Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 3/10/2024

Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 3/10/2024

Last week's show is here:  https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/03/southern-illinois-championship.html

Drew Abbenhaus and Lucky P. Larson are our commentators.

They said Lucky P. Larson was suspended after this. Larson said he's about to be a rich man.

Sean Vincent vs Wrex Amadeus

Larson asks if Wrex is Borat. Glenn Williams puts on Sean's jacket when he takes it off and Larson says he wonders if next time we see Glenn, he will have a full head of hair.

Wrex headlocks Sean then Wrex shoulders him over. Larson asks if we are sure he isn't Borat or Frank Zappa. Wrex takes him down and Glenn hits Wrex over the 2nd rope. Larson calls it "teamwork", saying it's not cheating if the ref doesn't see it. Sean facewash kicks Wrex and Larson says Wrex's first name is "Wolfgang".

Sean elbow drops Wrex then grounded abdominal stretches him. Sean death valley drivers him and gets the win.

It was a quick squash here. Larson was absolutely hilarious here to the point that it was hard to focus on the match.

Glenn and Sean pose after and Larson says that's just beautiful.

We see clips from Big Texan and Bull Bronson vs Payton Ayres and Atila Khan at a recent event. Payton shoulders over Bull then Khan headbutt drops Bull. Khan stabs Bull with a fork and Texan tries to stop it.

Khan and Bull lariat each other down at the same time. Texan hits shots on Khan and ends up lariating Bull on a missed lariat. Texan's head is banged off the buckles then Ayres splashes Texan for the win. Bull watches Texan gets pinned then splashes him, likely due to Texan lariating him. Bull then pounds on Texan with Khan and Ayres. Khan stabs Texan with a fork after. Gary Jackson then runs in and beats off the heels.

They messed up the lariat spot here. There just wasn't enough room and it would have been better if it was a running lariat as it's easier to mess up.

Bull Bronson is interviewed. Drew calls the lariat a miscommunication. Bull said Texan tried to take his head off. He said he was there for Texan and Texan took his head off. Bull said he's been knocking out people for 20 years and his hands are lethal weapons. He said Texan is taking one of his hands when he sees him again.

Billy McNeil vs Waco

Larson sings The Simpsons theme since Billy is from Springfield. Larson asks where's Waco from Drew says he's still from Waco, the place that is written on the back of his shirt. Larson then asks if McNeil is from McNeil. Drew says his name means evening house in German and Larson asks if that means Drew is The Uber Destroyer.

Billy takes down and rolls up Waco. Billy crossbodies Waco then hits knees and forearms. Waco hits a nice lariat then chokes him over the 2nd rope. Waco leg lariats him on the 2nd rope. Waco legdrops Billy for 2 then suplexes him.

Waco slams Billy for 2 then hits headbutts. Billy hits a clothesline and leg lariat. Billy boots him in the corner then 2nd rope meteoras him. Waco is bent over and Billy 2nd rope elbow drops him over the neck.

It wasn't bad. Waco had a nice lariat in here and got some offense in and Billy hit typical babyface offense. Larson was so funny here.

Stephen E. is interviewed with Devastation Inc. Stephen said he loves it when a plan comes together. He said everyone saw Ayres pin Texan. Drew mentions it was with help. Stephen said Herb Simmons is stonewalling him and said his investors are not happy. He said Herb won't return his phone calls and it's not fair. Stephen said at the end of the day, the Saudi investors money rules. He said money is good but Saudi money is even better. Stephen calls Curtis Wylde a punk and said Uber will take care of him.

The Uber Destroyer vs Curtis Wylde

Ron Powers is on commentary. Curtis hits a bunch of shots on Uber to start then Stephen E. trips Curtis. Uber hits shots on Curtis from behind then chokes him. Stephen E. cheapshots Curtis. Uber traphezus holds Curtis then Uber hammerlocks him.

Uber rakes Curtis' face on the ropes and bangs his head off the buckles. Uber stomach claws him then Curtis boots him out of the corner. Curtis hits punches then spears him. Curtis tries to take off Uber's mask then Stephen E gets in. Stephen E fireballs Curtis and Uber is disqualified. Stephen puts the Saudi flag over Curtis. Refs and Drew come over to check on Curtis as he screams. Drew yells to get that flag out of here. Ron Powers comes out to help as well.

