Big Japan Pro Wrestling 3/30/2022
I saw 5 of the 7 matches:
Kota Sekifuda & Tatsuhiko Yoshino vs. Chicharito Shoki & Kosuke Sato
Shoki and Kota throw dropkicks at the same time early. Yoshino snapmares Sato then headflips up and poses. Sato slaps Yoshino then hits a nice dropkick. Yoshino and Kota dod a oduble team sequence on Sato that ends in a dropkick and a pose then they do dives on their opponents outside.
Kota chops Sato then Yoshino drops double knees on Sato. Sato hits some forearms then Yoshino hits some right hooks at 5 minutes. Sato blocks his punches then hits a great dropkick and a suplex for 2. Shoki gets in headscissors then takes a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.
Kota gets in and double knees him in the corner. Shoki evades his slingshot double stomp, so he adds an extra jump and then double stomps him. Shoki is on the apron and rolls through into a facebuster. Sato gets in and PK's Kota then hits three nice dropkicks. Sato and Kota trade forearms then Sato PK's him for 2.
Yoshino takes a Shoki single leg dropkick then Shoki takes a Kota bicycle kick. Yoshino germans Sato then Kota hits Sato with a backdrop into a backcracker. Kota then top rope splashes Sato for the win.
I liked this one. It was fast paced action, they didn't overdo it and their stuff looked good. Sato's always a good watch and is almost always the highlight of matches he is in.
Kota and Shoki butt heads after.
Ryota Hama and Daisuke Sekimoto vs Takuya Nomura and Fuminori Abe
Abe hammerlocks him and Sekimoto tries to snapmare him but Abe rolls with him. Sek headscissors him and Abe does a great escape out of it. Sek blocks a sunset flip and they stand off.
Nomura hits some kicks on Hama and finally starts hurting him after a bunch. Abe and Nomura then double kick Hama then Hama double clotheslines both. Hama stands on Abe and Sek takes control on Abe and hits a nice neckbreaker. Hama stink faces Abe then lariats and elbow drops him for 2. Hama then misses a splash and Nomura gets in. Nomura knocks Sek off the apron with a nice facekick then flurry kicks Hama then runs into him and gets knocked down.
Sek does a neat powerslam/swinging fallaway slam on Nomura then Nomura suplexes him. Sek takes double slaps and a baseball punch. Abe gets on Hama's back for a sleeper then Hama falls back and squashes him. Hama then drops a nast leg drop on Nomura. Sek and Nomura trade shots then Nomura germans him. Sek then hits a nice german on him for the win.
This was really good. They went 10 minutes and played the david vs goliath storyline well with Abe/Nomura really having to work hard to do any damage to the bigger guys. Even Hama looked good here which is not something we normally see.
Lighttubes and Alpha Deathmatch - Abdullah Kobayashi, Jaki Numazawa & Ryuji Ito vs. GSHOCK1010 (Akira Hyodo & Kankuro Hoshino) & Michio Kageyama
Everyone fights outside the ring to start. Abby and Hoshino battle with a cowbell. We get back in the ring and Michio slams Ito then is thrown into tubes. Abby stabs Michio with something in the head and Jaki uses a butcher's knife on Michio. He then breaks a tube on his back with it. Michio's busted open and takes some tubes to the back.
Michio and Abby trade shots then Michio goes down to a headbutt and a bunch of punches. Abby then spinning headbutts him and Michio kicks some tubes into his body. Ito misses a moonsault then takes a gamengiri from Michio and some corner attacks. Ito gets beat up 1v3 then gets buzzsaw kicked by Michio for 2. Ito comes back and slams Michio on the side of a chair for 2. Ito then top rope frog splashes him for the win.
This was short and there wasn't a lot to it. Maybe that's for the better though with some of the people involved in this. I like Michio though. He bleeds and hasn't completely checked out like some of the other roster members.
BJW Tag Titles - Okami (Daichi Hashimoto & Hideyoshi Kamitani) (c) vs. Yankee Two Kenju (Isami Kodaka & Yuko Miyamoto)
Isami dares Daichi to try some kicks on him then they trade forearms. They really throw some fast ones. Kami and Yuko trade shots and Kami gets tripped into a dropkick on the bottom rope by Isami. Kami then lariats both opponents. Kami hits some corner spears on Isami then Isami tries to fight out of the corner but gets headbutted down.
Isami gets a forearm to Kami's gut and tags out. Yuko gets in and dropkicks Daichi off the apron then hits a nice dropkick on Kami. Kami then takes double baseball slides in the corner. Yuko and Isami then double cobra twist their opponents. Daichi gets in and hits some kicks on Yuko. Yuko then does a nice kick and slap combo to down him. Isami gets in and flying kicks Daichi. Isami and Daichi then go up top and Isami does a poor top rope hurricanrana.
Daichi hits a nice uranage on Isami then Kami drops a nice elbow on Isami. Kami goes for a top rope elbow but Isami catches it and armbars him which Kami ropebreaks for. Isami takes a 1v2 then gets double forearmed for 2. Kami accidentally lariats his own partner then he and Isami trade forearms. Kami irish whips him and Isami topes out on Daichi. Isami goes for a sunset flip on Kami and Yuko meteora's him for 2.
Isami hits an axe kick to the back of Kami's head then gets a high/low legsweep and lariat combo. Kami brainbusters Isami but it is no sold then he lariats him. He then backdrops Isami for the win.
I liked this one. It wasn't a classic or anything but it made sense and they didn't overdo it. Isami and Yuko tried a little here more than usual and it progressed well from start to finish. This was much better than I expected.
BJW Title - Yuji Okabayashi (c) vs Yasufumi Nakanoue
Slow start here then Naka hits some hard forearms in the corner. Oka hits some chops then Naka forearms him and gets chopped again. Oka then his a big slam and spear. Naka comes back with forearms then takes more chops. Naka vader bombs Oka for 2. Naka hits a hard forearm and a corner lariat, then Yuji rushes out with his own corner lariat and suplexes him.
Naka backdrops him then Yuji hits a big german. Naka avoids a lariat then hits his own german. Oka superplexes him from the 2nd buckle. They trade forearms for chops and Naka drills him with a spinning forearm. Naka then backdrops him for 2. Oka hits a big powerslam then brainbusters him. Oka then grabs his hair and lariats him.
Oka top rope splashes him but Naka gets his knees up. They collide with lariats then Oka koppo kicks him. Naka then lariats him for 2 and hits a bigger lariat for another 2. Naka top rope elbows him but Oka gets his knees up.
Naka gets another top rope elbow for 2. Oka goes for a powerbomb and Naka tries to escape it but he deadlift powerbombs him then lariats him in the back of the head. Oka hits another lariat for 2. Oka then top rope splashes him for the win.
I thought this was a very good match. They did a solid strong style match here with lariats, forearms and suplexes. They didn't do any stupid spots and didn't kick out of a bunch of stuff. It went close to 20 minutes and the flow was good from start to finish.
Overall thoughts: I thought this was a good one. 4 of the 5 matches I saw were pretty good. The main was as solid as a heavyweight match as you are going to get and the tag match outperformed expectations with the deathmatch guys (well, if you call Isami that) carrying their weight in a non-deathmatch. Astroanuts vs Hama/Sek was a good david vs goliath match and the juniors match was fine.
