Impact Wrestling 3/23/2021
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/03/impact-wrestling-3162021.html
Kenny Omega and Don Callis arrive to start.
Deonna Purrazzo with Susan vs Jazz with Jordynne Grace
Basic stuff to start and Jazz drops Deonna with a big punch. Susan bothers Jazz and gets hit then Deonna pump kicks Jazz. Deonna keeps control and spears the post on accident. They trade shots and Jazz gets some momentum with a back kick to the head. jazz hits a facebuster but Susan puts Deonna's foot on the ropes.
Grace goes after Susan on the outside but goes into the post. Susan gets involved again and hits Jazz with a shoe leading to the Deonna win. Susan wasn't good here and this was a pretty basic match.
The Good Brothers are talking to people in the back then Eddie Edwards comes in. Eddie said they wouldn't use the same changing room as everyone else a few weeks ago, but now will after they lost their tag titles. Eddie said they aren't welcome here and asks them to leave. Doc agrees and said they will go hang with Don and Kenny.
The Decay laugh at them for losing their titles and for losing popularity in the back.
We get a Swinger's Palace commercial. He said he inherited cash and decided to open his own casino. A couple of people talk about how much they like it there and they invite us to try our luck at Swinger's Palace.
Rohit Raju is admiring himself in the back. He almost trips over the laying Fallah Bahh, who made a tent for himself backstage. Bahh said he hit a rough patch and Raju says he is a bum gambler who lost all his money. Raju tells him to get it together and get out of his face. Bahh says he might be hitting a rough patch but he can put his fist down Raju's throat and will do so later.
X-Division Title - Ace Austin with Madman Fulton vs TJP
This is a rematch from the PPV. TJP does a nice cartwheel out of a wristlock early. TJP kips up with Ace's help then does a nice headstand headscissors on him. TJP then headstands out of a headscissors.
TJP headsprings over Ace on the ground and dropkicks him. Ace comes back with his double springboard kick. Ace goes out while trying to catch TJP and TJP dives on him. TJP tries to throw Ace in but he rebounds to kick him in the head, cartwheels on the apron off a trip attempt and kicks him. Ace goes up top and TJP tries to catch him but instead TJP takes a top rope gordbuster.
We go to break and return with Ace in control. TJP comes back and facewashes Ace but then he takes a spin kick. Ace then hits his helicopter legdrop from the top for 2. TJP release backdrops Ace and puts him in the octopus stretch. He grounds him with it but Fulton literally drags Ace to the ropes to break it. TJP dropkicks Fulton then puts the octopus stretch on Ace in the ropes.
TJP goes up top and Fulton disrupts him, then Ace puts his knees up for a TJP splash. They double clothesline each other and go down. Ace charges and takes a go to sleep head kick. TJP then frogsplashes him but Fulton interferes and TJP wins by DQ. Fulton chokeslams TJP. Josh Alexander then comes out to help TJP.
This was a fun little cruiserweight match that was nonstop for the first half. Both guys looked pretty good here. The finish wasn't clean which stunk but they wanted to keep this going I guess and had to do it.
Matt Cardona was interviewed by Gia Miller. Matt says he loves it here and this is a great place to wrestle. He was asked about what is going on with him and Brian Myers. Matt said he didn't mean to follow him here, it was just a coincidence. He said he isn't here to fight Brian but said he keeps running his mouth and challenged him to solve this dispute in the ring.
Trey Miguel was flipping out in the back and threw Team XXXL's gear. Tommy Dreamer then came in to break it up and tried to set up a match. He said they need a have an exploding barbed wire ring match and Acey said "that worked out so well last time" and laughed. Tommy admitted it was a joke to Trey after. Trey said he doesn't care about Hardcore Justice and just wants to break Acey Romero's neck. Tommy said don't let Acey get in your head. I feel like I missed something here as Trey was feuding with Sami, not Acey.
Fallah Bahh vs Rohit Raju
Bahh combos Raju and belly to belly suplexes him. Raju takes control and Bahh hulks up, then Raju headkicks him. Bahh does weird kind of twisting slam. Raju double stomps Bahh from the top for 2. Bahh charges at him and gets a big knee and Bahh misses a butt drop to get pinned. Raju grabbed his tights on the roll-up. It felt a little rushed and Bahh's weight really limits his movement.
Kennya Omega and Don Callis are interviewed in the back. They say they are going to the ring and will talk out there.
Tony Schiavone, Tony Khan, Kenny Omega and Don Callis talk about Dynamite.
The Good Brothers go to Omega's locker room. No one answers. Doc thinks Omega and Callis might be mad at them for losing the tag titles.
