AEW Dynamite 2/9/2022

AEW Dynamite 2/9/2022

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/02/aew-dynamite-222022.html

There's supposed to be a big debut tonight. We'll see who it is. The internet expects Keith Lee and some have joked about Triple H or Shane McMahon, but I think Jay White is the mystery man. Keith is possible too though.

Wardlow came out with MJF carboard cutouts. The rest of the Pinnacle then got seperate entrances out. They all got phrases about them in their introductions and MJF had a long one. MJF was brought out in a big chair with people carrying it. MJF had girls come out and made out with two of them, which I'm sure some sections of AEW fans will be mad at.

MJF said he was the best in the world and bragged about his win. He put over Shawn Spears for helping him win and ignored Wardlow, who helped him win it. Shawn said he made a shirt for him as a gift. He said it is time he becomes champion.

CM Punk came out and Tony Schiavone said he has to talk to him since he shut up MJF. Punk said he learned from to not come out alone and said he had friends. Darby and Sting came out with baseball bats. He said he wanted a rematch or they were coming down and hitting them with bats. MJF objected to it and Punk said he is talking to Wardlow, since he's the one who beat him in the MJF match. MJF said he beat him by himself and Punk egged on Wardlow, asking if he heard that. Dax of FTR said he wanted a rematch with Punk from their 6-man. MJF said he'd give Punk a tag match against FTR, but it couldn't be with Sting or Darby as his partners. MJF then said Wardlow has a match next.

I didn't like this as it took too long to get to the point and the payoff wasn't that great.

Sting and Darby talked to Andrade in the back. Darby said he still wasn't interested in working for him and Andrade said Darby will work for him. Darby said he wanted the TNT Title but Andrade said he is the next TNT champ.

The Blade vs Wardlow

Shawn Spears is out there with Wardlow. Blade jumps Wardlow to start then Wardlow came back with a lariat. He then hit a couple belly to belly suplexes. We went to PiP break and came back with the match still on. Wardlow hit some corner spears and euro uppercuts. Wardlow ran into a knee then powerbombed him multiple times to win it in a squash. Spears then hit Blade with a chair after.

We got a vignette on Penta. He went to a graveyard and dug up a mask.

The Inner Circle came out for their meeting, though Santana and Ortiz didn't come with them. Jericho said he didn't know where they are then they came out seperately. Jericho said them not tagging him in was disrespectful and unacceptable. Santana said Jericho only cares about himself and said Jericho keeps interrupting them when they are moving up so they can rescue him. Santana said they won't play second fiddle to him anymore and said Jericho always stood in their way. Santana said Ortiz stopped him from dropping Jericho a long time ago.

Jericho said he reminds him of Eddie Guerrero as he gets hyped up and blames his friends. Jericho blamed Eddie Kingston for convincing him to go after the tag titles and asked what Eddie has done for them? Jericho said they lost their tag title match against the Bucks and it had nothing to to do with them. Jericho then said he brought them in the Inner Circle and can kick them out. Jericho said maybe he brought the wrong 2 members of LAX in and then asked Jake Hager about Homicide and Hernandez. Sammy tried to play peacemaker and Jericho told him to shut up. Sammy said the Inner Circle is his family and his goal to be the best champion isn't going to be reached with all this arguing. Sammy said he quit the group before and will quit again if they don't figure it out, then threw down his Inner Circle vest. Ortiz blamed Jericho and said Eddie Kingston has done a lot for them. Ortiz said they solve problems by fighting and challenged Jericho and Hager to a tag match next week. Jericho agreed. This was a good segment.

Trent and Rocky Romero were interviewed about their match with the Bucks. The Bucks and Adam Cole then beat them up then Jay White showed up. He threw Trent into the side of the truck. So he's one of the big surprises. I'm not a Jay White fan, so that does little for me. He didn't feel big here and this was a poor way to debut him.

Face of the Revolution Ladder Match Qualifier - Isiah Kassidy vs Keith Lee

Keith Lee is the other surprise of the night. I'm not a big fan. He did some good stuff in WWE but he doesn't really know how to work like a guy his size should.

Lee does a giant throw to start, and I mean a giant one. Lee did a bad leapfrog then crossbodies him. Lee has put on some weight. Lee did a slingshot crossbody in. Kassidy hit a dropkick then got shoulder blocked out of the ring. Matt Hardy went to leave and Lee warned Marq Quen. Quen did grab his leg and then Kassidy did a tornillo over the top. Lee chopped down an SOS kick and got the win soon after. Quen jumped him with dropkicks and Lee took double dropkicks from PP. Kassidy dove on him and got caught then Marq Quen tried a dive but got caught and powerbombed on Kassidy and the apron.

