WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/29/1992

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-2221992.html

Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/06/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-371992.html

We are in Amarillo, TX. Mr. Perfect and Vince McMahon are our hosts. Perfect says Jake Roberts will be on The Funeral Parlor. He asks if Jake will be able to keep his cool, will be treated warmly or be given an icy stare?

El Matador vs Brian Elmore

They said Tito will fight Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania VIII. Tito hammerlocks Brian. Shawn Michaels and Sherri do an inset promo. Shawn says millions of people will see him do a Mexican hat dance around the head of Tito. He says we will find out what Sherri knows - Shawn is the sexiest man alive.

Tito shoulders Brian over. He leapfrogs and slams him. Tito side headlocks him. Brian hits shots to the gut then takes knees to the gut. Tito back body drops him. Tito hits a shot to the gut then forearms him in the back of the head to win.

Thoughts: It was short and not much of note here with Tito winning with forearm to the back of the head finisher.

WWF Update

Mean Gene Okerlund says The LOD were supposed to defend their tag titles in a match with The Natural Disasters. Jimmy Hart told Jack Tunney one of LOD got injured in a match with The Disasters and says The LOD should fight Ted Dibiase and IRS instead. Gene says The Disasters supported this as they wanted to take on The LOD when they were at 100%. Gene says we now have new WWF Tag champs as Ted and IRS won the match. Gene says Hart took dirty money from Dibiase to do this to get the belts off The LOD.

Gene says the whole thing was a set-up and says The Disasters said they didn't know anything about this. Gene says Jack Tunney can't change the ref's decision. He says IRS and Dibiase will have to defend their titles against The Natural Disasters at Wrestlemania VIII.

Ted Dibiase, IRS and Jimmy Hart do a promo. IRS asks who Tunney thinks he is saying when they have to defend their titles and against who. They say The Disasters are cheaters and rule breakers who know all the flaws of The Disasters. We then cut away before Hart finishes talking.

Thoughts: This is the second title change so far this year that has happened off TV. According to results, Ted and IRS (Money Inc.) beat The Legion of Doom for the tag titles on 2/7/1992 in Denver. The whole situation is pretty weird as The LOD were still brought out as champs after they lost the titles. The Big Boss Man was also subbing for Hawk and Animal was doing some singles matches. Some have said Hawk failed a drug test to lead to this. The WWF also got raided by the DEA at a live show on 2/14/1992 that makes me wonder if that played any role in that one. Aside that, it's yet another weird title change. It's not clear why this wasn't done on TV and the circumstances are clearly being used to turn The Natural Disasters face. This title change also ended up happening before Money Inc even had a match on TV together. All three of the WWF's titles have changed hands recently in unusual fashion and creative does not seem to have things under control right now.

The Repo Man vs Don Richter

Don is lariated as soon as the bell rings. Don then takes a backdrop. Virgil does an inset promo. He says he can be just as sneaky as Repo as you have to be sneaky in the neighborhood to survive. Virgil says he will sneak around back at Repo.

Don's head is banged off the buckled and he is hit in the gut and the head. Repo stomps and pounds on him. Repo chokes Don on the ropes then submits him with his leglock.

Thoughts: It was a quick one with Don getting nothing in before being put down.

Repo drags Don around the ring with his rope after.

The New Foundation (Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart) vs Todd Overbow and Kris Germany

Jim side headlocks Todd then shoulders him over twice. Todd is spinebustered then takes a 2nd rope elbow drop from Owen. Owen standing dropkicks Todd.

Kris gets in and is hiptossed then armdragged. Owen knee drops Kris then waterwheel drops him. Kris knees Owen in the gut. Owen flips over him using the top rope then back body drops him. Kris takes a double shoulderblock.

Kris is slammed then Jim rocket launches Owen off the top onto him. Owen picks up the win.

Thoughts: It was a shorter squash. The jobbers didn't get anything in. Owen almost slipped off his top rope moonsault.

WWF Event Center

Sean hypes up the 2/29/92 Boston Garden show. Mr. Perfect, Sid Justice and Ric Flair do a promo. Perfect says they are the perfect team. Ric says he has the biggest and the baddest man in the WWF on his side. He says they have the power, the finesse, the brains and says there is no place for Piper to run and hide. Sid says they will find out why he's the man who rules the world.

Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper do a promo. Piper says Tunney might as well retire and sleep. Piper says they aren't dummies as they have been around for 10 years. I couldn't make out the rest of what Piper said here.

Papa Shango vs Larry Williams

Papa knees Larry in the gut and clubs his back. Larry's head is banged off the buckles. Papa hits a corner splash. Papa slams him then hits an elbow drop. Papa stomps Larry then hits a bad flying shot. Papa shoulderbreakers Larry and pins him.

Thoughts:
It was the usual Papa squash. His shoulderbreaker looks nice but his flying move still doesn't.

