GLEAT 12/30/2023 GLEAT Ver. 7

GLEAT 12/30/2023 GLEAT Ver. 7

It's GLEAT's biggest show in months.

Four Way Way Twelve Man Tag Team Match

Ryuichi Kawakami got the win over JD Lee here. This had 12 people in it and 5 whole minutes of time to work with. Why? I don't know. Kotaro Suzuki was in this and I'm not even sure if he got a single move in. The only real thing this accomplished was giving JD Lee a few highlight spots.

Brandon Cutler, Colt Cabana & Kuroshio TOKYO Japan vs. El Lindaman, Issei Onitsuka & Kaz Hayashi

Jiro did his usual pre-match dancing and playing around in the crowd. I have no idea why they brought Cutler and Colt here for this one. You can make the case for Colt I guess, but Cutler, no.

Jiro does a corner handstand. Linda and Colt also do corner handstands. Linda runs the ropes fast and Colt stops him to put him in a wristlock. Linda chases Jiro around outside and is booted by Colt out there. Linda take a double hiptoss then a splash and elbow drop. Jiro jacket punches Linda. Colt and Cutler put on Jiro style jackets and hit jacket punches on Linda.

Jiro abdominal stretches Linda then gets help from Colt and Cutler on it. Colt and Cutler throw their jackets at Jiro then Linda ducks. Linda backdrops Jiro. Kaz gets in and dropkicks Cutler. Colt hits punches on Kaz then ends up hitting an elbow on Cutler. Colt is tripped onto Cutler and Kaz tries to pin both. Jiro splashes both partners on accident then Linda tope con hilos Colt and Cutler.

Issei top rope splashes everyone outside. Cutler kicks Issei from the apro nand jumps over the top with an enzugiri. Cutler then spinning forearms him. Issei chops Jiro then takes a back elbow. Issei pulls off Jiro's jacket and Jiro covers up like he is naked. Issei and Jiro do a tug of war over the jacket then Jiro armdrags him with it. Jiro then hits him with it.

Linda and Kaz are sent into each other then thrown out. Issei is held in the air and Jiro top rope moonsaults him to win it.

This was all comedy and a waste of Jiro, Linda and money.

MICHIKO & Yukari Hosokawa vs. Aoi & Unagi Sayaka

Mich and Unagi start us off. Mich slaps her then is slapped back. They trade forearms and Mich kicks her in the chest. Unagi face kicks her. Aoi and Yukari get in. Aoi face kicks her then takes palm chest strikes. Aoi knocks her down and hits a face kick.

Aoi face kicks Yukari, Unagi codebreakers Yukari then Yukari takes a bad double team move. Aoi chops Yukari then bulldogs her for 2. Yukari O'Mahoney rolls Aoi into an armbar then she jumping cutters her.

Mich face kicks both opponents then dropkicks both. Aoi superkicks Mich then they botch a slingblade. Unagi swinging facebusters Mich then legdrops the back of her neck. Mich is put on the 2nd rope and codebreakered. Mich is then held in the air and has her head banged off the mat for 2.

Unagi does a blade runner style flatliner on Mich. Mich and Yukari hit stereo dropkicks and Yukari top rope dives on her opponents.  Yukari top rope double stomps Unagi. Yukari headbutts Aoi then northern lights suplexes her. Mich then ki krushers Unagi for 2. Mich package tombstones Unagi and wins it.

I was surprised to see Mich get the win over Unagi here. It wasn't that good. They didn't have enough time and Aoi had some sloppy moments.

SBK & TAKUMA vs. BULK Orchestra (Check Shimatani & KAZMA SAKAMOTO)

Kazma and Takuma start us off. They shoulder battle. Takuma kicks him then is shouldered over. Kazma boots SBK then Check crossbodies SBK. Check misses a dropkick on SBK but avoids a running ssp. They try to do a spot where everyone misses a move but two people end up hittin their moves when the wrestler doesn't move out of the way quick enough.

All 4 trade forearms. Takuma flips off of Kazma's shoulders then does a bad body hurricanrana. Takuma runs up the buckles, slips then does a springboard ssp where he nearly gets killed. SBK comes off the top and is punched by Kazma. Takuma messes up a back flip off of his partner then is popped up into a dropkick on Kazma.

Check forearms both opponents. Check is pop-up dropped then double superkicked. Check boots SBK out of the corner then Takuma chops him. Check is popped up and hurricanrana's SBK. Check 2nd rope tornado ddt's Takuma. Kazma corner splashes both opponents then tope con hilos outside.

