Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/05/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-1131990.html
Vince McMahon introduces Roddy Piper as a man who has taken too many bumps to the head. Piper comes in with a ghost costume. He says Jake Roberts returns to Brother Love haunted by his eye sight. Piper said Rick Martel made a grave mistake. He throws a pumpkin and says it's not the only thing that will get cracked. He then grabs Vince and says "let's get rowdy".
Demolition vs George Henderson, Jim Brunzell and Jim Evans
Demolition comes out with their heel entrance theme, dropping their more famous song. They are also wearing masks in the ring for the first time. Vince said the word was that there would be some surprises from this week.
Ax and Jim go at it. Ax clubs on him, snapmares him then twists his head. Ax back elbows Jim. Demolition does an inset promo. They say just when you think you got all the answers, they change the questions, showing off their new in-ring masks. Piper asks where has he heard that before (it's one of his lines).
Smash hits one of his opponents in the corner then slams him. Smash hits a double axe handle flurry. Crush gorilla presses a jobber in then the jobber is thrown into the buckle. The other jobber gets his head banged off 2 Demo boots in the corner. Crush hits a nice belly to belly then Ax twists a jobber's head. Smash pounds on a jobber then they hit demolition decapitation. Demolition then picks up the pin.
If they are going to keep doing the switcheroo tactic, then it makes sense for Demolition to wear similar masks. But, I always found it weird that the Demo's wore masks since their face paint was such a big part of their look and character. I was kind of hoping for more of an explanation as to why they chose to do this though.
The Brother Love Show
Rick Martel is with Brother Love. He said he couldn't miss the opportunity to apologize to Jake for that "unfortunate accident". Rick asks if the crowd knows its an accident and the crowd doesn't buy it. Rick says that "stupid, blundering fool" stepped into the smell. He said he feels sorry for Jake and said he could tell he needs help. He said since he's so loving and kind, he got him a gift for the vision impaired. It then turns out to be a cane and Rick mocks a blind person walk. Vince calls him a creep and says how low can you go? He calls it deplorable. Love says he will give it to his guest.
Jake Roberts comes out guided by Tony Garea. Jake has trouble walking up the steps. Love keeps touching him and Jake knocks his hand away. Jake is facing the set the wrong way. Jake says he can't see well but he can hear things and asks the crowd where he is at.
Love takes his glasses off and tells him to take them off too to make it even. Jake says he can't as the light burns his eyes and tells Love to knock the crap off. Love walks around him as he walks to confuse him then Love gives Jake the cane. Jake swings it at Love and misses. Love tells him to wait just a minute. Jake says he better wait. He said he may have taken the one thing a man needs to see the beauty of life. He said if you show him the spot, it's an eye for an eye.
Rick Martel comes out. He tells Jake if he wants him, here he he is. Rick asks if he can see what he looks like. Rick then hits Jake and officials come out to help. Jake grabs Love and ddt's him on the set. We then see one of Jake's eyes and it's all white with no pupils or anything.
The heels were such jerks here. This was a real effective angle that just made you hate the heels and definitely was in questionable taste.
"The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith vs The Brooklyn Brawler
This is Bulldog's Superstars return to the WWF. He pushes Brawler then shoves him out of the ring. Bulldog does an inset promo. He said he's back and can't wait to sink his teeth in WWF action. Brawler boots Bulldog then Bulldog hits a nice dropkick. Bulldog suplexes him then chinlocks him.
Brawler eye pokes him then rakes his eyes across the top rope. Brawler hits corner spears then Bulldog monkey flips him. Bulldog corner lariats him then hits a running powerslam for the win.
It was an okay squash here, though I wouldn't have done it right after the Jake angle. I always thought Bulldog leaving the WWF was weird.
Mean Gene Okerlund is with kids at the Survivor Series turkey egg. Gene asks what's in the egg. A kid says balloons, one says turkey's and one says a chicken. Gene said he can't wait to see what's in the egg.
They cut the WWF Event Center on this version of the show and clips of Macho/Dusty from Saturday Night's Main Event. I reviewed "Macho King" Randy Savage vs Dusty Rhodes here - https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/04/wwf-saturday-nights-main-event-28.html
Ted Dibiase, Virgil and Sapphire do a promo. Ted is shocked that Dustin Rhodes is challenging him and asked if he had enough. He said like father like son and rips him for trying to do something his dad couldn't. He said he wouldn't last 10 minutes with him and laughs.