Kenny Omega and Don Callis talk in the ring. Don says Kenny can fire anyone he wants here. Don says he will have the Impact title soon in his new home. Callis says Swann can never get the One Winged Angel he took out of his head and said Kenny wants more gold by winning the TNA/Impact titles. Callis said he will suck every drop of blood out of this company to help Kenny and said all it will take for Omega to win is a One Winged Angel. Then they show a montage of Omega hitting One Winged Angel's. The promo keeps going on and they say they will make history at the PPV. This went way too long, it was all over the place and Kenny was acting very goofy here.
Eric Young does a promo at some kind of old prison. He said remorse is weakness and they show Rhyno in a trance in a cell. EY said he baptized Rhyno to officially enter the stable and they said the world belongs to them. The scenery was pretty cool here and even if I didn't completely get what they were talking about, it worked.
Havok and Nevaeh were interviewed. Havok said they'd like to go after the tag titles. Steelz and Hogan then walked in. They said they can step up to the plate and challenge them if they think they got what it takes, but it won't be for the titles. They have to earn that. Kaleb and Tenille Dashwood then walked in. Kaleb asked when the last time was that they won a match by themselves. Dashwood said Neveah hasn't found the right partner yet and offered to team with her. Tenille tried to take a photo with them but Havok pushed her out of the way.
Trey Miguel vs Acey Romero with Larry Dallas
Trey had some silly over the top angry poses. Trey charges at Acey and gets a uranage. Trey hits a tope on the outside on him and takes a side slam when they go back in. We go to break and return. Acey rolls at his legs to knock him down.
Trey jumps off the 2nd buckle and neckbreakers Acey. Trey enzugiri's him for 2 while he was on the mat. Trey goes to springboard off the 2nd rope and Acey pounces him off the other set of ropes in the air in a cool spot. Trey bounces off the bottom rope for a cutter then hits a top rope meteora for the win. The visuals of Trey getting offense in on Acey here were a little silly and I don't really get why they job out Acey so bad here.
Larry and Acey beat up Trey after. Sami Callihan teleports in the ring and hits Acey with a baseball bat. Larry holds Sami and Bey ends up superkicking Larry. Who he meant to hit, I don't know. Sami then teleports out. Do I even need to comment on the teleporting? It ruined what was a maybe interesting segment.
Rich Swann gets interviewed in the back. He said the talk and One Winged Angel video from Kenny didn't get to him. He said he has fouth adversity all his life and said mind games won't throw him off. Rich says he has to look out for the One Winged Angel and has come up with some tricks to get around it. He said Omega only beat him when others were involved and 1v1, he thinks he can win.
Chris Sabin and James Storm were interviewed. Apparently, Storm has had 999 matches exactly in Impact and they wanted to know if he has any special plans for Match 1,000. Storm says he will drink beer. He talks about Violent by Design. He said he has done everything here and said him vs Eric Young should be the main event next week. Scott D'Amore walks in. He said Sabin and Storm are pillars here and makes it official.
We run down the card for next week.
Eddie Edwards vs Karl Anderson with Doc Gallows
Eddie hits his atomic drop and overhead belly to belly combo early. Eddie then dives out on Karl and Doc as we go to break. We return. Eddie in on top and gets distracted by Doc, then lands hard on the ring's edge. The ref grabs a chair from under the ring and tells Doc he has to sit there if he wants to stay. Eddie gets rammed into the post.
Eddie gets thrown hard into the buckles and Karl takes control. Eddie comes back and throws Karl on a gordbuster. Eddie hits a backpack stunner for 2. They collide off the ropes and Eddie hits a high blue thunder bomb for 2.
They trade forearms. Eddie headbutts him in the shoulder then Karl hits a flying kick to him for 2. Eddie hits a nice spinning forearm and nails Doc, who got on the apron. Why the ref didn't immediately kick out Doc, I don't know. Eddie gets pushed into the ropes and takes a chair from Gallows and Karl wins it.
I've never been a big Karl Anderson fan and I didn't think this match was anything too special. The dirty finish didn't help either but the Good Brothers are out of things to do until FinnJuice returns, so at least this gives them something.
FinnJuice appear on the tron. They talk about getting some wins lately. Juice said he knows they hate carrying their own bags, so they helped them by taking the extra weight of the tag titles out of their bags. They said they would have a couple of drinks for them and have a good time in Japan.
Overall thoughts: I thought Kenny Omega's segment was the weak point of the show. I liked Ace vs TJP here but I didn't think it was a great show overall.
