AEW Dynamite 2/14/2024

Last week's show is here:  https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/aew-dynamite-272024.html

Jon Moxley vs Dax Harwood

They kiss each other early. No, I'm not making this up. They then trade forearms and chops. Mox bites him then Dax hits chops and punches. Mox boots him in the corner then Dax shoulders him over. Mox bulldog chokes him and lariats him over the top. Mox sends him over the rail and they fight over top the rail. Mox catapults him into the post outside then hits corner punches inside. Dax sitout powerbombs him out of it. Dax suplexes him near the ropes and both go over the top, having some trouble with it.

We go to PiP break and return. Mox hits chops on the ropes. They hold each others hands and chop and forearm each other. They slap each other. They fight on the buckles and Mox rakes his back. Dax falls off the buckles then superplexes him.

Mox hits forearms then takes a short arm lariat. They lariat each other and Dax sharpshooters him. Mox hits reverse curb stomps and back body drops him. Dax piledrivers him. They trade chops outside and Mox kicks the middle rope as Dax tries to get in. Mox curbstomps and piledrivers him. Dax brainbusters him for 2. Dax comes off the top, misses a headbutt and Mox puts him in a grounded choke. Dax then taps out.

I can't really put over a match where men are kissing each other. It was what you would expect form these two with lots of chops and forearms. It was a decent match but a little long for an opener.

Cash Wheeler comes out to hit shots on Mox while he keeps the choke on then CC neutralizers Cash. Mox chokes Dax again while CC crossfaces Cash.

Renee interviews The Don Callis Family. Don said they are a victim of their own success as no one wants to wrestle them. Don said he is looking within the family for the PPV and wants to put Takeshita against Ospreay. Don said his dad used to have a few drinks and make his kids fight. Don said The Don Callis Family wins here as they will be a family after. He said we won't be talking about Sting but The Don Callis Family. He then calls it a match of the decade.

Wardlow vs Barrett Brown

Wardlow backs hin up. He lays him on the top rope and drops him down into a knee to the face. Wardlow looks at himself pose on the tron. Wardlow hits a delayed last ride and wins it.

It was your usual waste of time Wardlow squash that did nothing for anyone involved.

We see clips of The Young Bucks arriving in a jet, wearing the bloody white suits.

Adam Copeland vs Daniel Garcia

Adam forearms him off the lockup then hits corner forearms. Adam goes for a crossface and DG rolls into an ankle lock on him. Adam shoulders him over then splashes his back. Adam shoulders him over then misses a splash. DG rolls him up and trips him. DG is on the back of his legs like a surfboard and teases his dance.

DG hits elbows to the head, comes off the 2nd rope and is shoulderbreakered. DG is thrown into the buckles and we go to PiP break. We return and DG is face kicked down. They go up top and DG's arm is dropped down over the top rope. Adam is crotched up top then DG dragon screws him off the buckles.

DG hits a bunch of punches then a stomp flurry. DG foot chokes him and facewash kicks him. DG hits another dragon screw and yanks his leg back. Adam fujiwara armbars him then DG stf's him. They trade shots  then DG dragon screws him again. Adam 2nd rope butterfly suplexes him. Adam goes for the spear but is kicked and rolled up. Adam crossfaces him then Nick Wayne and Killswitch come out.

KS and Nick stomp both DG/Adam. Christian grabs a chair then Matt Menard comes from the commentary booth and grabs a chair as well. KS nails Menard from behind then DG is chokeslammed. Adam cheers the heels and bangs chairs with Christian. Shayna Wayne then low blows Adam. Nick hits wayne's world on Adam then Christian conchairtos Adam.

The match wasn't bad at all with DG working Adam's knees and Adam working his arm/shoulder. The two matched up well and I'd like to see this run back with a winner. The dirty finish wasn't real exciting here as this feud really has been going on for a while without any progression.