Takuma takes running corner moves then a sandwich splash for 2. Kazma enzugiri's SBK. Kazma pop up powerbombs Takuma then SBK crucifix bombs Kamza. SBK tope con hilos outside. Check hits a nice dropkick on Takuma then canadian destroyers him. Takuma no sells it and running knees him. Takuma counters a crossbody with a spanish fly then SBK hits a top rope moonsault. Takuma dropkicks Kazma then does a walk up the ropes moonsault outside.

SBK rebound germans Check then takes a poisonrana. Check crucifix drivers him and the ref has to stop counting so Takuma can break it up with a springboard double stomp. Check rolls up Takuma for 2 then takes a belly to belly into the buckles. SBK is monkey flipped on him. Kazma hangs from the top and takes a springboard legdrop and 450. SBK sitout dominators Check for 2. Takuma 630's Check off the top and wins it.

The first half was bad with Takuma botching everything. He only botched one thing in the 2nd half but he and everyone else stopped selling completely and had an indy style finish.

UWF Rules Match - Tetsuya Izuchi vs. Riki Aitaka

TI = Tetsuya Izuchi

Riki hits leg kicks and takes kicks to the body. TI leg kicks him and then blocks a takedown. Riki gets his back then TI mounts him and goes for an armbar. Riki deadlift powerbombs him then hits some shots while standing above him. TI uses a ropebreak.

Riki drops him with a leg kick then gets a knockdown after 2 more leg kicks. Riki side throws him down and TI single leg crabs him. TI takes him down and does an STF style lock on the ground. Riki uses a ropebreak and both are down to 3 ropebreaks.

They trade slaps and Riki lariats him over. TI beats the count and gets back up. Riki hits slaps then takes a high kick. TI hits an mma style fisherman suplex (yes, I'm being silly) which counts as a takedown.

Riki hits a spinning uraken, a knee and a palm strike. Riki wins by knockout.

It was okay for UWF rules. It wasn't too long and Riki threw a couple of good strikes here.

UWF Rules - Hikaru Shida & Maya Fukuda vs. Azusa Inaba & Tomoka Inaba

AI = Azusa Inaba, TI = Tomoka Inaba

AI and Maya trade kicks to start. They hit some slap flurries as well and Maya takes her down. Maya gator rolls her and goes for an armbar. AI hits kicks then Maya hits a nice high kick. They high kick each other at the same time and stand off in true mma fashion.

TI and Shida get in. Shida throws her out of the ring and goes for a Pride FC style dive off the top but the ref stops her. TI knees her and high kicks her. Shida goes down and takes a count.  Shida grabs TI by the hair and is warned. TI grabs her the hits a knee to the gut. Shida lariats her and knees her.The ref warns Shida again and yellow cards her.

Shida hits a running knee then suplexes her. TI is down and the ref counts. Maya gets in and nearly trips on a leg kick. They trade kicks and slaps. TI blocks a takedown and grabs her arms. Maya hits mounted body shots and armbars her. TI uses a ropebreak to get out.

They trade kicks and TI knees her in the body. TI goes for a slam but ends up kneeing her in the face then Maya goes down for a ref count. AI gets in and hits a slap flurry. AI hits a brazilian kicks and Shida gets in.

AI pump kicks her then is slapped. AI kick combs her and goes for a rolling leg bar. AI high kicks Shida then Shida stretch mufflers her. Shida swings her in the air with it. AI hits a kick then is taken down. Shida puts her in a stretch muffler again and grabs the arm to tap her out.

Shida may have won here but they made her look like an idiot by doing wrestling stuff in what is supposed to be an MMA style match. I don't know what they were going for here but it didn't help anyone out.

LIDET UWF Title Match - Fujita Hayato (c) vs. Minoru Tanaka

FH hits a leg kick and takes him down. MT takes him down and puts him in an AT lock. FH uses a ropebreak then MT leglocks him. They leglock each other. MT uses a rope break but he isn't charged one. MT then drops him with a punch/slap.

FH gets up and takes another shot flurry. FH then high kicks him and knocks him down. FH hits a shot flurry then MT rolling armbars him. FH germans him and hits two high kicks, slipping on the 2nd one. FH guillotine chokes him and MT passes out.

It was short and not that good. I didn't get why MT wasn't charged a knockdown off the german nor charged for ropebreaking when they leglocked each other.

Kaito Ishida vs. Takehiro Yamamura

KI side headlocks him then face kicks him. KI stands on his neck then sits on him and hits slaps. TY baseball slides him and flipping sentons him. TY takes a pump kick on a dive attempt then is brainbustered for 2. KI bullies him with kicks.