It was a good angle here with Curtis getting fireballed. Curtis sold it well after screaming for water.

Wildfire comes out to talk to Drew. She's crying. She said Curtis has burns on his face and he had to be taken out via ambulance. She said everything you see here affects real people. She said she doesn't know what she will tell her kids.

Stephen E. comes out. Wildfire says to stay away. Stephen E. says his investors are going to be so proud of what she did. Stephen E said seeing her tears brings him so much pleasure. He said he's in awe of what they did. Stephen E said if Herb won't negotiate with him, then he can expect to see that every time they are out here. Stephen tells Wildfire where he is from, women cover their faces in public. He said she should take note and do it herself. Wildfire cries and said there's nothing respectable about her. Drew calls this disgusting.

Again, a really strong angle here with Wildfire crying and Stephen E. making it clear why they did this.

Promoters Corner - Kerry Von Erich vs Art Crews

This may be from 12/3/1982. Kerry goes for the takedown then Crews takes him down. Kerry grabs Art's head and arm but Art ropebreaks. They shake hands then Kerry armdrags him. Art armdrags him then Kerry dropkicks him.

Art backs him up in the corner and dirty breaks him with a shot to the gut. Kerry hits punches on Art then jumping elbows the back of his neck. Kerry snapmares him and kneedrops him. Kerry wristlocks him then armdrags him.

Kerry misses a lariat but Art sells for it anyway. Kerry knee drops him then suplexes him for 2. Kerry snapmares him and goes for the claw. Kerry works the leg then Art eye rakes him. Art knee lifts him then Kerry hits a slam and splash. Kerry spinning punches him and gets the win.

I liked that it started off with them respecting each other then Art heeling it up more after taking offense. It wasn't too special otherwise and they botched a lariat.

Drew Abbenhaus brings out Destiny Lynch. Destiny said she has a special announcement then brings out Herb Simmons. Herb said there's groups running roughshot around here and succeeding. He said he wants to bring law and order in and said he thinks the refs get overpowered by Devastation Inc. He said he will name Danny Boy as the special enforcer ref for when it is needed. Danny Boy comes out as does Ron Powers. He said he loves SICW. He said the refs are having trouble right now, but this is a ref who won't. He said this ref can take care of himself. He said Stephen E is a flash in the pan. He said he has taken out people like him before and will do it again. Danny said he will do everything in his power to keep Stephen E. from doing anything anymore.

Ron says he sees things in the horizon and doesn't know if they can control them. Ron says he doesn't know how involved he can get anymore and says he promised his family not to wrestle again. He said his wife hates the wrestling version of Ron as he gets riled up. Ron says if they need something, he's in their corner. Herb said the stuff going on tears up his stomach and said law and order is what its gotta be.

It was a good angle, furthering the Stephen E. is trying to buy SICW thing. It also furthers Ron Powers teasing his return. I'd love to see Stephen E. take over the show for a day and do Saudi International Championship Wrestling. They could put some masked wrestlers on the show and say they are Saudi champs or whatever. Everyone could wear headcovers or something. It would really be entertaining.

Glenn Williams is joining commentary and has a funny white tiger style suit on. Glenn says it's good to be back and says they needed someone entertaining here when Larson is gone, so they got him.

"The Notorious" Bradley Diggs vs "The Silverback" Big Joe Helms

They lock up and let go. They roll on the ropes and Diggs hits a big slam on Joe. Joe no sells it then slams him. They test strength and Joe hits a stiff lariat. Joe hits punches then suplexes Diggs. Joe legdrops Diggs for 2.

Diggs misses a splash and takes euros. Joe cartwheels but takes a lariat. Diggs double axe handles Joe then slams him. Danny Boy is the ref and Diggs pushes him for slow counting. Danny pushes Diggs back and Diggs goes down. Joe hits lariats. Larson slides a briefcase in and Danny stops it. Joe spears Diggs and picks up the win.

It made sense and pushed the story of Danny not taking anything as special ref. Some of the moves could have been hit cleaner here. I liked the lariat counter to the cartwheel spot here.

Overall thoughts: A good show. SICW did a good job with the fireball angle here. Larson was funny on commentary and Glenn Williams wasn't bad on commentary either. They also furthered the angle with Stephen E. trying to buy SICW, though we don't know where it's going yet. I wish they would have explained what Larson got suspended for though.