Papa shakes his chain at Larry while he's down after.

WWF Event Center

Sean hypes up the 2/29/92 Boston Garden show. The Natural Disasters do a promo. Quake says Jimmy Hart said he would guide them to the top but he's not with them anymore. Quake says it won't change their plan in the WWF. He says Sgt. Slaughter and Jim Duggan are entering the disaster area. Typhoon says it won't be Mr. Nice Guy and they want to make the ring a disaster area.

Jim Duggan and Sgt. Slaughter do a promo. Jim says they are 2 proud Americans and says The Disasters are in for a long evening. Sarge says not to worry about Jimmy Hart not being there, worry about them as they will beat The Disasters.

We see some clips from past Mania's.

Wrestlemania VIII Report

Gene talks the WM8 double main event. Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect do a promo. Perfect says Macho is going after the big one. He says they know something about Macho. Flair says Macho is going to the big show and says they have a surprise for him. He says the surprise will take the world by storm and unfocus Macho.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage does a promo. He says he doesn't like surprises or Flair. He says Flair's ego is better than his. He says he plans on beating the man to be the man and become champ again. He says he's coming after Flair.

Gene says he will be surprised if Flair has a surprise.

Sid Justice does a promo. Sid says there's a hero in all sports but the hero has to take a fall. Sid says even in the jungles in Africa, the great lion gets too old and the young lion goes for the kill.

Sid says he's the man that will end Hulkamania and says he's the man that rules the world.

Hulk Hogan does a promo. He says he's seen the look in Sid's eyes before. He says he's seen that look in the Manson's and Dahmer's of the world. He says Hulkamania is the only way we can stop this madman. He says the four demandments will take your eyes, breath and soul. He asks what Sid will do when he casts his sentence on him.

Gene runs down the rest of the WM8 card.

Texas Tornado vs Kato

Kato does a top wristlock and is thrown back. Kerry poses. Kato hits some shots then takes more in return. Kerry punches him in the gut then discus punches him for the quick win.

Thoughts: It was a quick squash with Kerry doing nothing but punches.

The Funeral Parlor

Paul Bearer welcomes us. He says we all have histories and some are better left alone. He says his guest's history is known worldwide. He then brings out Jake Roberts.

Paul wants to talk about Jake's history with Macho Man and runs down their feud. Paul talks about Jake trying to chair Macho and Liz last week. Jake says he's not here to be judged by Paul and needs to know which side Taker is on. Paul tells Jake to ask Taker himself. Jake then comes out through a casket behind Jake.

Jake says him and Taker have a real problem. Jake asks who Taker think he is and asks who's side is he on? Taker grabs his urn and says, "not yours". Jake then grabs the urn. He asks if this is what makes Taker tick. He drops it in the casket. He says he owes Taker one and says not to turn his back on him. Jake then slams the casket down on Taker's hand and locks it. Jake then ddt's Paul Bearer as Taker's hand is stuck in the casket. Jake then chairs Taker from behind and drops him.

Taker gets back up as Jake grabs the mic. Jake then chairs Taker again and hits shots to the gut. Jake goes to talk again and Taker starts dragging the casket with him. Jake hits Taker in the gut with the chair and says Taker must be some kind of freak. Jake hits more chairshots but Taker keeps walking with the casket. Jake hits Taker in the knee with the chair. Taker gets back up and Jake pounds on him more. Taker rolls his eyes back and officials come out. Jake then heads to the back.

Thoughts: This was an interesting angle that put Taker over as a force while keeping his supernatural character up. With Macho set to fight Flair at Mania, it seems like Jake and Taker will feud next.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Sgt. Slaughter vs Dusty Wolfe and Rudy Gonzales

Jim pounds on Dale then slams him. Dale takes a double back body drop. Sarge back body drops Rudy then Rudy is whipped into a Duggan lariat and pinned.

Thoughts: It was another quick squash with nothing of note in it.

WWF Event Center

Sean hypes up the 2/29/92 Boston Garden show. The Repo Man does a promo. He says he admires The Big Boss Man. He says he doesn't lie or cheat or steal like him. Repo says people think he enjoys repossessing cars and homes and he says he loves it. He says he will repossess Boss.

El Matador does a promo. He says a no time limit match suits him fine with Ted Dibiase. Tito says there's no way out for Ted. He says he's trained to go the distance with Ted and will make him for the all the insults.

Next week's show has more on Taker/Jake, Shawn Michaels, Money Inc, Tatanka, a special interview with Ric Flair and Sid Justice.

Overall thoughts: As often is the case with these shows, there was nothing of note wrestling wise. It was all quick one-sided squashes. We did get a cool angle with Jake turning on Taker and we found out Money Inc are the new tag champs. The Taker/Jake angle might be worth a look but nothing else here was.
