AEW Rampage 7/22/2022

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/07/aew-rampage-7152022.html

John Silver and Adam Page vs The Butcher and The Blade

This was supposed to be Alex Reynolds and Silver, but Alex got beaten up by the Butcher and the Blade and is out.John is beat up in the corner early and double teamed. Butch rakes his face across the top rope and Blade stomps him. Page gets the hot tag in and springboard lariats Butch, fallaway slams Blade, then topes both wrestlers. Page then hits a top rope clothesline for 2.

We go to PiP break and return with Silver getting a tag in. He runs Blade into Butch then running euros Blade. John running forearms Blade and olympic slams him. John fights off both guys then takes a doctor bomb for 2. Blade somehow gets busted open out of nowhere then Page gets in and hits forearms on both opponents. Blade is back body dropped over the top then Page and Butch lariat battle.

Page flips out of a german and spinning lariats him. They mess with the lights for some reason and Silver cannonballs Blade off the apron. Butch then takes a stunner on the ropes into a german then takes a buckshot lariat for the Page and Silver win.

This was really rushed.

Wheeler Yuta does a promo about Daniel Garcia. He brought up Garcia's car accident and Garcia said this was no longer about wrestling. Garcia said he would twist his body and make him tap. I really don't remember the line about the car crash that started this. They also seemed to show some clips from some meeting between them that was not on tv.

Claudio Castagnoli comes out. He said the world title is the one thing that alluded him his whole career. He said he is the best because the fans support him. He said Gresham's Foundation is getting cracked because he made the mistake of tugging on Superman's cape. He said he will continue the next chapter of this run by beating Gresham. He then said he is the new Ring of Honor world champion. Tully Blanchard Enterprises is then quickly seen in the stands for maybe 2 seconds total.

We get a video package on Wardlow. He says he wanted the AEW TNT title because it was defended by the best against the best. He said he will beat the sh!t out of the AEW and ROH locker rooms. He said he welcomes anyone and everyone into Wardlow's World to find out where thye stand.

Dante Martin vs Lee Moriarty

They mat and chain wrestle to start then Dante headscissors him over. Lee then hits a facekick. Dante then kind of pops himself up and dropkicks Lee as we go to PiP break. We then go to full break and return. Lee is seated on the top rope and Dante flips and hurricanrana's him while standing on the mat. Dante does some parkour in the corner then top rope crossbodies him for 2.

Dante flips off the bottom rope and Lee slides in to roll him up and do a border city stretch. Stokeley Hathaway was on the ramp watching and making faces. Dante lifts him for a single chickenwing then twists him and drops him. Dante rolls him then Lee reverses it and pins him by grabbing the ropes. Stokeley is shocked and Lee is thrilled.

Matt Sydal then gets on the mic and questions his dirty tactics. He said he asked him if this was how he wanted to get the big win. He said he didn't think he was desperate enough to take the low road. He said he believed in him, but now believes he has to kick his @ss. He said he isn't facing the student, but the teacher next week and says he doesn't think he is ready. Stokeley shows Lee his business card after but Lee laughs it off and walks away.

The match was pretty quick and fast paced. Maybe it's not the greatest storyline ever, but at least they are doing something and trying to make these matches mean something.

We got a video package on Serena Deeb vs Mercedes Martinez. Deeb said she is at the highest level of her game and said no woman can touch her. MM said she's walking in and out as champion.

Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker vs Skye Blue and Ashley D'Amboise

Rebel is carrying a sandbag as they say it can stop a thunderstorm.

They tell us that FTR is selling a "fight like an 8 year old girl" shirt for some Heart Disease Foundation. Just why? Ashley has to change her name as it's hard to say and spell. Britt forearms Skye and throws her down. Skye does a matrix limbo out of a lariat then is superkicked while she is down. Jamie stomp flurries Skye in the corner then Britt smothers her face. Britt leg sweeps Skye then twisting neckbreakers her off the bridge from the apron to the floor. Skye low kicks her and swings around the leg to kick her while she is low.

Ashley and Jamie go at it but Ashley is stopped quick. Ashley takes a ripcord forearm then a uranage backbreaker. Britt then puts the glove on and does a weird spinning double underhook suplex. Jamie lariats Ashley hard in the back of the neck then Britt wins with the lockjaw.

This was just a squash here.

We get a video package on Ari Daivari. He's wearing a suit and walking around some big buildings. I wasn't a big fan of him on 205 Live and I'm not sure what he brings that someone else already doesn't bring.

Rampage Rap Battle - Max Caster vs Austin Gunn

A rapper named Lil' Scrappy is the judge. He says he is calling this right down the middle. He says the winner gets to choose the match stipulation.

The less said about this, the better. Of course it had racial remarks towards Gunn being White. Max won this then Billy Gunn nailed Lil' Scrappy. That was an immediate face turn in my eyes. Billy then threw out some other rapper. The Gunn's then beat up the Acclaimed after.

We got a split screen promo with Lethal, Singh and Dutt vs Daniels. Daniels said Samoa Joe's actions will stick up for him at the ROH PPV and said he's sick of his friend getting his name dragged in the mud. Lethal said he was worried about Joe's name getting dragged in the mud when he said he was going to drag him through the mud. Daniels caring about Joe is a new development, I guess. This did little to hype this one.

Excalibur did one of the fastest card rundowns I had ever seen. That was must see just for that.

Jay Lethal vs Christopher Daniels

I assume this is happening as a throwback to old ROH to hype up the PPV. Jay rushes Daniels and they fight in the corner. Jay kicks him then step up enzugiri's him. Jay hits some punches then misses a 2nd rope moonsault. Daniels then slingshot elbows him. Daniels back elbows him for 2 then Jay hits some european uppercuts. Daniels then leg lariats him out of the ring.

Jay moves out of Daniels' plancha then topes him. We go to PiP break with Jay in control. Jay hiptosses him into a cartwheel and a dropkick. Jay goes for the muscle buster for Daniels stops it. Daniels misses a 2nd rope dropkick then is superkicked while he is on his knees. Daniels hits lariats on Jay then sto's him. Daniels does a weak blue thunder for 2.

Jay hits a flatliner. He goes for a top rope elbow, Daniels gets his foot up and rolls him up. Jay then facekicks him. Lethal misses his lethal injection and backdrops Daniels. Lethal then goes for the lethal injection handspring cutter and wins it.

This really wasn't anything special. Jim Ross and Caprice Coleman worked together like oil and water here, frequently stepping on each others toes and ruining the match. Satnam Singh then grabs Daniels after and gorilla presses him on him on the floor. Jay then grounded sleepers Daniels outside to end the show as Sonjay Dutt talks trash.

Overall thoughts: Not a good one here. They had too much to try and get in and everything suffered because of it. Also, the rap battle was embarrassing.