Britt Baker said she brought in Mercedes Martinez and Rosa said she wasn't surprised by MM. Britt said MM and Rosa will rematch in a No DQ match.

Jon Moxley and CM Punk vs FTR

Punk and Cash did some hiptosses and armdrags early. Mox hit some penalty kicks on Dax. FTR worked Punk's leg and the match really slowed down. Mox hit a big back body drop on Cash then german suplexed both FTR members. Punk dove on FTR and got caught then Mox dived onto all 3.

We went to PiP break and Mox was almost counted out on our return. Cash took a hard back drop driver. Cash held up Punk at waist level and Dax top rope leg dropped him. Mox hit a giant lariat on Cash then Punk got some offense in. Dax got caught with a doomsday device then Mox plancha's Cash. Punk got hit with a ring bell from Cash and then took a Dax brainbuster for 2. Punk took a 3D/Codebreaker combo.

Punk ended up catching Cash with an Anaconda Vice but Tully Blanchard broke it up. Punk hit a GTS on Tully that was almost botched, then Punk hit a GTS and Mox hit a Paradigm Shift to win the match.

This just went too long at around 20 minutes. I thought they did too much and started the finishing stretch teases too early.

TBS Women's title - Jade Cargill (c) vs A.Q.A.

A.Q.A. is Zayda Ramier. She was in NXT, but just in squash matches and didn't really stand out.  She did an inset promo saying she is 25, trained by Booker T and has beaten some of the best women's wrestlers.

Jade throws her early. AQA hit an armdrag then Jade picked her up with one arm which she was in a keylock and dropped her back. Jade popped up AQA but she dropkicked her then Jade forearmed her on the floor. We went to PiP break and came back. Jade had gorilla pressed her then took a sling blade. Jade took a ddt then AQA hit a shooting star press for 2. AQA botched something up top and they had to re-do the spot. Jade then caught her off the 2nd rope with a tour of the islands slam and hit the double chickenwing slam for the win. The SSP was really nice but this was sloppy.

The Bucks and Cole did a promo on Trent and Rocky Romero. The Bucks said it is time to climb the rankings and the belts would come back to them. Cole then said Jay White is their man and will help them. The Bucks were unsure of White and Cole said they can trust him.

Serena Deeb came out. She said nobody in the back is on her level and said she would issue a 5 minute rookie challenge.

Serena Deeb vs Katie Arquette

Deeb euro uppercutted her then danced around. She turned her back on her then hit a spinning neckbreaker. Deeb then hit the tequila sunrise to win it quick at 1:00.

Jurassic Express and The Gunn Club talked about their upcoming match. The Gunn Club said they are gorgeous and athletic, so they deserve it. Billy Gunn said they have two words for them - new champs.

AEW Title - Texas Death Match - Adam Page vs Lance Archer

The fight started in the back before they entered. Archer was thrown into boxes and a scissors lift. Page hit Archer with the belt and threw him through the entrance glass pane. Archer got hardway blood and Page hit a buckshot lariat. The ref started counting to 10 to count out Lance, but a texas death match usually requires you to pin the guy then the count goes on.

Page plancha'd Archer and Archer hit him with a trash can lid as he hit a suicide dive. He then hit him with the lid more and Dan Lambert came out to unscrew the top rope. Tony S said it was so Page couldn't do the buckshot lariat. They brawled into the crowd and Page moonsaulted off the barricade onto Archer.

They went back in and Page noticed the top rope was down, so no buckshot lariat. We went to PiP break as Archer hits a black hole slam. Archer set up tables next to each other outside. They fought on the apron when we returned and Pahe got cut open hard somehow. Jake hit Page with a short arm ddt and Archer stopped Jake from interfering more. Archer then got DDT's on the mat outside and Jake flipped out Page.

Page hit Archer with kendo stick shots and Archer broke the stick. Archer then chokeslammed him on a trash can. Archer then stabbed Page with a fork. and licked it. Archer then did a cannonball off the apron onto Page and held up the title.

Archer grabbed a barb wire chair and hit Page with a blackout from the apron onto the side of the steps. Page wrapped his hand in the wire and got some punches on Archer then discus forearms. Page then hit a bad german on him and Page did the buckshot lariat over the ref's back and went through the table outside with Lance. Page then won by countout.

I thought Archer took a little too much damage here but I liked it otherwise. The flip over the ref at the end was stupid though. I liked all the blood.

Adam Cole came out after and took the belt from Page. He then put it on him and walked away.

Overall thoughts: The opening promo was confusing. The main was good and I thought the Punk/Mox vs FTR match was good at times but then went too long. I didn't think the Lee or White debuts were great but I did like the Inner Circle meeting. I disliked most of the show though.
