AEW Dynamite 4/7/2021

AEW Dynamite 4/7/2021

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/04/aew-dynamite-3312021.html

We see Jericho arrive in a cool car and the Inner Circle arrive in less cool cars with motorcycles riding around them.

Hangman Adam Page vs Max Caster with Anthony Bowens

Max brings up Joe Biden falling on the stairs, Lil Nas X's blood shoes and says Page is falling. Bowens gets facekicked during his usual spiel.

We start off with Max immediately getting his head banged off the buckles. Page lariats Max against the ropes then fallaway slams him and kips up. Page then suplexes him. Excalibur brings up Jack Veneno dying - Jack beat Flair for the NWA title when he wasn't supposed to.

Page does a nice face kick on Max and sentons him for 2. They go outside and Max goes into the rails before getting put back in. Page then argues with Bowens outside and is caught with a Max baseball slide going back in. Page then plancha's Max outside.

Max is put on the rail and Page lariats him off another rail. Bowens then pushes Page and distracts Page, causing him to go into the post. Bowens then gets a shot in and Max goes to work on Page. Page comes back and flapjacks Max, then exploders him.

They fought on the apron and Page drops him on his back on it. Page goes up top and Bowens distracts him, then he is superplexed off the top. Max comes off the top and takes a hard laria. Bowens throws a boombox in and Page grabs it and the ref removes it. Bowens then hands Max a chain and he nails Page with it. Page of course kicks out which is garbage. Max goes for the top rope elbow and misses. Bowens interrupts Page's buckshot lariat, and he moonsaults on him, then hits the buckshot lariat for the win.

This wasn't too bad at all and Max's best showing so far. Bowens was too involved here and the chain shot kick out was lame.

Page hands out beers and drinks one after.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and interviews Death Triangle. As it starts, Best Friends come out. OC shows clips from last year of Death Triangle beating him up. Pac assumes they want a title shot when they win the tag titles and tells them to go away. Best Friends say the boys are back in town and Kris Statlander comes out with them.

We see Mike Tyson and Urban Meyer talking the back then The Inner Circle comes out. Jericho says they have a lot to say "after the break". They continue after the break. He calls the Pinnacle "The Pinnacle". He says they apologize for some of the decisions they made and blames MJF for them. He said they wanted to suck the life out of MJF and got outsmarted and beaten to it.

Jericho talks a lot of junk on MJF and calls him "a mark". Man this promotion loves insider words. Jericho runs down The Pinnacle. He said Tully the 3rd string Horseman and said he couldn't tell FTR apart. He said he doesn't see the upside in Spears and makes fun of his mohawk. Jericho said Wardlow has to strip naked to count to 21. He said he would shove the Pinnacle's faces up each others butts and form a human centipede. He then challenges them to a blood and guts match, which is their version of Wargames. Jericho then says the worst is yet to come. I didn't like Jericho using the shoot words here and he really ran down Pinnacle hard, maybe too hard.

Christian Cage is interviewed by Dasha. Cage said Kaz pushed him too far, but he loved it. Taz then comes in and offers him to join Team Taz.

Jurassic Express vs Bear Country

They keep calling this their Godzilla vs Kong match in reference to the movie that is out now. The last Godzilla movie was garbage.

BC is wearing new dark gear and pushes the Express early. JB topes Bronson and flip dives both but is caught. Luchasaurus then flip dives BC. JB top rope hurricanrana's Boulder but is caught. Lucha tries to jump on Boulder too but he can't catch him and Lucha bounces off and looks hurt.

We go to picture in picture break with BC in control. Boulder back body drops JB as we return. Lucha gets the hot tag and germans Bronson then lariats Boulder. Lucha kicks both BC members in one kick and Lucha and Boulder fight up top. Boulder superplexes Lucha.

JB tries a weird arabian springboard ddt and Lucha reverse death valley drivers boulder. Bronson breaks it up though with a michinoku driver onto JB on Lucha's back. Boulder puts Bronson on his back and they cannonball Lucha. Broson is on Boulder's shoulders but the Express breaks that one up. Boulder is pushed over the top then Bronson is dropkicked. Lucha then standing moonsaults Bronson for the win.

This was pretty decent as they did what they should have done and didn't go too far. Not a fan of Bear Country losing though.

QT Marshall is at the Nightmare Factory with his trainees. He said he has always worked for Cody and buries Cody. He calls him "bargain brand Sting". He pimps Ogogo, Solow and Comoroto. Ogogo says he is a star and QT says this is his factory. Comoroto then throws paint over the Nightmare Factory logo. It wasn't bad but this is QT and no one wants to see him in a role like this.

Tony Schiavone does his weekly interview with Sting and looks so bad with his pierced ear. Jake Roberts interrupts immediately. Jake asks where Sting's "little gerbil friend" is. Archer then comes out and says he is sick of the higher ups in AEW. He said the world and Sting will pay attention to him. Sting takes the mic from him and Sting agrees with what he says. He said he doesn't get why Lance disappears. Sting says Lance is main event material but he needs to channel that energy into the right direction. Sting says to make it happen and go do it because he has it in him. Lance only looked an inch taller than Sting here and was shorter than Jake. Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky watched from the cheap seats.

Team Taz does a promo. Starks mockingly puts over Cage for the win on Dark this week and says he should talk. Taz says he is instigating and said they need to be smart as Christian might join them. Starks says he understands.

