WWF Saturday Night's Main Event #28 10/13/1990

WWF Saturday Night's Main Event #28 10/13/1990

The last SNME is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/03/wwf-saturday-nights-main-event-27.html

We are at Oktoberfest here at the Fischer Platz in Frankenmuth, Michigan with all the wrestlers in German attire.

Vince McMahon welcomes us to the show and brings Roddy Piper in. Piper has no shirt on but has suspenders and a German hat. He said he hopes Koko sends Sarge and Adnan back to Baghdad tonight. He says Dusty Rhodes will knock Macho King off his throne. He says Jimmy Hart will have Quake and Bravo around in the Hulk/Tugboat vs Rhythm and Blues match. Piper says Demolition is like United Germany while The Ultimate Warrior and Legion of Doom are like oil and water.

Demolition do a promo. Ax says they are in a real partying mood and will celebrate Oktoberfest Demolition-style. Smash says he will put Animal's finger and knuckles right off. Crush says he will rip of Hawk's eyebrows. Ax said he will turn Warrior upside down and kick something of his into the front row.

The Legion of Doom and The Ultimate Warrior do a promo.  Animal says if Demolition wants to play, they are the original party animals. Animal says this is one Oktoberfest they won't forget. They said they won't be going to the haufbraus, they'll be going to the hospital.  Hawk says they did cost Demolition the tag titles and ask what they will do about it. He asks if they will cry in their beer, sob in their schnitzel or whimper over their wiener. Animal says they have their own u-boat in the Ultimate Warrior. Warrior yells "blitzkrieg, blitzkrieg" then LOD join in. This was a funny and creative promo.

Demolition vs The Ultimate Warrior and The Legion of Doom

The faces hit triple lariats on Demolition before this even starts, knocking them out. Vince correctly calls it a blitzkrieg. Dustin Rhodes is shown in the first row and they point him out.

Smash lariats Animal when he isn't looking and hits double axe handles. Smash chokes him over the 2nd rope then hits punches to the gut. Animal powerslams Smash for 2 then elbow drops him. Ax and Warrior get in. Warrior hits boots to the gut then boots him out of the corner. Warrior shoulders him over then running clotheslines him. Smash and Crush then get slammed as well.

Warrior slams Ax then misses a splash. Smash hits double axe handles on Warrior then throws him out. Crush bangs Warrior's head off the apron and hits him in the throat. Ax holds Warrior for a double axe handle off the top from Crush. Warrior is triple teamed in the corner and Animal breaks it up. Smash lariats Animal from behind and sends him out.

Hawk stops a demolition decapitation then he is tagged in. Hawk back elbows Smash then flying shoulders him. Hawk fist drops him then hits a top rope clothesline. Warrior tags in and hits lariats on Smash. 4 of the 6 fight outside and Warrior flying shoulders Smash. Warrior splashes Smash and gets the win.

It was a shorter match at sub-10 minutes but I liked it. It was real fast paced here and I thought making Warrior the face in peril here was the right call. I would have liked for it to go longer as we didn't get to see much of anyone outside of Warrior.

Mean Gene and the wrestlers are at Oktoberfest. Everyone's dancing and having fun here. Bushwhacker Butch has his hat in his mouth and Bret has his trademark glasses on. Lord Alfred Hayes is trying out the beer and says it's not as good as the English stuff.

"Macho King" Randy Savage vs Dusty Rhodes

Piper talks about king's and brings up Don King and Larry King. Dusty hugs his son Dustin at ringside. Macho runs out of the ring when Dusty enters. Macho grabs an Ultimate Warrior poster from a fan and rips it up.

Dusty grabs Macho while he's on the apron and hits him. Dusty sends him into the buckles and Macho rakes the eyes.  Dusty backslides him then back elbows him. Sherri gets on the apron and Dusty has words for her. Dusty takes a knee to the back then Sherri chokes Dusty.

Macho knee drops Dusty then hits punches and an eye rake. Macho sleepers Dusty. Ted Dibiase and Virgil come to the front row. They buy the seats off of fans and try to buy Dustin's seat too. Dustin rips up the money and throws it at Virgil. Virgil and Ted sit next to Dustin.

Dusty shoulders Macho then Ted pulls Dustin down from getting up. Dusty goes to grab Ted and the ref stops him. We go to break and return. Macho is hitting elbows on Dusty then eye rakes him. Sherri chokes Dusty with a glove then Macho pulls Dusty's throat down over the top. Macho top rope double axe handles Dusty for 2.

