MLW Fusion Episode #123 3/3/2021

They do a hype package for Fatu vs Jordan Oliver tonight.

MLW World Tag Team Championship - Los Parks (c) with Selena de la Renta vs CONTRA Unit (Simon Gotch and Daivari)

The Azteca Underground representative is also out there with Los Parks. Daivari and Hijo go to the mat early. Daivari targets his knee and puts on a figure four. Gotch gets chased by Park Sr. Hijo hits a neat bridge where he stretches Daivari's neck. Park Sr. and Gotch fight outside and everyone makes it out there to fight. Park Sr. is stomped by both in the ring.

Hijo missile dropkicks both Contra members from the top then the Parks dive on their opponents at the same time. Gotch and Hijo trade shots in the ring. Park Sr. gets chopped by Daivari and tells him to do it harder then Daivari kind of puts himself in an abdominal stretch. Contra throws the Parks into each other. They try it again and Hijo goes for a missile dropkcik off the top but gets nobody. LA Park Jr. tries to come out from under the ring but gets caught. Injustice comes out and trips Contra during a move then Park Sr. hits  a spear and they win it. This really wasn't that great in-ring but the finish made sense.

The Von Erich's did a promo. They were angry at Tom Lawlor for what they pulled with Low-Ki last week and said they should have their own wrestling island show with Tom Lawlor vs a hammerhead shark.

Alicia Atout interviewed Selena de la Renta. Selena said her voice was annoying. Selena said she wants the openweight championship next, saying she doesn't think Hammerstone is in the right frame of mind with his issues with Contra. She then says Richard Holliday is Atout's boy toy and kicks her out.

Parrow vs Jason Dugan

Parrow does an in-set saying he is here ot be the best heavyweight of all time. Dugan jumps him at the bell and gets lariated. Dugan gets caught on a crossbody and is fallaway slammed into the buckles. Parrow hits a big chokeslam then hits a sitout powerbomb for the win in a quick squash.

Parrow does a quick promo after. He said he is sickened by what Muertes and Renta did to Savio Vega last week and wants to fight.

Tom Lawlor did a promo. He said The Von Erich's and Low-Ki ruined his show. He said they destroyed his lower back and now the VE's must get destroyed. He said the match makers were protecting them and ACH and dared them to face Kevin Ku.

Bu Ku Dao did a promo, saying he looked up to TJP and wanted to be like him. He called him a bully and challenged him to a match.

Jordan Oliver and Myron Reed did a promo. Reed said he has his back and Oliver said he has been working for a long time for this. He says he has been getting beaten up since he was a kid. He said he knows Fatu will beat him up but he will outlast him.

Calvin Tankman vs Laredo Kid

Kid satellite headscissors Calvin down early then gets hit with a major pounce, where Kid goes flying hard. Calvin then throws him across the ring. Kid tries to forearm Calvin but it only takes a shot or two to put him down. Tankman then hits a brainbuster but only gets 2. Kid dropkicks him from the top then dives on him from the top to the outside.

Kid top rope elbows him for 2. Tankman hits a spinning back elbow/fist and powerbombs him. Kid comes back with some forearms then forearms him form the top for 2. Tankman does something like a wind-up backfist/reverse lariat to the back of the head then wins it with a sitout driver. I'm not really sure why this was booked. Tankman shouldn't lose. Kid is a lot better than some of the people they are pushing and is being pushed as a big name from AAA and also shouldn't be losing. This just didn't really flow as well as it should have and Kid is just not doing the flying he is known for so far in MLW.

Tankman does a promo after. He says he is the better man tonight and dedicates the win to his daughter and internet fans. Tankman says he has mouths to feed and wants to be champion because of what the champion makes. He then calls out Jacob Fatu and says eventually Fatu will have to face him and prove that he is what he says in a good promo. I'm down for Fatu vs Tankman.

Holliday is with Hammerstone in the men's bathroom asking which shoulder his Puerto Rican title looks better on. Atout then comes in to their surprise and wants to know why Selena thinks they are together. Holliday says she is below him. Hammerstone is annoyed by this and says they aren't afraid of Promociones Dorado. He tells her to go tell her she has a problem and they will take care of it. Holliday says she isn't worthy of breating the same dignified air as him and Hammerstone accuses Holliday of having a crush on her and smirks. Holliday denies it. This was a fun segment.

Contra's hypeman does a promo. He says Oliver doesn't belong in the deep water with them. Fatu cuts in and says he loves breaking spines and said he would slap Oliver's b!tch @ss because nobody can arrest him for it.

The Von Erichs are at the top of the PWI tag team rankings this week.

Gino Medina talked about his issues with Gringo Loco. He says he should be called Gringo Ripoff because he isn't a real luchador. He said he will expose him soon.

The announce Hammerstone vs La Park next week for the Openweight title. They also announce Mil Muertes vs Parrow for 2 weeks from now.

They do a nice little package of the previous MLW World Champs then do a tale of the tape.

MLW World Heavyweight Title - Jacob Fatu with Daivari vs Jordan Oliver with Myron Reed

Oliver dives on Fatu during his entrance. Then Fatu runs in the ring post and takes some forearms. Oliver knees Fatu in the back then tope's him but is caught in a samoan drop on the floor. They go back in and Oliver tries some forearms but gets a back elbow. Fatu poses and gets his knee clipped then pounds on Oliver more. Oliver gets his head thrown into the buckle and goes over the top.

Oliver tries an up and over in the corner and gets a superkick in the face. Oliver tries a sunset flip but Fatu doesn't go down and tries to butt drop him, but Oliver moves. Daivari distracts the ref and while he does, Reed grabs Fatu. Oliver superkicks Fatu then Reed superkicks Daivari. Oliver plancha's on Fatu but is caught and slammed on the apron.

The video gets screwed up for a second. They do a cut away from Oliver in the corner for some reason. Fatu goes for the double jump moonsault but his knee gives out. Fatu goes for it and Oliver pops up top to give him a top rope release german. Oliver then gets popped up into a stunner then does a springboard stunner off the 2nd rope. Oliver hits some high kicks to the head and is samoan dropped. Fatu then moonsaults him off the top and wins it.

This was a good big vs small man match. Oliver got a decent bit in through believable ways and it felt like he could maybe pull it off.

Daivari and Contra then came down. Both Reed and Oliver got beat up on and were put in body bags. Calvin Tankman then came in and beat up Contra and the Death Squad members. Then Tankman and Fatu went at it and Tankman pounced Fatu. Tankman was a little slow coming in and he got stuck because there were a bunch of Contra guys in there and they  couldn't give him enough space to clean house. Still a nice little angle for Tankman though.

Overall thoughts: Maybe not the greatest episode ever but they got 4 matches in and built up a couple of other things with some segments and promos and overall it was a pretty good show. The main also ended up delivering when I wasn't sure if it would.
