Dragon Gate 3/5/2022 Champion Gate Day 1

Dragon Gate 3/5/2022 Champion Gate Day 1

The crowd isn't allowed to cheer, has no interest in clapping and is in a big arena, so this really sucked the soul out of everything. I skipped two matches because it was just tough.

Open the Brave Gate: Dragon Dia (c) vs Takuma Fujiwara

TF hits some chops and a back elbow before a tope con hilo. Dia hits a headscissors in the corner then they both trade forearms. Dia hit a dropkick then put him in a pendulum and banged his head off the buckle. Dia then hit him with a back body drop for 2.

TF came back with a springboard dropkick and Dia did a nice rolling back bump for it. TF hit a springboard asai for 2 after hitting his slingshot double footstomp. Dia hit a cartwheel into a back elbow then running SSP'd him for 2.

TF did a double reverse armbar hen hit a reverse slam. Dia came back with a ddt from the 2nd rope. They rolled each other up then Dia did a Toyota roll into a crucifix bomb for the win.

The selling wasn't that great here but TF did really well in one of his first big matches and looked like he belonged. They worked pretty well together and it was a fast paced match.

Yuki Yoshioka vs SB Kento

They do some basic stuff then SB eye pokes him and takes a back elbow for it. SB is in the corner and takes off a turnbuckle pad then Yuki runs into it. SB takes off more pads. Yuki got hit with a baseball slide dropkick then came back with a suplex. He then hit a nice dropkick but was immediately back dropped on his head after.

Z-Brats then just randomly came in and stomped Yuki, giving Yuki the DQ win.

The match was okay up until the pointless and senseless finish. This then led to...
Yosuke Santa Maria and Eita vs Diamante and Hyo

Yosuke had his legs split and locked by the heels. Hyo put him in a sleeper as Diamante guarded. Eita eventually got on and knocked Hyo off the 2nd rope then took a springboard dropkick from Dia.

Dia and Hyo splashed Eita. Yosuke then got rolled up by Hyo soon after.

This was a waste of time and not very good.

Z-BRATS (Kai, Bxb Hulk and Shun Skywaler) vs Natural Vibes (Big Boss Shimizu, Susumu Yokosuka and Genki Horiguchi)

Boss shouldered over Kai to start then Vibes took over on Kai for a bit. Hulk tripped Genki into a Kai elbow then step kicked him while he was in the camel clutch. Genki hit a hurricanrana on Shun then Hulk took a flying shoulder from Boss. Boss then body blocked Kai. Boss and Kai traded lariats then lariated each other at the same time.

Hulk hit kicks on Susumu and took a lariat. Hulk hit his standing corkscrew moonsault then Boss tried to do his dance and got cut off by Kai. Boss took a bunch of kicks and was triple powerbombed by Z-Brats. Shun hit a tiger driver on Ganki for 2 then Genki got a 2 count off a backslide on Kai. Boss then rolled up Kai and won it.

This really wasn't too great with everyone just going through the motions.

Open the Triangle Gate - Natural Vibes (Kzy, U-T and Jacky "Funky" Kamei) (c) vs Gold Class (Naruki Doi, Kota Minoura and Kaito Ishida)

Kota avoided Jacky's dropkick to start then U-T dropkicked Doi's knee. KZY did a slingshot senton in on Doi then Vibes combo'd Ishida into a Jacky baseball slide. Kzy went for a springboard but was knocked off the ropes by Ishida then soon after, Doi spinebustered Jacky and Kota/Ishida dropkicked him at the same time.

Jacky was beat on for a little the top rope dropkicked Doi. Kzy hit a twisting 2nd rope euro on Kaito then Jacky did a nice tornillo to the outside. Vibes hit running back elbows in the corner on Doi then Jacky spin kicked Doi and U-T neckbreakered him for 2. Jacky got on Kota's shoulders and Kzy spun him into a ddt.

Kota top rope butterfly suplexed Kzy then Kaito was pop-up euro'd by Kzy. Doi DDT'd Kzy then Kota explodered Jacky. Jacky rolled up Doi for a close 2 then Kzy rolled Doi around the ring. Kzy and Kaito traded forearms. Kzy went for a roll-up on Kaito but got reversed then took an enzugiri. Kaito PK'd Kzy hard off the apron then Kota falcon arrowed U-T for 2. U-T had a real close roll-up then U-T was enzugiri'd into a german. Kota then ligerbombed U-T for the win. Gold Class wins the trios titles.

The crowd was brutal here and they had to work them harder than they worked each other in the ring. They eventually got them into it, but it was a tough task. The last few minutes were good but it was a rough road to get there. DG also loves to give new units titles so I expected Gold Class to win here.

Takumi Hayakawa joined Gold Class after.

Overall thoughts: This was a brutal show to sit through due to the crowd being into this show like it was a funeral. It just brought down everything. Some people didn't really try because there wasn't much point to it and this was not DG's best.
