AEW Dynamite 9/7/2022

AEW Dynamite 9/7/2022

They announced that the World and Trios Titles were vacated due to an "altercation". They announced Best Friends vs The Death Triangle and a tournament for the World Title. So, I didn't go into it, but AEW had a supposed altercation after the PPV with Punk, Ace Steele, The Elite and others. I personally think it's a work since nobody got fired and since they just ran a shoot angle like that with MJF, which we were also told was 100% real..then became a work once it got exposed.

MJF then came out. He said he wouldn't be competing in the title tournament and did his usual cheap heat until Jon Moxley came out. MJF insulted the Buffalo Bills then talked about a possible bidding war for him. He said he may take the title to another company, the same one that Cody Rhodes went to. He said he might work for another Khan - Nick Khan. He then quoted Triple H and said that's what's best for business. Mox said this isn't the time or place and said MJF needs to leave the ring before he makes him. MJF left after getting his shirt stuck on the ropes.

Mox talked about the AEW title and what it means. He said he dropped the ball at the PPV by losing but talked about how top guys score when they have the ball and said he will win the tournament for the title.

AEW Trios Titles - Best Friends vs Death Triangle

This was what you would expect with OC goofing around to start things off...in a title match which is just stupid. Then they did their usual dives and big moves before Death Triangle got the win. I wasn't a fan of this from the start due to the screwing around. This is supposed to be some big important title, likely with money and fame on the line and OC is just goofing around. His partners don't stop him or get mad at him for it either and it ruined my interest in this one.

The Dark Order were interviewed and said they were unable to compete for the trios titles due to an injury. Andrade's buddy Jose came in and wanted to sign 10. The Dark Order pushed him away and Andrade came in with Rush. Silver threatened them and they left.

We saw some clips of Britt Baker apologizing to Jamie Hayter at the PPV.

Penelope Ford vs Toni Storm

Ford flipped out of a headscissors then Storm did a headstand out of a headscissors. Storm dropkicked her through the ropes then was put into the steps. We went to PiP break and returned. Ford suplexed Storm then ended up going shoulder first into the post.

Storm hit a running facekick and a hip attack. Storm then picked up the win with a ddt.

This was short and cut up by a commercial. What we did see wasn't anything special.

2.0 did a promo on Hook. They told Hook, "Welcome ot the real world". We then saw Action Bronson, whoever that was, tell them not to try anything. He said he will see 2.0 at Queens.

The Acclaimed came out.

Swerve cut off Max's rap. Swerve said he had a joke - The Acclaimed as tag champs. Billy Gunn cut him off and said this is Daddy @sses house now, not Swerve's House. Bowens said they'd win the title at the Queens show.

The JAS were interviewed. Jericho said they are better than ever and said he had found the fountain of youth. He said he is now the best wrestler ever and said he would beat Bryan Danielson again next week. Jericho said this is his company and locker room and said no one would ever take it from him.

TNT Title - Wardlow (c) vs Tony Nese

Wardlow won in a minute or so with a couple of powerbombs as he should have. Wardlow went after Mark Sterling after until Josh Woods saved Sterling.

Wardlow got on the mic after. He said he has read that he lost it and should do various things. Wardlow said he is the TNT champ and it's time he reminds people that this is Wardlow's World.

Darby Allin did a promo on Sammy Guevara. He said he won't have Sting come out for his match with Sammy and challenged him to come out by himself for it too.

AEW Title Tournament - Bryan Danielson vs Adam Page

Bryan goes out to stall early. They shoulder and chop each other then Bryan hits kicks in the corner. Bryan sits on the top and is forearmed then Page springboard lariats him off the 2nd rope. Page misses a plancha then is thrown into the post. We go to a quick PiP break and return. Bryan hit a busaiku knee on him against the rails then stomps on his arm after.

Bryan hits chops and kicks then Page fallaway slammed him. Page plancha'd him then hit a corner lariat. Page then death valley drivered him on his head for 2. Bryan hit flying kicks in the corner then hurricanrana'd him off a pop-up for 2. Bryan buzzsaw kicked him then Page top rope moonsault slammed him. We went to another PiP break and return to them going head to head.

They trade chops and Page sitout powerbombs him. Page is kicked in tree of woe then sliding dropkicked. Page lariats him then Bryan puts him in the Lebell lock. Bryan takes a deadeye samurai driver for 2. Page misses a top rope moonsault thne takes a busaiku knee. Bryan goes for a tope but is powerbombed on the apron then Page top rope moonsaults him outside. Page misses a buckshot lariat and is rolled up for the Bryan win.

The finish wasn't built up to too well. They tried for a classic. It was a decent to good wrestling match but I didn't think it was super special as the story wasn't there. They definitely did some call backs to their prior matches.

Jungle Boy did a promo on Christian. He said he wasn't just going to beat him, but would take years of off his wrestling career. JB broke a water bottle on his head and then threw it.

Stokeley Hathaway did a promo with his new group. He said All Out was the greatest moment of his career. A worker tried to tell him to wrap it up as they are low on time and then Stokeley hit him with a mic. The Gunn's beat up on him and W. Morrissey facekicked him. I presume Stokeley and crew will be suspended for this like "Punk and The Elite", right?

Claudio and Dax do promos against each other. Dax said he isn't the favorite, but he fights with his soul and for his family. He said he can't have Claudio beat him and take money from his bank account.

Some rapper named Westside Gunn rapped.

ROH Pure Title - Wheeler Yuta (c) vs Daniel Garcia

As you would expect, it was a longer, slower technical match. I had zero interest in this one and could not figure out why this was put in the main event over Page/Danielson or other things. Garcia ended up getting the win here. I don't get what AEW sees in these two and I would have rather seen anything else in this spot minus the women.

Overall thoughts:
A wrestling heavy show with a lot of chaos going on due to the situation with Punk/The Elite. I think it's a work but time will tell and it certainly messed up this show otherwise. The main shouldn't have been the main event and it was just kind of a weird show.
