AEW Dynamite 3/1/2023
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2023/02/aew-dynamite-2222023.html
I've been sick all week and I don't know if I'll get around to reviewing NXT or not from this week.
AEW All-Atlantic Title - Orange Cassidy vs Big Bill
Any result here except for Big Bill winning in like 3 minutes is just plain stupid. Big Bill threw him around a bunch then chokeslammed him through a table in front of the ref and didn't get DQ'd. There was shenanigans with Stokeley Hathaway and Danhausen then Stoke nailed Hanhausen with a cast before getting tope'd. Oc ended up winning here naturally and we have yet another hoss with a loss. This was awful and I cannot understand why OC was not DQ'd.
We saw clips of Mox all bloodied from last week. He said his blood tasted like victory and life. He said he does this because he likes it. Mox talked about his history with Adam Page as he bled all over the stairwell and said he'd even the score in a 3rd match with Page in a Texas Death Match. This is AEW though and their Texas Death Match is just a Last Man Standing match.
The Elite came out and the lights went out with the House of Black behind them. The lights went out again and The Elite were laid out while the HoB held the trios titles up.
Face of the Revolution Ladder Match
No idea why this is on this show and not the PPV, especially since it's weak and needs as much help as it can get.
They had Kommander in this for some reason, even though he isn't even with the company. No intro or explanation of course as you are just expected to know who he is.
This was your usual ladder match with lots of crazy spots. Sammy Guevata took a falcon arrow off a ladder onto a bridged ladder and hit his head off the edge of it. Kommander took a blue thunder bomb off a bridged ladder, walked the top rope into a dive and walked the top rope into an SSP onto AR Fox on a ladder. Sammy Guevara did a swanton off a ladder onto Action Andretti, who was laying on a ladder. Takeshita was on a ladder as it got speared and took a hard fall of it then Hobbs needed 3 refs to hold the ladder so he could get up and win. At least he got the win though as he was the best option, but it reminds me of Adam Page, where he disappeared then won a title shot out of nowhere. And we know how that turned out.
And in traditional fashion, we had another person lose in their debut as Kommander lost here.
Wardlow went for Samoa Joe after and did a cool powerbomb on a security member on the ramp then powerbombed another guard off the ramp onto other guards.
Best Friends did an interview after. Chuck and Trent aren't cleared for the Battle Royale, but Danhausen said he and Orange Cassidy are. OC didn't look real interested but said he didn't care.
Chris Jericho vs Peter Avalon
Why? Avalon controlled this early for unknown reasons. Peter sent him int othe steps and post then slipped on a springboard crossbody for 2. Peter then hit a tornado ddt for 2. Jericho then won with a codebreaker and hit Peter with a bat after.
This did nothing for anyone and won't be followed up on.
Ricky Starks came out to make the save for some reason when Peter has a whole faction who didn't bother to come save him.
Jericho then got on the mic and said he'd beat him up on Sunday at the PPV. The JAS then jumped Starks and Starks took a judas effect from Jericho.
Adam Page did a promo on Mox. Page said the Texas Death Match is all he has left to lose. Page said he will take away his spot on the food chain.
Christian Cage was interviewed by Renee in the ring. He said he can't wait not to come here for 10 years again. He said he was minding his own business until Jungle Boy started talking about winning a singles title. Christian said he would over his dead body. Christian said he would win a singles title in 2023. Christian said the business isn't for JB and said he doesn't have grit or an ounce of what he has inside. He said JB treats the ring as a video game. He challenged JB to a "fight" at Revolution and said if he refused to show up, he is just his father's son. He said he is a no talent hack just like his father.
The lights then went out again for some reason and it was not the House of Black. It was Jungle Boy digging a grave with clips intertwined with him and Christian. We then saw Jungle Boy crying and it was revealed the grave was for Christian.
Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter were interviewed by Tony. Jamie said she didn't know whether it would be better beating 1 b!tch or 2. Britt said Saraya would never have the women's belt and Jamie invited Saraya to cause shenanigans as they would be ready.
FTW Title - Hook vs Matt Hardy
There were a bunch of stips made for this that weren't promoted and they only mentioned in passing. Hook tripped him early. They went outside and Hook got pushed into the post by Stokeley and friends. Hook hit a Saito suplex on him then hit shots in the corner. Hook then was dropped face first on the buckles then took a side effect for 2. Stoke hit Hook with his cast when the ref wasn't looking and it only counted for 2. Hook then put Matt in the tazzmission and won.
We knew Hook would win here because of all the stips.
The House of Black did a promo. They said the greatest enemy is fear. They said they will leave the AEW titles here but want The Elite to know that they have already lost them. I don't know where they left the titles exactly since I've always assumed they did these promos from a haunted house.
Toni Storm vs Riho
Riho got thrown by the hair early then bridged out of a pin. Riho hit a dropkick then snap suplexed her for 2. Riho did a cartwheel through a lariat then rolled her up into a double stomp. Toni did her running hip attack to Riho on the apron then Saraya nailed Riho outside.
Britt and Jamie Hayter came down and we went to break. We came back and Riho hit a headscissors then had her 619 caught. Riho crossbodied her from the top to the floor. Riho hit a northern lights suplex for 2. Toni threw her by the hair and hit a John Woo dropkick in the corner. Then Toni did a hip attack for 2. Britt Baker got on the apron and was knocked off then Riho shockingly rolled up Toni for the win.
This wasn't bad at all and they matched up well.
Toni and Britt then went at it with Toni being thrown into the rails. Ruby Soho then came out and hit both Saraya and Jamie Hayter then the 3 fought.
Keith Lee did a promo with Dustin Rhodes. He said he forgot his priest robe, which was a good call. Dustin said darkness has fallen and said we will find out that Dustin doesn't like playing game. Dustin then said they are "Naturally Limitless" and we will remember their names. I doubt that as it doesn't really roll off the tongue.
Casino Tag Team Battle Royale
The BCC jumped the Dark Order on their entrance which is odd since they are both faces.
Danhausen and OC ended up winning this one, which buried the other teams. These two never team and OC was hurting yet somehow, they beat other established teams here.
Lethal and Jarrett jumped Dan and OC after.
We had a package for Daniel Bryan vs MJF.
Renee Young interviewed Bryan Danielson. She asked if MJF idolizing Bryan as a kid would change his thoughts on the match, but MJF came out soon after. Bryan told him to shut up as he came out. He said Bryan has done nothing to earn his keep. He said he has taken every shortcut he could and said he deserved his fiance leaving him. Bryan said MJF had everything handed to him while he fought for everything. Bryan said his dream was to become AEW champ and he was willing to fight for it.
He told him he better be ready to fight for everything he has for 60 minutes or get his face kicked in...which was bleeped out. I don't know if he swore or not. It's probably not the best thing to have the final thing you say before a PPV be bleeped out since that's the final hype for it. Otherwise, it was good.
Overall thoughts: This had a lot of the worst of AEW in it. Hosses losing to comedy wrestlers. People debuting randomly then losing. Main eventers putting over jobbers instead of jobbers putting over main eventers and the show ending on a line that got bleeped out.
