Impact Wrestling 4/8/2021

Impact Wrestling 4/8/2021

They recap last week's show and we see Don Callis, Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers arrive.

Rosemary with Decay, Jordynne Grace, & Havok vs Tenille Dashwood with Kaleb with a K, Nevaeh, & Alisha

Grace and Alisha start things off and Alisha basement flatliners her. Grace then slams and jackhammers Alisha for 2. Rosemary gets in but is senton'd on her back by Alisha. Rosemary then fallaway slams her. Tenille is tagged and doesn't want to get in. Rosemary chases her around outside then she runs into Taurus and Havok. Havok knocks her head off the steps and she is put on a table.

Kaleb saves Tenille from the table but Grace tope's Kaleb. Tenille then has her lower back run into the apron. Grace is caught coming in and takes a neckbreaker hanging off the 2nd rope. Graces is beat up in the corner but tags out to Rosemary who spears Alisha hard.

Rosemary then exploders Alisha. Rosemary hanging headscissor chokes her over the top rope. Alisha spinning forearms Rosemary then cuts her from the reverse ddt position for 2. Rosemary double underhooks her and then drops her on her butt. Nevaeh gets in and she and Havok fight on the apron. Neveah then russian leg sweeps Havok through the table outside.

Alisha crossbodies Rosemary from the top but is caught and F-5'd for the Rosemary win. This was fine though I do question doing a big table spot like this in the opener and mostly making it a throwaway. This is the first time Rosemary has wrestled on Impact's TV show in months.
D'Lo and Striker talk about the show.

Matt Cardona is interviewed. He said he is confused by Brian Myers. He said he is happy he turned down his challenge. He said he didn't want to fight or team with him and came here for an oppurtunity. He said he asked Scott D'Amore for a match with someone who can fight and was given Jake Something. He said Jake is not getting his big break tonight by beating him.

They announce "Let Get Wilde" for an unknown date in April, which likely is some special. They better figure it out though considering we have 3 weeks left until May.

Deonna P is with Susan, who is in a trance and out of it at a doctor's office. The doctor says "her time has come".

Matt Cardona vs Jake Something

They push each other early and Jake shoulders him down. Jake clubs his back and takes a dropkick back. Matt goes through the ropes to go after him and is lariated on the floor.

Matt dropkicks him through the ropes and Jake running body blocks him back inside. Jake hits a few forearms and Matt reverses a suplex into a neckbreaker. Jake accidentally spears the middle buckle and takes a facewash in the corner. Matt tries to hurricanrana Jake but is hit with a hard powerbomb.

Matt goes for it again and hurricanrana's himself and Jake over the top to the floor. Brian Myers then comes out and pushes both into the apron. He then jumping flatliners Cardona on the ramp and runs Jake into the post and steps. Jake hits the corner of the step with his eye and Brian grabs the mic. He said he is accepting Matt's challenge for a match but says he will be another victim to his move (the roster cut).

I didn't mind this match at all. It wasn't that long and they did some big moves for it.

Team XXXL goes up to Trey Miguel in the back. They ask if he's ready to get his @ss kicked. Trey said he isn't Sami's friend and won't team with him tonight. Larry says it sounds like the words of a man who lacks passion, which is what Sami always says to Trey.

Violent by Design does a promo. EY says this movement will move forward. He said he lost last week but Deaner failed himself and the group. He said he will suffer the consequences. He said Deaner must prove himself and show the world that this world belongs to VbD.  This was a little confusing. Why would Deaner suffer for EY's loss and what exactly are they doing with him tonight?

Team XXXL vs Sami Callihan and Trey Miguel

Trye doesn't come out initially but changes his mind. Trey starts off by dropkicking Acey. He grabs Larry by the mouth and chops him and is popped up into a knee. Trey enzugiri's Larry and Sami interrupts his dive by tagging himself in. Sami springboard clotheslines Acey on the apron and yells at him.

We go to break and return with Sami taking control over the break. Trey gets tagged in and walks into a side slam. XXXL grabs Trey by the arms and legs and stretches him. Trey then springboards into a hard ddt on Larry. Trey goes up top and Sami tags himself in. They argue and Trey takes a swing and is put on Larry's shoulders. Sami kicks out Larry's leg and it turns into a hurricanrana.

Trey tags himself in and Acey bangs their heads together as they argue. Trey neckbreakers Acey from the 2nd rope and he stares down with Sami. They then tope their opponents on both sides. Trey then wraps up Larry's leg and suplexes him then does a leg and arm submission to win. This served its purpose to further this Sami/Trey storyline and I didn't have any problems with it.

We go to Swinger's Palace in the back. Sabin, Storm, Chris Harris are losing and go to leave. Storm gives Harris his chips and says "win us some beer money", which Harris protests as Beer Money was the name of Storm's team with Robert Roode. They laugh about it and Swinger celebrates all the chips he has.

Chris Sabin with James Storm vs Deaner

VbD is not with Deaner tonight, though they hinted towards that earlier. They start off fast as Sabin dropkicks the knee and Sabin traps him for a 2 count. Sabin hammerlocks him then grabs him by the chin but Deaner escapes. Deaner then pounds on him in the corner.

