and was probably why they changed the Boston Garden match earlier in the show. Like a lot of things in the WWF at this time, despite them having ample time to do run big angles, they just do them at the spur of the moment. We will need some explanation for this one because it doesn't make much sense. Taker and Jake ruined Macho's wedding and they had no concern for attacking either one of them then. What changed?

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney hypes up the 2/29/1992 Boston Garden show. Sgt. Slaughter and Jim Duggan do a promo. Sarge says Typhoon is full of wind and says Earthquake is cracked. Jim says this will be a fight and not a technical wrestling match.

Ted Dibiase does a promo on El Matador. He says the match will be no time limit. Ted says he knows Tito and his people spend time taking siesta's. He says time is money and he doesn't have that mentality. He says Tito must be out of his mind to get in the ring with him with no time limit. He says Tito got out last time by the skin of his teeth and says he goes down this time.

Next week's show has more matches for Mania, The New Foundation, Papa Shango, The Repo Man and Jake the Snake on The Funeral Parlor.

Overall thoughts: As always, there was nothing of interest going on wrestling wise. The Undertaker essentially turning on Jake Roberts is big news but sadly, there was no real build or reason for it and it just didn't make much sense with their history at the time. Other than that, this was all about shilling for Wrestlemania as that is clearly going to be the focus from now on. I wouldn't really recommend this one as I didn't think it was that good inside or outside of the ring.