KI catapults him into the 2nd rope then cravates him. TY enzugiri's him then dropkicks him against the ropes. TY hits a tope con hilo outside then springboard dropkicks him inside. TY kicks him around. TY tries to go up and over in the corner but is kicked. TY rolls out and is kicked from the apron.

KI hits a PK for 2 then bullies him with more kicks. TY fires up  and KI chops him. TY chops back then forearms him. KI pump kicks him then TY hits kicks to the head for 2. TY ki krushers him then misses a skytwister press off the top. KI pump kicks him then buzzsaw kicks him for 2.

KI germans him for 2 then hits a half-tiger suplex to win it.

They told a decent story here with Kaito bullying him around and Yamamura trying to stand up for himself. It would have been better if Yamamura won in the end, but that is not what happened as Yamamura lost. You could tell Kaito was told to take it easy here on him when he suplexed him.

G-INFINITY Title Match - Saito Brothers (Jun Saito & Rei Saito) (c) vs. Soma Watanabe & Yuya Susumu

The Saito's are jumped when their names are announced. They both go over the top rope and Soma tope con hilos them through the ropes. Jun shoulders Soma over in the ring. Rei gets in and bullies Soma, chopping him down. Rei slams him then Jun slams him. Jun elbow drops him for 2 then slams him. Rei stands on Soma then Jun suplexes Soma.

Jun misses a corner splash but Soma can't make the tag out. Jun face kicks Rei on a failed double team then Soma hits a handspring into a cutter on Jun. Yuya is tagged in and hits kicks on Jun. Jun takes a short ddt then armdrags Jun off a chokeslam. Yuya crossfaces Jun then trips him into another crossface. Jun deadlift powerbombs Yuya out of a triangle and tags out.

Rei is tripped into the 2nd rope and superkicked by Soma. Soma frogsplash crossbodies Rei for 2. Rei slams Yuya then 2nd rope pslashes him for 2. Rei misses a move off the top then Yuya walks up the buckles and meteoras him. Soma corkscrew moonsaults  Rei for 2 then he and Yuya basement ropkick Jun. Soma top rope 450's Rei's back then does it to his chest. Rei crossbodies Soma for 2.

Yuya takes a double chokeslam then Soma hits a nice dropkick on Rei. Soma runs into a double chokeslam for 2. Rei top rope splashes Soma and wins it.

It was okay but not really worthy of semi-main status or anything memorable at all. They only got 10 minutes for this. The heels were in control early, the faces got some offense in then were beaten.  It was a a very average and typical match.

G-REX Title Match - T-Hawk (c) vs. Hayato Tamura

T slaps HT off a break early. T chops him and takes a backdrop. T rolls out. HT brings him in and shoulders him off the buckles.  T hits chops, shoulders him and dropkicks him in the knee. HT shoulders him over then facelocks him. They slap each other and HT forearms him over. HT shoulders him over and is suplexed. HT hits forearms and drops him.

They go outside and trade shots. T chops him and sells exhaustion. T goes for an armbar in the ring. T pop up knees him then takes a forearm. HT running lariats him then takes a knee and both go down to sell.

T hits chops and uppercuts him. HT is sat on top and T 2nd rope superplexes him. T blocks HT's lariats then is nailed with one. HT muscle busters him for 2. T goes for an armbar then hits a sitout blackout. T hits chops and they slap each other. HT drops him with a headbutt. HT lariats him twice then hits another for the win.

Man, I don't know what this was. This is Gleat's 2nd biggest show of the year. You'd expect some big moves here, lots of kickouts, maybe some blood or weapons use and other things to make this feel like a big deal. We got none of that here and it didn't even go 20 minutes. Tamura had wilder matches at house shows in the RWTL. It was a very lazy and completely forgettable main.

Overall thoughts: GLEAT sucks. This was their 2nd biggest show of the year at a bigger venue than usual. You'd expect all the stars to be out here, you'd expect big matches and you'd expect everyone to try and impress. That did not happen here. There were too many matches and not enough time, so nothing really got the time it needed. They had an opener with 12 people that went 5 minutes and a main event that didn't even go 20. Cima wasn't on the show despite wrestling a few days earlier and despite being at the show. Galeno goofed around in the opener. None of the other lucha or foreigners were brought in either...but it had freaking Colt Cabana and Brandon Cutler. Whoever booked this show needs to be fired.

  1. GLEAT seemed to go off a cliff for the second half of 2023. Aside from what seems to now be an annual thing, the UWF card in March. I honestly have zero interest in anything they do.

  2. Yeah, I'm not real sure what is going on there right now. They were thrown bones with SKB and Takuma and haven't made much of it.
