WWF Superstars of Wrestling 5/25/1991
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/10/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-5181991.html
Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper and Macho Man Randy Savage welcome us to the show. Macho wants a moment of silence for Memorial Day.
Mr. Perfect vs Jim Evans
Perfect shoves Jim back. They talk about Winston and Macho says Winston the Bulldog could find himself on the end of a perfectplex someday. Jim side headlocks him and Perfect hiptosses him. Perfect pulls the neck forward. Winston does a inset promo and he just raises his paw. Perfect standing dropkicks Jim. Perfect running forearms Jim over. Perfect hits a perfectplex and wins.
Thoughts: It was a short squash as expected here with Jim getting little in. Winston being in the inset promo was something different.
WWF Update
Mean Gene Okerlund talks about Supertape Vol. 4 with Warrior vs Sarge and Heenan vs Boss Man. Gene talks about Andre the Giant rejecting Sherri, Slick and Heenan as managers. We see Mr. Fuji trying to recruit Andre at a restaurant. He says he wants to make him rich and teach him to be devious and mean. Andre says he's not sure he wants to be that way and wants a reason for it. Fuji says he can make more money - millions and millions of dollars. Fuji brings out a cake for Andre and laughs. Andre pushes Fuji's head in the cake and everyone laughs. Lord Alfred Hayes and Arnold Skaaland laugh in the background.
Tugboat vs Warren Bianchi
Vince says Fuji's face was put in the cake to make gorilla cookies.
Fuji backs up War in the corner. War boots him, eye rakes him and hits forearms. Tug no sells it and bangs War's head off the buckles. Tug corner lariats War. Tug does an inset promo. hE says the fish in the WWF are getting bigger, meaner and stronger. He says when they mix it up with him, it'll be like a sardine mixing it up with a great white shark. Tug back body drops War then slams him.
Tug corner splashes War and Piper brings up how Tug likes to make a lot of sea references. Tug lariats War then splashes him for the win. Macho calls Tug "The Candyman" on the replay due to his stripes.
Thoughts: Warren did a good job of putting Tug over here, taking a nice back body drop bump and eating a big lariat.
We see a photo of the most recent Bodybuilding Lifestyles magazine with Troy Zuccolotto on it. Troy talks while working out. He says he'll be competing against the top bodybuilders in the world. He said he's not worried though as Hulk gave him some tips on his bicep workout and said those guys don't stand a chance now.
Col. Mustafa vs George Anderson
Sarge and Adnan are with Col. Sarge gets in George's face. Jim Duggan does an inset promo. He says when he sees Sarge's crew doing what they do, it makes him sick and he's one proud American who will do something about it. Col gutwrench suplexes George then backdrops him. Col camel clutches George and taps him out to win.
Thoughts: It was a quick one with George getting nothing in. Col just stuck to suplexes here.
George is thrown out after.
WWF Event Center
Texas Tornado does a promo. He says he knew he would have friends and enemies here but says it doesn't matter. He says what matters is how many people are behind you and pushing you to be #1. He says he has a burning desire not to be beaten or stopped by anyone. He says he will be the next champ.
The Orient Express and Mr. Fuji do a promo. Fuji says he's proud of them and says his dojo is strict. Tanaka says they have been training hard for every tag team in the WWF.
Bret Hart vs Gary Wilde
Gary's got a good look with a tan, long blonde hair and muscles and is actually bigger than Bret is. He should not be getting squashed. Gary shoves Bret back then hits corner spears. Gary is sent into the buckles then takes a hiptoss Bret lariats him then boots him in the gut. Bret elbow drops Gary then slams him. Bret legdrops Gary then russian legsweeps him. Bret drops him with a punch.
Bret eye rakes him and side slams him. Bret then sharpshooters him and taps him out.
Thoughts: It was a quick squash here with Gary not getting much in but a shove. Bret had different gear on here than usual that looked like it wasn't finished. He had the skull and heart design on one knee pad and rear then had black boots with pink stripes.
WWF Event Center
Irwin R. Schyster does a promo. He says when you go to sleep, he's still awake and when you wake up, he's already awake. He says he works 7 days a week, 365 days a year. He says when you deal with the IRS, you are going to pay the punishment. He says no one is above his law in the WWF and says when dealing with the IRS, you are gonna lose.