Macho punches and eye rakes Dusty but Dusty hits shots back. Dusty bangs Macho's head off the top buckle. Macho misses a leg lariat on the 2nd rope and falls back. Dusty headbutts him and gets a two count. They trade punches on their knees and Macho gets hit coming off the top. Dustin is pulled down by Ted then Dustin hits Ted. Ted knocks Dustin over the rail into ringside and Dustin takes a 2v1.

Dusty knocks Macho down and ties him in the ropes. Dustin takes a chair to the head then Dusty see's what is going on and helps out Dustin. Macho top rope double axe handles Dusty. Dusty gets counted out.

Dustin is bloodied outside and takes a 2v1. Dusty covers his son then gets beaten up on. The refs then pull Ted and Virgil away. Dusty screams "nooo" and Ted says everybody has a price and everybodies gonna pay.

I liked the match. Macho cheated all throughout here and Dusty made his comeback. There was a lot going on here with the shenanigans at ringside. I was really surprised they didn't bring Sapphire out for this one. This match really should have been Ted vs Dusty since they had been feuding and I had already thought they did enough to build up to that match.

Tugboat and Hulk Hogan are interviewed by Sean Mooney. Hulk said they won't celebrate Oktoberfest until they settle the score with Quake, Bravo and that "teeny wiener-schnitzel" Jimmy Hart. Hulk says they are taking the autobahn tonight, going peddle to the metal. He said Rhythm and Blues won't be playing guitars but will be playing german instruments (I can't spell them, I'm not trying but it was hilarious.

Tugboat says they really wanted Dino Bravo and Quake tonight. He said Quake squashing them was like the Hindenburg on their chest. They said they are earthquake proof and said if they have to go through R&B to get to them, it's wunderbar. Hulk says it's D-Day dude and the allies have landed. Hulk says they won't be facing The Guns of Navarone (a film), they will face the 24 inch pythons, the largest guns in the world. They ask what they will do when heir Hulkster and heir Tugboat bavarian cream them.

Whoa. This was an awesome promo. There were so many references to German culture here and they mentioned a bunch of stuff I never heard of. Stuff like this was what was great about these themed SNME shows. They gave them some different things to play around with and gave us some creative and unique promos that we wouldn't get otherwise. Hulk was at his best here and was having a blast with this one.

I am actually on Tug's side though and don't get why they are facing Rhythm and Blues instead of Quake and Bravo.

We go to the cheese factory at Oktoberfest with Mean Gene and The Bushwhackers. The Bushwhackers are playing around with cheese knifes and say they are cutting the cheese. Butch says nobody cuts the bloody cheese as good as Luke does and they make that joke multiple times. They try different types of cheese's. Butch has a cheese hat on and takes a bite of it saying it's head cheese.

Lord Alfred Hayes now says the beer is quite nice and reminds him of a cruise. He seems drunk now.

Hulk Hogan and Tugboat vs Rhythm and Blues

We only saw the tail end of R&B's entrance here. Hulk and Tug had separate entrances here. Hulk does Tug's horn sound. Honky knees and punches Hulk. Hulk is double teamed in the corner then Hulk hits a double lariat. Hulk bangs the heels' heads together and sends Greg into Tug's boot. Honky then goes into it as well.

Greg takes punches from both opponents and Tug yanks on Greg's arm. Hulk 2nd rope double axe handles Greg's arm then Tug does the same while standing. Greg eye rakes Tug and hits chops. Greg elbows Tug in the head then Tug bearhugs Honky. Greg breaks it up.

Greg elbow drops Tug then Honky double axe handles Tug. Tug is beat up more by the heels then Honky eye rakes Tug.  The heels miss a double elbow drop and Hulk gets in. Hulk hits shots on both opponents then decks Jimmy Hart on the apron. The heels heads are banged together and Greg flops down. Hart runs to the back, likely to grab Quake and Bravo.

Hulk elbow drops Greg then pounds on him. Hulk back elbows Greg then boots him Earthquake and Dino Bravo head down as officials try to stop them. We go to break and return. Quake and Bravo are gone. Greg takes a double clothesline then Tug headbutts Greg. Tug corner splashes Greg. Tug grabs Jimmy Hart then Honky hits Tug with his guitar. Tug takes a huge bump over the top.

Hulk pounds on both opponents then gorilla presses Hart onto them. Dino Bravo gets in then Quake follows. Hulk initially fights off the 1v3 then takes a 1v5 with Hart helping out. Quake powerslams Hulk then hits an assisted splash on Hulk. Hulk is held down by 4 people. Quake goes for the butt drop but Tug hits him with Honky's guitar. Tug hits the other heels with it and they run off.

Well, I'm glad R&B didn't lose here. They did little but punch and elbow the faces. It was an average match. I thought the finish would have worked better if Dino and Quake didn't already try to come out beforehand.

