AEW Dynamite 4/5/2023

AEW Dynamite 4/5/2023

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2023/03/aew-dynamite-3292023.html

Ricky Starks vs Juice Robinson

Jay White came out and jumped Starks with Juice. Jay hits the blade runner and Starks is left laying with no match happening. I didn't really want to see it anyway, so I'm fine with this.

Chris Jericho was interviewed. He said he had nothing against Adam Cole. Jericho said Cole made Garcia look bad last week when he celebrated while Garcia was out. Keith Lee comes in and says Jericho's the poster child of disrespect. Keith said he has had some wars with Adam Cole and respects him. He said he should teach Jericho a thing or two about respect next week.

AEW Trios Titles - House of Black vs Best Friends

The Best Friends arrived in Trent's mom's van. Black takes down Trent then Trent hammerlocks him. Bllack kind of sunset flips Trent then takes a jumping knee. King misses a senton then Buddy gets armdragged by Chuck. OC goes for a tornado ddt on Buddy but is blocked then is thrown face first into the buckle. OC pop up hurricanrana's Buddy. OC does a hands in the pocket dive to the outside, gets caught and is thrown into the apron. Trent tries to dive then is slammed into the apron then Trent is popped up into a forearm.

We come back from break and Brody accidentally topes his partners. OC then is launched in the air onto his opponents by his partners. Black takes a triple powerbomb for 2 and LFI is watching in the crowd. Chuck takes a bossman slam from Brody then Trent is brainbustered by Black. Black then has a stand off with OC. OC hits a cutter on Black then Trent double dropkicks Buddy and Brody from the top. Trent lariats Black then piledrivers him. Buddy then gets a piledriver.

Brody takes an orange punch and a piledriver from Trent for 2. Chuck rolls up Buddy and Buddy curbstomps him for the win.

Christian Cage is in front of red lights and fog then Luchasaurus appears with some new gear.

AEW Women's Title - Jamie Hayter (c) vs Riho

Riho rolls her up and hurricanrana's her early. Riho hits a dropkick then crossbodies her off the top. Riho tries for another crossbody but takes a gutbuster for 2. They fight on the apron then Jamie hits a side effect there. We go to break and return.

Riho hits a 619 then does another top rope crossbody. Riho germans her twice for 2 then takes a neckbreaker over the knee. Jamie sliding lariats her for 2. Jamie superplexes her and gets her 2nd suplex attempt turned into a ddt. Jamie goes up top and is hit then Riho top rope hurricanrana's her. Riho then hits a stiff meteora for 2. Jamie facekicks her then Jamie hits a rainmaker style lariat and wins it.

They kept it moving and it wasn't bad at all.

Renee interviews The Outcast. They mock Jamie for her title defense. Ruby says they are coming to get control in the women's division byt taking the women's title.

2.0 and Hager came out. Menard said The Acclaimed are joining. Max did a rap and said they can't join the JAS, saying Jericho was full of sh!t. Angelo said it sounded like they anted a fight..together. Angelo said 2.0 and The Acclaimed will fight together on Rampage. Angelo asked Matt to scissor him but Billy Gunn said scissoring should only be done by professionals. Then Billy and Bowens did the scissor handshake.

Oyster Bay, MJF's town, declared it MJF Day and we saw a video on it.  MJF came out and there was a band for him. MJF sang and actually did a decent job. They had the Oyster Bay supervisor, Joseph Saladino speak. He put him over as a hometown hero and the pride of Long Island.

MJF got on the mic after and called Sammy, Darby and Jungle Boy losers. MJF said he had ADD and we got an "ADD" chant. He talked about his teacher who didn't believe he could ever be champ and made fun of her for getting it wrong. MJF asked if we wante dto see an encore then someone banged symbols together. The guy took off the glasses and mask and it was Jungle Boy, who then jumped him. They wrestled on the ramp/stage until security broke it up. Sammy Guevara then came out then held the title above his head.