The British Bulldog does a promo with Winston. He says the managers are trying to put the top contenders against him, citing Haku, Warlord and now Barbarian challening him. He says he will go through all of Heenan's men until he gets to Mr. Perfect. He says he wants want Perfect has and says him and Winston will take the IC belt.
The Nasty Boys vs Buck Zumhofe and Red Tyler
Knobbs hits forearms on Buck and elbow drops him. Buck gets sent to pity city then Saggs eye rakes Buck on the ropes. Jimmy Hart and The Nasty Boys do an inset promo. Hart says The LOD are a big joke. Knobbs says when you step into the ring with them, you are fools.
Buck's head is banged off the buckles. Saggs slaps Red. Red takes a side slam then an elbow drop from Knobbs. Red is pounded on by both opponents in the corner. Saggs corner splashes Red.
Knobbs powerslams Red then Saggs hits a top rope elbow drop on Red to win.
Thoughts: Saggs' top rope elbow drop looked like it hurt. It was a quick squash here with The Nasties bullying the jobbers around.
The Bushwhackers talk about WWF ice cream bars. They go nut as usual and make a mess. Butch then rubs the ice cream in Luke's face and licks it.
The Funeral Parlor
Paul Bearer welcomes us. He says the average human associates death with darkness, evil and the unknown. He says his guest walks in darkness - Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
Paul says Jake had a death in his family recently and asked if he had a funeral service or if he buried Damien in the pet cemetery. He asks if he had a choir and if he sang or cried. Paul says he's a master in restorative art and says the next time Earthquake gets Jake, he might need a double sized casket.
Jake asks if he's afraid of anything. Jake says you don't have to fear death, you have to fear the living because those are the ones that will hurt you. Jake says Paul doesn't have a box big enough for Earthquake. Jake said growing up he learned that the first breath he takes gets him one step closer to the last breath.
Jake tells Paul that he needs to build a bigger casket for Lucifer. Paul says it's just fine. Paul looks in the casket and Lucifer is in there. Paul yells "snake" and runs. Jake says the scariest things do show up in mysterious places and says him and Lucifer are very bad boys.
Thoughts: This was unusual as as always. Jake having Lucifer in the casket was an interesting touch to liven things up a bit.
The Mountie vs Ricky Rice
Mountie boots Rice and half-nelsons him. He then bangs his head off the buckles while keeping the half-nelson on. the Mountie and Jimmy Hart talk about Memorial Day. Mountie says the only memorial will be a statue of him in Cobb County, referencing Boss Man's hometown.
Mountie pulls Rice by the ears and hair then claws him. Mountie throws him over. Mountie grabs him by the throat and presses him down to win.
Thoughts: It was the usual bad Mountie squash. They have him doing almost no holds or moves and just roughing people up in various ways. I guess it is put over his persona but it doesn't make for good matches.
Rick is handcuffed to the ropes after and paint brushes him. Mountie says he has the right to remain silent. He says anything he says will be held against him in his court of law. He then zaps him with the shock stick and says, "I am The Mountie".
The Rockers vs Bob Bradley and Al Burke
Bob and Marty go at it. Bob chest clubs him and Marty sunset flips him for 2. Marty hits punches then armdrags him. Shawn back elbows Bob off the 2nd rope then flying back elbows him. Shawn neckbreakers Al and Marty rocker droppers Bob. Marty and Shawn do stereo top rope fist drops and get the win.
Thoughts: It was a quick one here with The Rockers not even busting out a lot of their usual offense.
WWF Event Center
Power and Glory do a promo with Slick. Roma says anyone who thinks they can step in the ring with them - bad move. Slick asks about Legion of Doom, Bushwhackers or The Rockers. He says it makes no difference as they are #1 in the WWF. He says they are here to stay.
The Big Boss Man does a promo. He says he has stood tall and proud since he came to the WWF. He says he's the justice in the WWF and talks about Mountie. He says Mountie jumped him from behind and used the shock stick on him. He tells him to get ready to serve hard time.
Jimmy Hart does a promo and says he has a big announcement. He says it will rock and shock the WWF and laughs. Piper thinks Hart is getting out of wrestling and Macho says he hasn't got it figured out yet.
Overall thoughts: It wasn't a good show. All of the squashes were quick. There was no Warrior or Hulk on this one and the highlight was Andre shoving Mr. Fuji's head in a cake. I am curious as to what Jimmy Hart's big announcement is though. I would not recommend this one.