We go back to Oktoberfest. We have a sausage stuffing contest between Hacksaw Jim Duggan and The Hart Foundation vs The Orient Express. The Genius is also there in a blonde wig for some reason. Genius says he's a master of stuffing sausage. He said inferior intelligence should stop The Hart Foundation. Mr. Fuji pulls out a fully packed sausage, obviously cheating. We cut to Lord Alfred Hayes who is drunk and the wrestlers argue about the sausage contest.

WWF Intercontinental Title - "Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich vs Haku

If you only watched Superstars like I did, you would have no idea how Haku got this shot since he hadn't been on TV or really mentioned lately. Heenan says Kerry can give him the title now and call it even, because he will get hurt.

Kerry hits an armdrag and slam to start then goes for the iron claw. Haku slips out. Haku whips him into the buckles then does a high chinlock. Heenan appears to be looking for a weapon in his pants. Kerry gets some shots in and is eye raked. Haku hits corner spears then headbutts and chokes him.

Kerry hits some punches then iron claws him. Kerry lets the hold go and discus punches him for the win.

I thought Haku should have been a little more protected here. Kerry got the win in a short match that was pretty limited.

Sean Mooney interviews Hulk Hogan and Tugboat again. Hulk is asked about his injuries from tonight. Hulk says he's steady and said maybe they took some water on the Port Vale. Hulk says him and Tug had to take on the whole Hart Family. Tug said he was a full-fledged battleship out there and said he wished he had taken on the full family. Hulk said we have a war at sea and they are declaring war on The Hart Family. Hulk said R&B won't be strumming the guitars anymore and said they will swab the decks with Quake and Dino. He said they will make them walk the planks and push them over the edge. He said they will sink 20,000 leagues under the sea and said they will be babysitting The Bismarck.

Sgt. Slaughter vs Koko B. Ware

General Adnan is with Sarge and waving the Iraqi flag. Not much happens early and Adnan says Koko's gonna get it. Sarge misses a shot on the ropes then takes armdrags and hiptosses. Koko can't move Sarge on a shoulderblock then Koko dropkicks him over.

Koko misses a splash and goes down then Sarge clubs Koko's chest. Koko takes a back body drop and Sarge knee drops him. Koko takes a forearm to the spine then Sarge backbreakers him. Koko neckbreakers him then hits dropkicks. Koko headbutts him then Sarge stunguns him. Sarge then gives him the atomic noogie and Koko taps out.

The finish was awful here as the atomic noogie was the least lethal finisher ever. It was just a so-so match otherwise with Sarge not providing a lot of entertainment value.

Adnan waves the Iraqi flag after then Nikolai Volkoff waves the US flag. Sarge then waves the Iraqi flag.

We go back to Oktoberfest. Slick and Jim Neidhart are having a dance contest. Lord Alfred Hayes is now super drunk and laughing like a goof. Jim knocks Bret Hart over on accident and he falls into wrestlers. A food fight breaks out with everyone getting messy. Gene then gets hit with a cake in the face to end the segment.

Sean Mooney interviews the Ultimate Warrior. He said he needed not to lower himself by striking Sherri. He said the humiliation just further enrages his legion of warriors. He says when he finds Macho behind Sherri's skirt, Macho will realize he accepted the challenge. He says Macho will experience the full power of The Ultimate Warrior.

Roddy Piper interviews Macho King and Sensational Sherri.  Sherri said she isn't in over her head. She said Warrior is a coward and has sealed his destiny. She said Macho King will take the belt from him then wear the belt with as much pride as he wears the crown. Macho says it's inevitable he will be champ. Sherri says something to Piper and Piper slaps her on the butt, saying "barfignugen".

Piper and Vince run down the results. Gene and Alfred Hayes are at Oktoberfest. Gene is covered in cake. Hayes says he's a mess and was waiting for him to call him. He said Gene polluted everything. Gene says Alfred didn't stick the headset in his ear then Gene hits Alfred with cake.

Piper and Vince say the next SNME is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Piper says he's going to the food fight.

Overall thoughts: The Oktoberfest stuff was a lot of fun and Hulk did a great promo tying in all kinds of German stuff. I liked the opener but the other three matches were nothing special. I didn't really understand some of the booking behind this one as they didn't have matches for the feuds they were building up here like Akeem vs Saba Simba, The Hart Foundation vs Rhythm and Blues and Dusty Rhodes vs Ted Dibiase and SNME was really the only place they would do those outside of PPV's. I would probably give the show a 5 out of 10, mostly for the Oktoberfest stuff.