Samoa Joe comes out to the ring to talk. He took credit for bringing back the ranking system. He said things were going well then Swerve and Page went to a draw. Joe said he thought they would be put in the back of the line but they just made his match bigger and dumber. He said a crime has been committed against him and said there now must be repercussions. He said he will both of them and guarantees they will limp out. He said he is the champ and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Swerve Strickland comes out with Prince Nana. Swerve said this wasn't supposed to be personal but it's becoming personal as Joe runs his mouth. He said Joe said hunger is what defies the greatest and he said he is on his way to becoming one of the greatest of all time. Swerve said no one outhustles or outworks him. He tells him to check his resume and put some respect on it.

Swerve said he has been grinding for 15 years and said he has proven he's one of the best. He said nothing changes at Revolution except him holding the title. Adam Page comes out. Page said he wasn't mad after last week's match but says last week was horsesh!t. He said he signed a contract to determine the #1 contender. He said the winner of it became #1 contender, but Swerve couldn't win it. Page said the match should be between two men who value the title instead. He said he doesn't make the matches though and said Swerve doesn't deserve one second of his time. Page said he doesn't deserve 5 more minutes and doesn't deserve to be in the title match. Joe said neither man is going to pin the either and take the title from him without pinning him. He said he will whip both of them at the PPV.

Eh, we really didn't learn a whole lot out of this one and it felt like time filler.

We got a Toni Storm video talking about her tattoo and friendship with Deonna Purrazzo. She said DP was her young girl and said she helped her along. She said DP suckled on her teet of talent. We then see Toni getting a tattoo and said DP forgot who she was. She said she will get the whole Toni Storm and so much more. She said when you can't change the past, you kil lit. We then see that her bird tattoo now has a hat on it.

Renee interviews Deonna Purrazzo. DP says she talks too much. She says she will break her arm, b!tch.

We see The Young Bucks get out of a limo.

The Young Bucks vs Top Flight

Action Andretti comes out with them and drinks a full water bottle in one gulp. The Bucks are wrestling in suits and hats again and now have stripe facial hair under their chins. Dante is put in a wristlock and uses the ropes to flip out of it. He then flips a Buck by the arm. Dante flips off the bottom rope and a Buck yells at the commentators. Dante hits an armdrag on Nick then armdrags him off the casadora.

Matt fist pounds Dante then takes shots from both TF members. Matt takes a corner lariat then a slingshot swanton. Dante jumps off of Darius' back and leg lariats Matt. All 4 men go out and The Bucks beat up TF out there. TF pull themselves into the ring then hit plancha's outside.

Darius top rope double stomps a Buck's arm then dropkicks it. Darius takes a lariat and Dante is knocked off the apron. We go to PiP break and return. Darius lariats The Bucks then vaults off the top rope to pele kick him. Dante gets in and hits forearms and a jumping knee. Dante does a springboard crossbody for 2. TF hit stereo sunset flips for 2 then lariat Nick over the top. Matt ddt's Dante then Dante headscissors Matt. Darius hits a tornado ddt off of Dante for 2.

Dante topes Nick outside then Darius hits a standing spanish fly for 2. Dante is dropped on the rail and The Bucks block a monkey flip. Matt gets caught with his feet on the ropes on a pin attempt. Matt pops up Darius and kicks him low. The Bucks hit a evp trigger and wins it.

The Bucks didn't do their usual spots and it was a much better match because of it. It wasn't anything memorable but much smarter than their usual work. I didn't like them wrestling in suits though like idiots.

Tony Schiavone interviews The Bucks after. The Bucks say they are undefeated and it makes them the top tag team in AEW. They say they are the #1 contenders and make a graphic for it. The Bucks complain about Tony's remark and say that's a breach of contract. They then tell him it's a $1,000 fine. One of them then shoulders Tony over. They tell Tony not to let it happen again. They tease helping him up then look like they will hit the EVP trigger. Darby Allin then comes out with a bat.

Darby tells them to remind people what the original mission statement of AEW was and he says it's to change the world. Darby said they wouldn't hire him when he was homeless and he had to watch his friends get hired. Darby said thankfully there as an EVP who helped him, with that being Cody, but he doesn't say his name. Darby said they re-signed with AEW because of money and the travel schedule. Darby said the original mission statement is dead and said it sounds like All Friends Wrestling. He complains about Brandon Cutler being on the first episode while he wasn't.

