All Japan Pro Wrestling 4/27/2024 Champion Carnival 2024 Day 5

Day 4 is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/04/all-japan-pro-wrestling-4242024.html

Omori tries to low blow him but can't reach it then Ren dragon suplexes him. The ref gets in the way. Omori low blows Ren then pins him with a flying headscissors.

It was a nothing match. Ren beat up on Omori as expected. Omori blatantly cheated in front of the ref then won.

Champion Carnival 2024 Block B - Hideki Suzuki vs Hartley Jackson

Hart shoulders him over and poses. HS then goes for a submission while Hart isn't looking. HS pounds on him then takes chops. They trade in the corner and HS hits elbows to the back of the neck. Hart trips him and ties up the leg.

They trade forearms and HS knees him in the face. Hart chops him down then corner splashes him. Hart hiptosses him then splashes him. Hart hits a big lariat for 2. Hart headbutts him then HS fights back with punches and a cobra twist. HS grounds him with it and taps him out.

It was a short match but I liked it. It felt like they were really going at it here. It also went short so Suzuki's weaknesses weren't exposed.

Champion Carnival 2024 Block A - Kento Miyahara vs Cyrus

Cyrus throws rails during his entrance. Cyrus pushes him back on the lock-up then Kento hits forearms on the ropes. Cyrus shoulders him over then is pulled over the top. Kento face kicks him outside then Cyrus throws him into the rails.  Cyrus headbutts him in the chest outside and throws him into rails. Cyrus stands on him then kicks him over while he's in a chair.

Cyrus pop-up headbutts him outside then lariats him while he sits in a chair. Kento's head is banged off a chair then he is choked with the leg of it. Cyrus chops him on the rails. Cyrus misses a vader bomb then blocks a sunset flip. Kento pumping knees him then rolls him up out of the corner for the win.

It was a little longer and redundant than what it needed to be with Cyrus dominating before Kento being him. It was not the greatest stuff ever from Cyrus but it was suitable and worked.

Cyrus throws the ring steps and chairs after, breaking one of them

Suwama and Body start us off. They lock up. Suwama hits some shots and side headlocks him. They shoulder battle and Body knocks him over. Doi and Rising get in. Doi face kicks him then Rising spinning headscissors him. Doi ends up going out then Rising plancha's him. Yuma stomps Doi then Doi dropkicks him in the knee.

Ryo spinning enzugiri's Body then spin kicks him for 2. Ryo hits forearms then Body high kicks him for 2. Body lariats him then submits him with a camel clutch.

It was an okay throwaway trios match here. I was surprised Body got the submission since he's not a full-time AJPW guy. Ryo had a good comeback here with some dropkicks.

Champion Carnival 2024 Block A - Kuroshio TOKYO Japan vs Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Jiro goofs around during his entrance, bringing Seigo out and bringing fan made signs for him in the ring.

They lock up and Jiro is thrown back and thrown off him. Jiro eye pokes him and is shouldered over twice. DBS hits shots on him outside then Jiro slingshot double stomps him. Jiro hits mounted punches then DBS slams him.

DBS chinlocks him then makes fly into the corner on a dropkick. DBS throws him on a release double underhook suplex. DBS grounded abdominal stretches him and Jiro ropebreaks. They trade shots and Jiro hits jacket punches.

Jiro rolls him up for 2 twice. DBS blocks a hurricanrana and hits a sitout powerbomb to win.

It was okay with Jiro doing his flying and DBS being the bigger guy. It wasn't the best match possible but it was okay

Jun running spears him. Honda cradles him then fireman's carries him for 2. Jun runs through a lariat and chokeslams Honda. Jun lariats him. Honda germans him then Jun running knees him in the back. Jun jackhammers him and gets the win.

It was decent and showed some signs of breaking out into something better, then it ended. This match was designed for about another 5-10 minutes of action and ended before we really got any of it. Honda also oversold during this one dragging the match down.

Champion Carnival 2024 Block B - Rei Saito vs Yuma Anzai

Yuma backs him up on the ropes then Rei does the same with a clean break. They shoulder battle and Rei knocks him over. Rei misses an elbow drop then takes a basement dropkick. Yuma sleepers him then hits forearms. Rei puts him on the apron and Yuma ends up going down to the floor.

Rei misses a crossbody then Yuma running knees him. Rei blocks a flying knee then lariats Yuma over. Yuma no sells it and germans him. They trade shots and Rei crossbodies him for 2. Yuma rolls him up and facelocks him. Yuma flying knees him for 2 then Rei does a samoan drop style move.

They trade forearms for chops then trade headbutts. Rei hits big slaps then chokeslams him for 2. Rei hits a big lariat and gets the win.

It was a good match. Rei beatdown Yuma for most of the match and the outside fighting section dragged. The finish was good though with them trading headbutts and Rei slapping him before finishing him off. I thought Yuma going to get a big comeback in and wins this one but he didn't. I'd like to see them run this one back again and I really think Rei could maybe be the Vader to Yuma's Sting if they did it right.

Overall thoughts: It was about a 6 out of 10. There was nothing too great here but it had a lot of okay matches. The main was the best thing on the show. I wouldn't recommend this though.