TNT Championship - Darby Allin with Sting vs JD Drake with Ryan Nemeth and Cezar Bononi

No entrance for JD Drake here and JD is in a singlet, which is better than his usual look. JD hits a big chop early to send out Darby. Darby comes back though with a hard tope through the ropes. He goes up top and Nemeth distracts him and then Darby dives into a JD shot which makes him bounce hard to the lfoor. Sting comes up from behind Nemeth with a bat and Nemeth runs.

Back in and JD senton's Darby's back. Sting chases Ryan all the way out of the building. We go to picture in picture break with JD keeping control. JD hits a leg lariat/single leg kick off the 2nd rope. Back from break and JD bounces Darby off the ropes outside into a club/lariat.

JD tries a cannonball into the rails on Darby, but Darby moves. Darby then flip dives him and Cezar from the top. Darby gets put in tree of woe and is pounded on then cannonballed into. JD then vader bombs him for 2. JD misses a top rope moonsault. They go up top and Darby bites Jd's finger after some hard slaps then hits a sunset bomb and a coffin drop for the win.

I didn't have a problem with this. Both guys did as they should have done and it ended at the right time. Good match.

Darby celebrates on the ramp and is jumped by the Hardy Family Office. The Bunny wants to put Darby through the table but the Dark Order and Sting make the save. Tay Conti then mounts and pounds Bunny as they fight tonight.

Jericho is interviewed in the back until Pinnacle jumps him. The Inner Circle is nowhere to be found and Jericho gets beaten up on. MJF chokes him with his scarf and FTR spike piledrives him. Marvez pops up on the tron and shows The Inner Circle locked in their door. They break through their door.

Wardlow goes to powerbomb Jericho through a table and Mike Tyson comes out. He combos Spears and The Inner Circle comes out. The question is why as Tyson and Jericho didn't get a long last time we saw them. Jericho and Tyson then shake hands and hug.

Tony interviews Rebel and Britt Baker. Britt says she should get a championship match and says that is what the people want. Baker says the rankings are BS when she is ranked #4. She said title shots should be based on star power, merchandise sales and so forth.

The Bunny with Matt Hardy, The Butcher and the Blade vs Tay Conti with Hikaru Shida, 10, Stu Grayson and Evil Uno

-1 makes an appearance and leaves with the other D-O members. They flurry each other to start. Bunny bangs Tay's head off the buckles. Bunny goes for a high kick but is capture suplexed and Excalibur name drops Akira Maeda for all 10 people who get that reference. Tay then pump kicks Bunny and outside, Bunny suplexes Tay. Bunny then dropkicks Tay into the rails.

We go to another partial picture in picture break with Bunny in control. We return from break with Tay hitting a swinging back breaker. Tay misses a pumping knee and is superkicked. Hardy interrupts Tay on the apron then Bunny is hit with a gory special into a knee for 2.

Bunny nails Shida on the outside and kendo stick shots Tay in the head. Bunny goes up top then Shida gets her stick back and Bunny is superplexed. Tay then hits a hammerlock ddt for the win. This really wasn't bad at all with no one really screwing anything up and both looking good.

We go over the Jade Cargill/Red Velvet feud. Red says when Jade beat her, she knew she could barley get the job done. She said she better be that "b!tch" that gets the job done next time.

They announce a bunch of stuff for next week.

Jon Moxley and The Young Bucks vs Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers

Matt and Kenny push each other early as Don Callis heads to the announcer's table. Nick gets shouldered down by Kenny then flying hurricanrana's him. Nick does a springboard armdrag on Karl. Doc gets sent out and the faces triple dive their opponents.

We go to picture-in-picture break and I think every match has been interrupted by this. Matt gets worked over by Karl during the break. We return and Mox gets the hot tag and clears out his opponents. Mox and Karl slap each other and Mox germans all three opponents. Doc then regains control.

Doc pounds on Mox in the corner and Mox neckbreakers him. Nick gets in and he double stomps Doc's back from the top into a roll then a backcracker on Karl in the other corner.  Nick then slingshots into a spinebuster.

Matt and Omega get in and Omega takes some hiptosses and a back body drop, then hits a ddt on Omega. Matt goes for the superkick but just can't. He checks on Kenny and Kenny slaps him. Matt then grounds and pounds him. Doc and Mox go over the top with a clothesline and Matt takes a snap dragon suplex. Mox flips Omega with a clothesline and Matt piledrives Omega.

Matt checks again on Omega for some reson and the Bucks hit a 450 and a moonsault on Omega that Karl breaks up. Nick runs up the buckles and corkscrew dives The Good Brothers. The Buck go for the double v-trigger but can't. Mox gets upset by this and The Bucks try again but can't. Mox tags himself in and argues with Nick. He hits his double underhook ddt on Kenny twice then puts Kenny in the sleeper. The Bucks then superkick him.

Eddie Kingston limps out to try and help but is jumped by The Good Brothers. He takes a magic killer on the ramp. Mox gets a magic killer and The Good Brothers put Kenny on Mox for the win.

The Good Brothers hold up Mox and the Bucks double superkick him, then they all hug to end the show. The match here was all about the angle at the end, and I guess it explained that fine. The angle didn't work out that great as The Bucks should have done this from the beginning if this was where they were going.

Overall thoughts: I thought it was maybe the best edition of Dynamite I had seen except for the Brodie Lee tribute show. They didn't go too far over the top with moves and kickouts and the things I hate about AEW just weren't here tonight. I didn't really like the angle to end the show, but I wasn't super offended by it or angry it at like I have been with some things this promotion has done. I also didn't really get why Tyson is cool with Jericho all of the sudden.
