AEW Dynamite 5/12/2021
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/05/aew-dynamite-blood-n-guts-552021.html
IWGP US Title - Jon Moxley (c) vs Yuji Nagata
Mox came out to Wild Thing, but not the cool Onita version, the actual version. Yuji was just thrown out here without any package or anything to help make people care.
They shove each other to start and trade forearms. Yuji hit a nice facekick and they showed Rocky Romero in attendance here. Mox eye raked Yuji on the outside and threw him into the post. Mox then dove off the apron to knee Nagata in the back. Back in the ring and Mox running knee's him and Jake/Archer are watching.
Mox penalty kicked him and Nagata came back with kicks. Nagata exploder suplexes him for 2. Nagata hit more kicks and Mox fired up. They traded forearms and Mox german'd him, then lariated him.
Yuji hit an exploder off the 2nd rope onto Mox then chest kicked him for 2. Nagata puts his armbar onto Mox but Mox hit the ropes. they traded more forearms and Mox took a face kick. Mox came back though with a bouncing lariat on the ropes. Mox then started bleeding.
Mox hit some knees and a paradigm shift ddt to win it. The match was decent but a waste of Nagata. This would have been so much better with some build to it.
3 of the Inner Circle did an interview. They said MJF got Santana arrested for stabbing him with a fork and weren't happy. Hager said they failed and they want another match. Sammy Guevarra said they want a rematch and will turn tonight into the funeral for the Pinnacle. I'm not a fan of these guys being back the next week after a crazy bloody match and I'm not a fan of this feud going on longer. They should be selling their injuries for a while instead.
Cody cut a pro-USA promo on Ogogo. This is just really out of place on this show and Ogogo hasn't really been played up as a foreign anti-USA heel, so this didn't work. This was just a really stupid promo that turned off a variety of groups on all sides of the political spectrum. Cody, a guy who is part Cuban and identifies as Cuban said his daughter will be white and black. Cody then called himself "The American Dream" at the end of it when he said Ogogo would be facing him at the PPV.
We got a package on SCU.
AEW Tag Titles - The Young Bucks vs SCU
Kaz hit a flipping neckbreaker early. Daniels did his slingshot elbow then Kaz did a slingshot legdrop. Daniels was back body dropped to the floor and the Matt dropkicked him hard through the ropes.
Daniels was bridged to the apron on the outside and one of the Bucks flipped on him. WE went to picture in picture break and SCU double hiptossed a Buck into a neckbreaker + powerbomb combo. Kaz then back flipped Matt into double knees from Daniels. Daniels got knocked off the top and one of the bucks had his head drive nint othe canvas while hanging over the middle rope.
Nick slingshot facebustered Kaz and then superkicked Daniels' head into the ringpost. Daniels then started bleeding bad. Kaz slingshotted Nick into a cutter. Matt buckle bombed Kaz into an enzugirir in the corner. Kaz caught one of the Bucks with a northern lights while pinning the other, then back body dropped a Buck onto the ramp.
Doc and Anderson distracted the ref during a count and Kaz hit a styles clash on a Buck for 2. Kaz was tombstoned hard onto his head then Daniels came in and hit an angels wings on Nick. Matt speared Daniels then flurry punched him. Daniels bled all over one of the Bucks' shoes and Matt mocked Shawn Michaels's "I'm sorry I love you", before kicking Daniles in the head for 2. Daniels came back and slipped on a moonsault then finally was able to hit it.
Daniels got sprayed in the eyes with cold spray but it was only for 2. The Bucks hit a BTE trigger on daniels and beat him. So that should be the end of SCU since they promised to break-up if they lost.
The blood was wild here and was the main highlight of the match. This was the same Young Bucks match as always with some bonus interference and weapons that didn't play into the finish. SCU going through all of this angle for months just to lose here was really stupid, especially since this was just Dynamite and not a PPV or something.
We cut away from this to find Moxley and Eddie Kingstop ripping up The Elite's locker room and that really made SCU look even dumber here. No goodbyes or anything from SCU and it was merely an afterthought. What awful booking.
We come back from break and are shown SCU hugging. Doesn't make up for it though.
Christian Cage was interviewed. He said he will be in and win a Casino Battle Royale at the next PPV. Matt Sydal then came in and said he would get some redemption. Christian brought up his botch last year which they still won't let go. Sydal then said he signed an open contract to face Christian next week.
Orange Cassidy vs Pac
OC put his glasses on Pac and Pac broke them. OC then hit a beach break for a close call. OC then tope'd Pac with his hands in his pockets and put on another pair of glasses. Pac was thrown into the rails during a picture in picture break.
We then went to a full break and Pac was in control and throwing OC into the rails. Pac kneel'd on OC's throat and he turned bright red then took a shotgun dropkick from the top. Pac hit another shotgun dropkick from the top.
