AEW Women's Championship Eliminator Tournament Show 2 2/22/2021

AEW Women's Championship Eliminator Tournament Show 2 2/22/2021

I'll be doing selected matches here.

Anna Jay is out with an injury and will be replaced by Madi Wrenkowski.

Yuka Sakazaki vs Emi Sakura

Emi is wearing a robe and a crown while her students pose around with microphone stands in a dumb entrance. Don't get me wrong, I watch a lot of joshi but Emi's Gato Pro is too low bar for me.

Taz said Yuka's constant smiling reminded him of himself in a funny line. Emi hits some mongolian chops and throws her by the hair. Yuka sits on the top rope and flip dives Emi on the floor. Yuka then does something like an apron 619. Yuak stands on the apron and Emi crossbodies her, knocking her down. Emi's students attack Yuka on the outside. Emi wraps her leg around Yuka's throat while she is tied up in the ropes. Emi does a rolling surfboard on Yuka and stomps her at 5 minutes.

Yuka does a diving back elbow and a northern lights bomb to Emi then does a calf-crusher type of leglock. Yuka runs the top rope and dropkicks Emi. Emi puts her in the dragon sleeper and starts singing Queen's "we will rock you" song. Yuka does a top rope la silla onto Emi,hurricanrana's her and reverse sto's her. Yuka goes up to the middle rope and is caught then put into a backbreaker. Emi then does a twisting vader bomb for 2 at 10 minutes. Yuka spins Emi on her shoulder then facebusters her but Emi comes right back with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.

Yuka does some forearms and a spinning forearm, then she rolling snapmares Emi and hits a face kick. Emi comes back with a clothesline then spin drops her from her shoulder. Emi goes for an angel's wings but Yuka gets out and wins it with a sliding forearm then a pin. Yuka then gets beaten up by Emi and her crew after, but Hikaru Shida breaks it up. Then Emi and Shida stare down.

This was okay but I don't like Emi's gimmick at all as it makes her look like some low rent goof. It's a shame too because Emi was really respectable at one point in time.

Aja Kong vs Ryo Mizunami

Taz doesn't seem to be aware that Tommy Ran, the ref, is a woman. Ryo drops Kong early and machine gun chops her in the corner. Ryo tries to warm up the crowd...who isn't there then does her dumb rope pulling taunt. Ryo hits a legdrop and counters Kong's kick with a kneebar. Ryo continues work on the knee. She charges at Aja and basically throws herself out of the ring. Aja slaps her on the outside and bangs her head off of a small table.

Aja goes for the trash can and takes it away, then Aja backdrops Ryo twice. Ryo powers up and dragon screw leg whips Aja. Ryo lariats her nad legdrops her over the back of the head, then does a head and arm triangle. They get back up and Ryo hits some lariats. Aja comes back with lariats of her own. Ryo spears her then does a top rope legdrop for 2. Ryo picks her up and takes a uraken.

They go outside and Aja throws the trash can at Shida, then runs Ryo's head into it. Ryo isn't much bothered by it though as she pops right up. Aja is going into the ring and Ryo legdrops her head on the apron off the 2nd rope and wins by countout. This wasn't a bad match but that finish was garbage and ruined it.

Britt Baker vs Madi Wrenkowski

Madi gets jumped during her entrance on the ramp. Britt swinging neckbreakers her on the ramp and throws her into things on the outside. Rebel gets in Madi's way and gets nailed by Madi, but Britt saves her.

They get in and Britt hits a sling blade. Britt went for a suplex and Madi hooked her leg and took a weird fall down. They did the spot twice more and Madi ended up hitting a messy facebuster. Madi gets reverse sto'd into the middle turnbuckle then goes up top for a crossbody but gets nothing. Britt hits a schwein for 2. Britt superkicks her in the face then lockjaws her for the win. This was mostly a squash and Madi was sloppy. Britt curbstomps her after and Rebel draws Thunder Rosa's design on her face.

Overall thoughts: The two Japanese matches here had some good parts to them but also some bad and the last match was just a squash.