MJF was really good in his segment and the crowd was super into it.

Sammy Guevara vs Komander

They slid out to start and Sammy hit a springboard moonsault. Sammy then came off the top and took a superkick. Komander walked the top rope and did an ssp for 2. Komander then walked the top rope again and did a springboard off the other rope into a Sammy superkick. We went to break and returned.

Sammy had Komander in a sleeper then Komander does a springboard poisonrana. Komander walks the top rope again and does a twisting dive. Komander walks the top rope again and Sammy moves on his ssp attempt. Komander then does a springboard phoenix splash. Komander goes for another rope walk ssp and Sammy puts his knees up. Sammy then goes for the GTH but Komander rolls him up. Sammy superkicks him. Komander walks the top rope again and Sammy cutters him off the top then hits the GTH to win it.

Komander's rope walks got super annoying here as he must have done it 5 times. I could go without ever seeing that move out of him again.

Tony Schiavone interviews Sammy with Darby and Jungle Boy watching on. Sammy said he does something the world champ doesn't do - wrestle. Sammy asked if what MJF was doing was American Idol? He got no reaction for this then said MJF didn't beat them in their last match, but Shawn Spears and a steel chair beat him.

Sammy said he built AEW brick by brick and said MJF didn't. Sammy talked about how he loves AEW. Sammy said screw the other pillars and said he is the next champ. The crowd was not interested in this at all and made Sammy look bad.

FTW Title - Hook (c) vs Ethan Page

Hook exploders him then Page rolls out and pushes his back into the apron. Hook is thrown into the post. Hook hits a twist of fate after Page tries one. Isaiah Kassidy gets on the apron and Matt Hardy hits Page with the title belt. Hook then puts Page in the redrum and wins it.

This was short and just odd.

Kassidy celebrated with Matt after for some reason.

Nigel McGuiness is with Tony Khan. Tony said they would have a show in London, which Tony treated as some major announcement, when I don't think it was. People in England or surrounding area's might care, but as a TV viewer only, it doesn't really matter where the show is held to me. Adam Cole then comes in and said they are going to have AEW All-In at Wembley Stadium on August 27th. Tony was terrible here as usual, looking scared to death and awkward.

The Blackpool Combat Club vs Jobbers

They only mentioned one of the jobbers names. One of the jobbers is popped up and euro'd. Another takes a double hiptoss. CC spike piledrives someone on the floor. Yuta puts one in a single leg crab then Mox sleepers another. Yuta germans another jobber then hits downward elbows on him then Yuta wins with a crossface.

This was a short squash.

CC continues to beat up on a jobber after and Danielson gets on the mic.

Bryan said he felt the four of them were the only pro wrestlers in the building with. Adam Page came down and Bryan called him an amateur. Page goes after them and gets beaten up. Bryan says Yuta is a professional as he beats up on Page then says Page has nobody who loves him. Bryan grabs a screwdriver and keeps calling Page an amateur then stabs him with the screwdriver.

This didn't make sense. The Dark Order is always backing Page up yet didn't come to help him and they've been making it seem like The Elite are his friends too, yet they didn't come either. I'm sure they will try to explain it later, but if they explained the situation beforehand, it would have worked a lot better.

AEW Tag Titles vs AEW Careers - The Gunn's (c) vs FTR

I really didn't think it was anything special. We knew FTR just re-signed, so it was obvious they weren't losing.  They had a commercial break during this which hurt the match. The last half of this match got silly as The Gunn's were trying to get themselves DQ'd and the ref wouldn't DQ them., leading to a bunch of choreographed spots. They just didn't go all out here or have some super dramatic match and they probably did less than what we see in a usual TV main event. FTR ended up winning to the surprise of no one.

Overall thoughts: The show didn't look that good and it was built around a mystery announcement, which ended up being a dud to anyone outside of England. And AEW now has Jay White, who they brought in for two matches prior and didn't treat as a big deal either time.