OC avoided Pac's twisting ssp off the top and ended up eating a superkick and a hard liger bomb. We then had another picture in picture break.
Callis distracted Pac then Omega hit Pac with a belt in the back. Both Pac and OC ended up not being able to get up for the 10 count Callis said this means there will be an off day.
Tony Schiavone then came out and said there will be a triple threat match with Omega vs Pac vs Orange Cassidy at the PPV. Omega and Callis were both mad at this. As usual, I didn't like OC's fooling around nor did I like Pac not making him pay for it. I didn't really appreciate the non-finish either.
The Bucks and The Good Brothers did a promo. They said they put SCU out to the pasture and challenged The Varsity Blonds for next week. They also challenged Kingston and Mox for the PPV.
The Dark Order did a promo. Page talked about how he ended up losing to Cage. He blamed Taz for it though as he called the shots. Page challenged him to a match without Team Taz around.
The Pinnacle came out for their coronation and they pimped their ratings for the show last week. MJF came out and told people to bow to Pinnacle. MJF then started talking about ratings. MJF asked the crowd if they wanted a rematch with The Inner Circle when they said yes, he said no.
Tully Blanchard gave The Pinnacle watches. then a horn started sounding off. It turned out to be Sammy, Ortiz and Hager in a champagne truck with Jericho's champagne in it. MJF told them to drive off. Jericho was revealed to be in the back of the truck and asked if they will give thme a rematch. MJF said no then Sammy sprayed champagne on Pinnacle ala Austin with the berr truck and Angle with the milk truck. It wasn't sprayed hard enough here for the selling they did and it was a stupid clone of a WWE angle. I swear sometimes this feels like an alternate WWE. MJF then said they would take them on at Stadium Stampede at the ppv.
As I said earlier, both teams should be out selling injuries here, especially Jericho who was thrown off the cage onto "concrete". That's one issue. The champagne truck angle was dumb and looked bad. And booking Wargames to open for a Stadium Stampede match was dumb too. What a mess this was.
Britt Baker did a taped sit down interview with JR. She said a year ago Shida broke her nose and now the monster that was created by Baker will be dethroned by Baker. They showed Britt disrupting a photo shoot with Tony Khan then getting into it with Shida. This apparently only aired on twitter, so them referencing it was odd. Britt said she is the heart of the women's division.
Thunder Rosa vs Jazmin Allure
Rosa corner speared her to start and shotgun dropkicked her. Rosa then did a running senton a version of the emerald flowsion for the win in a quick squash.
Tony Schiavone interviewed Jade Cargill. We saw Smart Mark Sterling asking to manage Jade. He's from Zack Ryder's podcast. Jade says she is her own boss but she will listen to offers. This is a weird angle. If she doesn't want anyone to manage her, why is she letting people offer to?
They did a promo with Darby driving. He said he didn't have time to think of being thrown down the stairs. Darby was interviewed at a skate park and asked what Miro was doing since he has been here. He asked if Miro knew who he was and said he won't take his title. Darby then said he was one of the toughest men Miro ever stepped in the ring with.
TNT Title - Darby Allin (c) with Sting vs Miro
Not a fan of Darby wrestling here after being thrown down the stairs the week prior.
Miro nails Darby as he enters and throws him hard. He then pounds on him in the corner and throws him into the ropes so he whiplashes. Darby then takes a high throw onto the floor. Miro throws Darby into the rails and lariats him hard over the rail. He then back dropped him hard over the rail again. Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky were shown enjoying this.
Miro hit a hard running knee to Darby's face in the corner and like a moron, Darby agrees to finally let the match start officially. Miro hits a hard superkick to Darby's face.
Darby rolls outside and hits some shotgun dropkicks to Miro. Miro ends up going into the ringpost and Darby tope's him hard. Darby then coffin drops him but Miro catches him and german suplexes him hard on the floor. We go to picture in picture break because God forbid we see a match in full-picture here.
Miro threw Darby on a slam into the ropes. Darby fist bumped Sting and went over Miro's back for a stunner. Miro tried a pop-up slam but Darby hit an over the back cover again. Darby tried a coffin drop but Miro caught him. Darby hit a code red for 2. Miro tied up Darby's legs and pulled him back wit ha facelock and won it.
Page and Sky attacked Sting again but The Dark Order made the save. Archer and Jake then came out and Archer was pointing fingers at Miro. Archer is now seemingly in 3 different feuds at once with Sting, Page/Sky and Miro.
Darby took too much abuse here and it will be a miracle if he isn't hurt here. Darby didn't sell enough for the abuse he took as the match really could have ended multiple times. If they had done about half of what they did, I think it would have been a good one.
Overall thoughts: Not a good one here. The Pinnacle/Inner Circle stuff sucked. The SCU angle was horribly botched and Cody's promo was awful. People also didn't sell their injuries enough from last week.