Deaner puts Sabin's back neck against the turnbuckle and dropkicks him in the butt. Deaner then cranks Sabin's neck and they crossbody each other at the same time. Sabin gets some offense in including a face kick and a fisherman's buster for 2.

Sabin crossbodies Deaner off the top and Deaner rolls through for a 2 count. Sabin gets laid across the top rope and Deaner charged into him. Deaner then swung him up from the mat into a powerbomb for 2. Deaner gets him by the eyes and puts his feet on the ropes for a pin and is caught. Deaner argues with the ref and takes a cradle shock for Sabin win. EY gets on the tron after and said Deaner's goal wasn't to win or lose but set up a trap. Doering has Chris Harris in a hold then Rhyno comes in and gores Storm. They force Sabin and Storm to watch as Doering chokes Harris. EY then says "this blood is on your hands" and grabs a chair as their feed cuts out.

I felt like they spent too much time focusing on the refs/people getting their foot on the ropes here and I expected a different ending than what we got. I don't like the idea of people going into matches not caring if they win or lose.

Ace Austin talks to Madman Fulton in the back. Ace complains about having to jump through hoops and Josh Alexander goes up to him. He says he, Ace and TJP will fight in a 3 way at the PPV. TJP then comes in. He says he has beaten both of them and they argue. Tommy Dreamer gets involved and makes a 3 way between Ace/Fulton vs TJP and a mystery partner and Alexander and a mystery partner. That's a lot of mystery partners there.

Eric Young passes by Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer tells him he can't get away with anything they want. He says justice comes to everyone sooner or later and says EY has been hurting his friends. He tells EY he doesn't have the sickness and is full of crap. EY then says Dreamer has more sickness than anyone. Dreamer says he needs a match at Hardcore Justice and challenges him to get his crew and he will get his crew to fight. EY says his friends will be in for a war.

Jazz talks about her history and says she was trained by Junkyard Dog. She said she was trained on friday and had a match on saturday. She talked about getting a break with ECW then having tochangh things up in WWE. She said she always wanted to be part of Impact and wants the Knockouts title to add to her legacy. She said Deonna's crew screwed her whe nthey fought last time and she wanted a match so bad that she was willing to put her career on the line. She said she will become the champ. I liked this segment. It was straight and to the point and made Jazz putting her career up for grabs more important.

Deonna P. gets interviewed. She said women like ODB and Jazz set the stage for women's wrestling. She said she is building upon the foundation that Jazz built, but what she is building crushes Jazz's foundation. She said she is building a new foundation for the new generation. She brings up that Susan won't be at ringside and Deonna says she built her legacy on her own back. She says she is going to retire Jazz.

Brian Myers and Tommy Dreamer talk in the back. Tommy said Brian is always making people mad. He said Jake wanted a match with Brian but Brian said he is booked already. Tommy then said he and Jake will be in a first ever "Blindgames" match, which Tommy explains is a hardcore blindfold match. Brian says "You know why this has never been done? Because it's stupid!". That was hilarious. Tommy then says Brian is stupid.

They run down Hardcore Justice which is at 3PM on the first day of Wrestlemania. We'll see what happens as it comes to me reviewing it.

Rich Swann, Willie Mack and Eddie Edwards vs Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers with Don Callis

Don gets his own entrance and introduces Kenny. The faces get jumped to start before the bell. Rich comes back with punches on Kenny but is tripped and pulled out. Kenny tries to dive on him but plancha's his own partners. The faces then all hit dives on their opponents.

We go to break and return with Karl Anderson taking corner moves. The heels take back control and punish Eddie in the corner.

Eddie gets worked over for a bit and dropkicks Gallows form the buckles, then tags out. Mack comes in and  gets some offense in on Karl and does a big legdrop. Mack standing moonsaults Karl and Omega at the same time. We go to break as Doc fish hooks Willie.

Back from break and Mack gets worked on. He takes a boot from Gallows to the face and takes more abuse. Will mounts a comeback with a double clothesline on Kenny and Karl. Swann gets in and gets offense on all of his opponents. Kenny sits on the top and Swann jumping hurricanrana's him down onto Karl in one jump. Omega takes a flapjack/facebuster combo from Mack and Swann, then hurricanrana's Eddie.

Eddie then takes a three person back drop + neckbreaker combo. Eddie takes a blu impact over the knee but kicks out at 2. Eddie bounces Kenny off the ropes and germans him on the rebound. Everyone gets something in and Omega ends the sequence with a shot on Mack. The Good Brothers climb on Omega's back and he splashes Eddie, but Swann breaks it up with a top rope splash.

Swann and Omega go at it and Swanna gets a snap dagon suplex. Rich escapes the OWA and high kicks Kenny, then 450's him. Callis pulls out Swann on the pin attempt and as he is distracted, takes a TKO from Karl. Mack and Doc both go over the top on a clothesline and Swann handpsrings into the ropes and comes back with a cutter. Swann then phoenix splashes Karl for the win.

Totally fine match here with them not doing too much. Having two different sets of hot tags was weird though.

Overall thoughts:
It was a decent show with nothing being too bad and almost all the matches being okay enough.