Darby said they don't know what they got themselves into with Sting and said he has nothing to lose. Darby then says, "it's showtime".

This was all over the place and was not good.

The Bang Bang Scissor Gang is interviewed. Austin says welcome to the BBSG lounge. MAx gives Renee a rose. Jay said they are running smooth but said they haven't tested their cohesiveness in the ring. Billy goes to talk and Austin said they should have a 12-man tag on Rampage. Billy then says the same thing. Bowens says it's a fantastic idea and said they run the world.

Willow Nightingale vs Skye Blue

Stokeley Hathaway comes out with Willow. Skye has a new outfit and seems to have slimmed down. Skye shotgun dropkicks her then stomps on her. Willow slams her. Skye gets on her back with a dragon sleeper and is thrown forward. Skye slaps her and gets her head banged off the buckles. Skye rolls out. Willow chases her then hits a big pounce. Skye then goes out again.

We go to PiP break and return. They trade forearms and Skye superkicks her. Willow lariats her and corner hip attacks her. Willow hits a boot to the chest then spinebusters her. Skye superkicks her then short ddt's her for 2. Skye gets on her back and dragon sleepers her. Willow knocks her off the apron to the floor.

They get back in and Skye powerbombs her while she's on the buckles. Stokeley gets on the apron as Skye hits a code red. The ref is distracts and doesn't count. Willow avoids a kick then doctor bombs Skye to win it.

I didn't like the ending here with Willow knowingly and openly cheating as a face to get the win in a match where Skye didn't even really cheat. They did fine otherwise.

Willow and Stoke fist bump after.

Texas Death Match - Orange Cassidy vs Matt Taven

This may be called a texas death match, but this has last man standing and pin/submission rules. Why is this a texas death match? Look, I like Matt Taven more than most people, but he should not be in the main event. No one came out with Taven.

They hockey fight and Taven hits punches in the corner. Taven goes up and over then dropkicks him. Taven back rolls out of the corner and hits a step up enzugiri. Taven blue thunders OC then bangs his head off the steps. OC is sent into the rails then Taven is sent into the rails.

OC hurdles the rails when thrown into them and puts his hands in his pockets. OC boots him while his hands are in there and they fight up the steps as we go to PiP break. WE return and Taven jumps off the stage to elbow drop OC through a table. The table doesn't fully break and just falls over.

Taven then suplexes OC through the table. OC is bleeding then Taven running knees him on the ramp. Taven backbreakers OC then ddt's him. The show runs past 10PM. Taven sets up a table diagonal to the desk and OC topes him. Taven springboard enzugiri's him then dropkicks him through the ropes. Taven does a suicide dive over the top through the table with OC moving out of the way.

Taven is now busted open. OC Pulls a box of chocolates from the under the ring that came from Chuck Taylor. The box has thumbtacks in it and OC pours them all over the ring. OC is thrown off the 2nd rope through the tacks then Taven isses a top rope frogsplash, going into the tacks. Taven takes a tornado ddt onto the tacks.

OC grabs a chain then Mike Bennett nails OC. He hits him with a wooden heart then throws chairs in. Trent Beretta then comes down with a box of flowers and a steel pipe. Trent hits a chair with the pipe into Mike's face then Taven throws a chair at Trent's face. Trent takes a bridged headlock driver onto the chair. OC superman punches Taven and hits a beach break on the chair and tacks. Taven no sells it and rips the pockets out of OC's pants. OC orange punches Taven with a chain.

Roderick Strong comes down and jumping knees Trent. OC throws Strong out and wins by knockout as the ref was apparently counting to 10 during all of this. Taven couldn't answer the 10 count.

I wasn't a fan of this. OC did his comedy like usual and Taven's dive into the table should have been the finish. Then there was all the shenanigans at the end and people no selling and this was not for me.

Overall thoughts: I didn't like this. We had men kissing in the opener. Wardlow did his usual squash. Copeland/Garcia had no finish. The Bucks had an okay match but a bad segment after. The main of Orange Cassidy vs Matt Taven was out of nowhere. It had comedy, no selling, interference and blood as both men got busted open hardway.