The Rockers vs "Playboy" Buddy Rose and Kent Carlson
Piper calls The Rockers "The Tag Team of the 90's". This is Shawn's Superstars return after his injury.
Rose dives for Shawn's leg and misses. Rose offers a handshake and gets caught trying to boot him. Shawn atomic drops him and Rose drops down. Shawn hits a punch flurry then bulldogs him. Power and Glory do an inset promo. Herc says it's not Shawn Michaels' knee that's the problem, it's his head. Roma says The Rockers don't have the stomach to fight them.
Marty bangs Rose's head off the buckles then flying back elbows him. Marty snapmares Kent then fist drops him. Shawn spinning neckbreakers Kent then suplexes him. Marty hits a rocker dropper on Kent. Kent takes a double slingshot suplex then Rose takes a double superkick. Shawn suplex drops Marty on Ken to get the pin as Rose is knocked out.
It was an entertaining squash as always with The Rockers.
Shawn says "guess who's back?" after and we cut to Piper wearing the ghost costume at the desk with Vince.
WWF Update with Mean Gene Okerlund
They mention the WWF Hottest Matches VHS which I reviewed here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/04/wwf-hotttest-matches.html
Gene said Jack Tunney issued a statement on Heenan and Rude's comments about Boss Man's mother. He's in his office and says he is indefinitely suspending Rick Rude from active participation in the WWF. He said he is censoring all remarks from Heenan towards Boss Man's mother. He said Heenan must fullfill all of Rude's match obligations against The Big Boss Man. He said failure to do this will result in a lifetime suspension.
Bobby Heenan replies. He said it was joke and didn't mean it. He said Boss Man's mom is a lovely and beautiful woman. He said he can't get in the ring with Boss. Boss doesn't want to wrestle him, he wants to hurt him and finish him off. Heenan begs for mercy.
Gene said they left the camera's on after Heenan was done and said we should decide of he was sincere or not. We then see Heenan walk right off as soon as he said this and it looked like he was dropping the act. Gene says Rude is out and Heenan is in. He said Heenan will have to figure out what he is in for.
Rude left the WWF at this time, so that's why this happened. He wouldn't wrestle again for 7 months and tried to wrestle for the UWF but Vince McMahon blocked it. I don't really know what happened but there was nowhere to go but down after losing to Warrior, so it would make sense for him to leave.
The Warlord vs Brad Kramer
War throws him off the lock-up. Vince calls War a monster then War flying shoulders Brad. War does something like a powerbomb then short arm clotheslines him. War then hits a running powerslam and gets the win.
It was just a quick squash with Brad getting nothing in.
Survivor Series Report with Mean Gene Okerlund
Gene says the egg will hatch at Survivor Series. Gene says The Vipers (Jake Roberts, Jimmy Snuka and The Rockers) vs The Visionaries (Rick Martel, Warlord and Power and Glory) will take place at the show in a new match. The Hulkamaniacs vs The Natural Disasters 4v4 match has been changed as Haku will take the place of Rick Rude. Gene runs down the rest of the card.
The Big Boss Man vs Tony Burton
Boss side headlocks him then shoulders him over. Boss step up enzugiri's him. The Big Boss Man does an inset promo. He said he doesn't accept Heenan's apology and said no begging will stop this thing now. He said he can't wait to get his hands on him.
Boss hits shots to the gut and drops Tony. Boss leg lariats Tony on the ropes then spinebusters him for the win.
It was a quick squash here with Tony getting nothing in.
They say Dustin Rhodes vs Ted Dibiase is signed for next week in a 10 minute match.
The WWF Event Center Segment is cut off.
Piper and Vince talk. Piper says Dustin will last 10 minutes against Ted Dibiase.
Dusty and Dustin does a promo. He said it became personal when Ted laid out Dustin. He said he will show that dustin can last 10 minutes. Dusty said he's 6'5, 265lbs and proud. He said he will show that he can last 10 minutes.
We then see someone else is in the ghost costume and we see Piper go up to him with a noose. Vince asks who was it and Piper says "The Boogerman".
Overall thoughts: The British Bulldog returned here and Demolition debuted their in-ring masks and heel theme. Rude's out of the WWF and Shawn Michaels is back from injury. So all of that makes it fairly notable news wise. The matches were all squashes here with the jobbers getting nothing. It wasn't exactly must see but it had some notable happenings.
