AEW Dynamite 4/13/2022
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/04/aew-dynamite-462022.html
CM Punk vs Penta Oscuro
The crowd is hot and they trade chops. Penta hits some sling blades. Penta tries to dive on Punk but Punk slips back in then dives on him. We go to PiP break and return to Punk blowing a spot off the top. Punk then starts selling the knee off of it and Penta continues to work it. Penta goes up to the top and gets hurricanrana'd.
Penta goes for something then is put in the anaconda vice but Penta rope breaks. They fight on the apron then Punk springboard lariats him. Punk gets his go to sleep attempt blocked then Penta step-up enzugiri'd him. Penta comes off the 2nd rope and jumps into a GTS for the Punk win.
I wasn't a big fan of this one. They had a botch spot that I think was worked. Punk tried to work an injured knee story but could have been better with it. These two just didn't flow together well and it went longer than needed.
We saw the Jericho Appreciation Society arrive via jet. Eddie and crew showed up by car and we see that they had beaten up 2.0. They also took Drew Parker's shoes.
AEW Tag Titles - Jurassic Express vs Red Dragon
JB gets beat up on early then Kyle gets hiptossed into a dropkick. Kyle dragon screws Lucha over the top rope then Fish dragon screws Lucha on the outside. Kyle leg locks Lucha then Fish slingshot sentons him.
JB gets in and takes out Red Dragon then he dives on Fish and O'Reilly on the outside. Lucha then does an inside to outside moonsault off the apron onto Red Dragon. JB then does a flip dive on Fish but Fish wasn't paying attention and didn't catch him.
Kyle dragon screws JB then Fish arm ringers him on the apron. We go to PiP break and return. JB swings through the ropes to get out of an armdrag then tags in Lucha. Lucha takes on RD 1v2 and release germans Kyle on his head. Lucha double chokeslams RD then standing moonsaults Kyle. Kyle clips Lucha in the back of the knee then RD hits corner moves on him.
Lucha holds up Fish for a side slam then JB top rope elbows him for 2. JB takes a double team ddt then gets pushed into a german from Fish's feet. Fish top rope falcon arrow's JB over his partner and Lucha. JB of course kicks out. We get some kicks then JB jumps off Lucha's back for a ddt on Kyle. Fish then gets release backdropped and flipped into a JB sitout powerbomb for the Jurassic Express win.
It went on too long and they kicked out of too much as usual. Too many spots here and not much story.
Kyle O'Reilly hits his opponents with chairs after then holds up their belts. They go to leave then FTR comes out. They held up their belts like they wanted to maybe challenge for the AEW tag titles, but they did it in front of Red Dragon and didn't make that super clear.
The Blackpool Combat Club made Yuta's membership official. They said they would fight The Gunn Club. Mox called them goofs and said they would break their faces open. Yuta said the real work begins on Friday.
MJF vs Captain Shawn Dean
Dean is wearing facepaint and a beret. MJF's jacket gets stuck and he can't get it off. Spears tries to help but can't get it off either. Dean takes his eyes off MJF then gets nailed and MJF takes off his jacket.
MJF arm whips Dean into the ropes and poses then we see a tron video of security being laid out. MJF poses by the rail then Wardlow shows up behind him. Like a dummy, Wardlow stares at him instead of grabbing him then has to chase him. Spears chairs Wardlow in the back but he isn't affected. Security comes down and Wardlow apron powerbombs one of them until finally they hold him back. MJF is about to get counted out and the ref stops at 9 for some reason. MJF offers to triple Bryce's pay if he doesn't count, then Dean wins by count out.
The ref should have been counting regardless of MJF getting on the mic or not and there was really no match here.
MJF pushes the ref after and the ref pushes back. Spears pulls MJF off. We then cut to the back and see Wardlow beating up security. He then yells at the camera that he won't stop until MJF releases him from his contract.
We get a Darby Allin vignette. He has a coffin frame and challenges Andrade to a coffin match.
We get a House of Black vignette. Black said if his throat was ripped open, you'd find a dark abyss of razorblades. I don't know what he was talking about, but he said Fuego del Sol should learn to be afraid of the shadows.
Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz vs Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager and Daniel Garcia)
Ortiz comes out with Paker's shoes around his neck. Ortis hits some corner punches then a big boot. Everyone fights around the right then Ortiz back elvows Jericho. Jericho takes some corner moves then Ortiz gets popped up and thrown down by Jake. The match really slows down and we have a PiP break.
We return and Jericho misses a lionsault. Eddie gets the hot tag in and hits an enzugiri then double underhook suplexes Garcia. Eddie hits some machine gun chops and Santana hits a uranage. Ortiz 2nd rope legdrops Garcia then tope con hilos 2.0 on the outside. Jericho bat shots Eddie then Garcia rolls up Eddie for the win.
This started off really slow and they didn't really work it like they hated each other that much. I thought it was boring.
JAS beat up Eddie and friends after.
MJF, Spears and Mark Sterling are interviewed. MJF is mad, saying he is the prodigy and phenom. He is mad at the crowd for not having sympathy for him. MJF says he doesn't need sympathy though as he has money. Sterling reads the contract and says MJF can book Wardlow in any match he wants. He then brings out The Butcher who makes pose in the camera.
Marina Shafir vs Skye Blue
Mark Sterling and Jade Cargill are shown watching this from the back. Red Velvet and Kiera Hogan are in Jade's baddie section. Skye puts a guillotine on Marina and is thrown down. We got a generous camera angle of Skye's backside. Marina got a triangle with Skye's leg hooked in and then won it in quick fashion.
The crowd was not interested in this at all and it was a total one sided squash.
Hook is about to be interviewed then Tony Nese and Mark Sterling walk in. Hook picks up a medicine ball and they leave. Danhausen then pops up from behind and Hook throws the ball at him.
Page, Sky and Lambert did a promo complaining about Sammy Guevarra. Sky said Sammy isn't getting the match he wanted, but the whooping he needs.
Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks vs Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee
Hobbs shoulders Swerve down early then fallaway slams him. Swerve gets his arm worked on then gets some offense in. Lee hits a big double chop on Starks. Team Tazz is thrown out then Swerve jumps off the top and moonsaults off of Lee's chest onto his opponents outside.
We then go to PiP break and return. Keith Lee gets the hot tag in and beats up on Starks. Lee reverse leapfrogs on Hobbs and Hobbs spears Starks in the corner. He then throws Starks into Hobbs. Starks takes a 1v2 and gets sandwiched spinning shots.
Swerve rolls and gets speared then Sparks canadian destroyer ddt's him...for 2. Swerve has Starks on his shoulders on the 2nd rope then drops down and Hobbs spears Starks. Tazz comes down. Swerve gets pushed off the top then Starks hurricanrana's Lee. Hobbs goes into the post outside then Starks spears Lee off the 2nd rope. He tries to pin him but Swerve 450's him off the top.
Tazz trips Lee then Hobbs hits a spinebuster for the win.
Neither Lee or Swerve needed to lose here and Lee especially didn't need to take the fall. They did too much here, it went longer than it needed to and I didn't like the kick out on the flipping ddt.
There was a segment with Thunder Rosa that I skipped.
They ran down some upcoming cards and announced a big announcement for next week.
ROH World Television Title - Minoru Suzuki (c) vs Samoa Joe
They get in each others faces and stare down. They then chop each other for a while then move onto forearms. Joe runs him over with a shoulder and Suzuki armbars him over the the to rope.
We go to PiP break where they trade more chops and forearms. Suzuki armbars him and they trade headbutts. As we return, Joe has a crossface on Suzuki and Joe has to break it. Suzuki face kicks him then PK's him for 2. They trade more chops then Joe sideslams him.
Suzuki dropkicks him then Joe muscle busters him for the win.
I didn't think this was that great. It wasn't that well built and it really was just chops without much meaning at a slower pace.
Overall thoughts: This was a very wrestling heavy show. Lately, all of AEW's shows have been very wrestling heavy. Because of it, it didn't have a lot of the issues AEW shows usually have, but various non-wrestling segments are important to hyping the show. I didn't think the matches were that good though and I wasn't too into this one.
